CFMX Memory Consumption
This is kind of a general question regarding CFMX and how it utilizes memory. I know in CF 5 CF will consume the amount of memory it needs and then hold onto it and reallocate it back and forth. 2 CFMX UPgrade Questions
Hi, I am going to upgrade some of our CF 5 machines and we have a few questions we thought the CF gurus on this list may be able to answer. 1. Can we upgrade from CF 5 to CFMX for J2EE and if so will this save our settings and migrae them like a straight CFMX upgrade would? 2. I heard the built in JDBC drivers do not rely on the tsnames.ora file, is this the case and will we need manually enter our SID name? Re: query question
Thanks for the responses. I know which query it is so fixing it is in the works, one of my colleagues is also looking into it. I still don't think it makes sense that the query going to a database on a different server woud cause CF to spike, I'd think it would cause the database server's cpu to spike. But if anyone has any other feedback as to why this would hapen and if it is expected behavior we'd appreciate the input. query question
Hi All, It appears a certain query of mine is causing our CPU to spike. We're working on the query but what is strange is that it will hose CF. It was my uderstanding that CF passes the connection off so I would think it would be normal for the database server's CPU to spike but not for CF to cause the webserver CPU to spike. If we kill the query it immediately goes back down. Does this sound right? I have not seen this happen before and am questioning if my logic is off. I'm not sure about leaks as in, CF continually soaking up RAM that it's not using. I've never noticed this happening on a 4.5 server. RE: CFMX Server Crash #4 for the day..
It might help if you posted your configuration, if I were you and were experiencing this I'd probably call support though. Just my $.02 Rob -Original Message- From: Brook Davies [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, November 27, 2002 5:45 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: CFMX Server Crash #4 for the day.. Well, our CFMX server just crashed for the 4th time today. I've had the perfmon open all day and have been watching the traffic. We had an average of 12 connections when the running requests started to grow and grow. As I mentioned in my previous post, there were 3 running requests that had not finished for hours. As far as the number of CFMX request, as I was watching it, it never went above 6. This really means there was a max of 3 running requests (on top of the 3 that were already dead), it would go up to 6 and then back down to 3. Those 3 threads weren't going anywhere. Then I noticed that the running requests was growing incrementally, so I tried to make an HTTP request to the serverand it did not respond. I checked the running requests, and there was one more. The server was DEAD, HUNG, FINISHED - KAPUT. The Perfmon counter restarted jrun when the running requests reached 10, and the server came back to life. Thank you Lee Fuller for this temporary fix. What is Macromedia doing about this? CFMX is not ready for production. If your sales of CFMX are not what you expected, there's a fairly obvious reason why. I certainly, based on my experience, would not recommend (and I think anyone running CFMX would agree) anyone to switch to CFMX anytime soon. Unless you have plenty of spare time to baby sit your server. RE: Locking
Thanks for the advice, Isaac. One other question, can you see any reason why it would be bad to set all my application variables in application.cfm and then use an if test to prevents further cfsets? What do you think of this technique or are there better ones? My colleague and I are having this debate currently. Rob It depends how much data is in your application scope and how much of it will be relevant on any given page... I'm inclined to think that you won't want to shot-gun it quite that much, although you may not have to go too much further... Instead of duplicating the entire application scope, try and figure out what information will be specific to a given request in the application.cfm, for instance, if this is an app which requires a login and user session information is stored in the application scope, you might copy just the user session structure for the current user and not the whole array or structure containing all logged in users. For the remaining variables, you might loop through the application structure and copy only those which are simple values, i.e. cflock scope=application timeout=30 type=readonly cfset request.user = application.user[urltoken] cfloop item = x collection=application cfif issimplevalue(application[x]) cfset request[x] = application[x] /cfif /cfloop /cflock I've had good luck with a similar application architecture on CF5. CF Server Troubleshooting
Hi, My boss has asked me to make a document for troubleshooting ColdFusion, including a checklist, for my department in case any of the more experienced developers are not around. Aside from the typical troubleshooting Best Practices he also wants a checklist for troubleshooting a server down issue on Unix and NT. Does anyone know if such checklists already exists? I'd also appreciate any tips/tricks/links to any other troubleshooting guides. Thanks, Rob __ Get the mailserver that powers this list at http://www.coolfusion.com FAQ: http://www.thenetprofits.co.uk/coldfusion/faq Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/cf-talk@houseoffusion.com/ Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/index.cfm?sidebar=lists
