Custom Tags crashing CF

2005-10-06 Thread Scott Wolf
I'm having a very bizarre problem that I can't seem to find a solution
to. I'm running ColdFusion Server 4.5 on Windows 2000 (I know this is
old and out of date, but it's a dedicated box for a client who refuses
to upgrade) and for some reason whenever a page is loaded that contains
a custom tag, it hangs up the server and never loads the page. Has
anyone had any experience with something like this? Here's what I've
got:

Web Server

Windows 2000 Server
ColdFusion 4.5

DB Server
--
Windows Server 2003
Microsoft SQL Server 2000

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

RE: Custom Tags crashing CF

2005-10-06 Thread Scott Wolf
With any custom tag. I have one that pulls banner ads from a database
and displays them. I also have one strips additional whitespace from
the page that CF itself missed. The custom tag files themselves are in
the same folder as the document that's calling them, so it's not hunting
for the .cfm files. I've tried the page with all of the calls to custom
tags commented and it works just fine. It doesn't matter which one I
uncomment, it still crashes CF.

With ANY custom tag, or just with one specifically?
In the later case, it might be an infinite loop problem. Is the tag
calling itself recursively?
What is the tag supposed to do?

Windows registry issue

2005-08-29 Thread Scott Wolf
It appears that one of my machines has been set for the last couple of
years to keep client variables in the registry and now the registry is
217 MB. I've tried to delete the variables but I keep getting an error
message that there is not enough space to create a registry log.
Because of this problem, I also cannot create new user accounts on the
machine due to insufficient system resources errors. Does anyone have
any suggestions as to what can be done in order to solve this? Any help
would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If possible, create a datasource in an SQL server and switch to that.
That would at least get you up and running until you can clean the
registry.

Scott,
It's a little fuzzy now, but we had a problem with CFDocument initially
after upgrading to 7. We resolved it by removing the other JVM(s) that
were installed before the install of 7, then specifically installing the
version CF 7 required (if it wasn't done already). Has worked
flawlessly since. I would suggest looking at the JVM issue first.

CFGRID problem

2005-04-29 Thread Scott Wolf
I'm using MX 7 and using CFGRID for the first time. I'm running a
simple query that returns one column from my database. The code I'm
using is:

CFQUERY NAME=gridTest DATASOURCE=imghost

SELECT numUserID
FROM tblUserInfo

/CFQUERY

CFFORM ACTION=gridTestProc.cfm

CFGRID NAME=userID QUERY=gridTest

CFGRIDCOLUMN NAME=numUserID HEADER=User ID

/CFGRID

/CFFORM

When I try to load the page, I see in my debugging info that 34 records
have been returned by the query, but I'm getting an applet load error
for the grid. When I open the java console, I see:

Caused by: java.io.IOException: open HTTP connection failed.

If anyone could help me determine the cause of this, I would be very
grateful. The only thing I could find on a Google search was a link to
LiveDocs for CF 5.0 which isn't helping all that much. Thanks!

Reply-to problem: CFMX and Imail

2005-04-06 Thread Scott Wolf
I have a mass mail application written in CF that I'm having small
problem with. When a client sends a mass mail they specify their own
e-mail address as the sender (ie: [EMAIL PROTECTED]), which gets puts into
the FROM field of the e-mails. The application then puts another
address (ie: [EMAIL PROTECTED]) in the reply-to address. The goal of this
was to have any bouncebacks for bad e-mail addresses go to the
[EMAIL PROTECTED] box, then have a scheduled task that checks the box and
removes the bad addresses from the database. Unfortunately, this
doesn't workat all. No matter what I do, I can't seem to find a way
to get bouncebacks to go to the reply-to address. Does anyone have a
suggestion on how I could have mail appear to come from one e-mail
address and have the bouncebacks go to another? Any help would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks!

CFMX ODBC/JDBC Drivers

2005-01-24 Thread Scott Wolf
I was looking through the archives for solutions to a couple of database
problems that we're having on one of our development servers. One solution
that I want to try is rolling back the ODBC/JDBC drivers that come with MX 6.1

unfortunately I can't seem to find a source for the appropriate files and a

can use the length property to determine the # of fields.

Subject: SOT: JavaScript question

I'm working on a project that is going to have several different each
pages with a form on each page. A lot of the form interaction and
validation is going to be happening client side with JavaScript (not my
call, they wouldn't listen). I want to start making a few standard
functions that I can drop into each page. What I really need to get
started though is a function that can count up the number of inputs in
the form. It needs to be something that will run during the BODY tag's
onLoad event. I have no idea how to get JavaScript to count up the
number of form fields. If anyone could help, I would be exceedingly
grateful. Thanks!

Random Item Selection

2002-11-28 Thread Scott Wolf
In my database, I have a single table that stores all of the individual items for sale
on my website. I have 20 or so different item categories and 6 different individual
items for each category. What I would like to do is find a way to have my frontpage
randomly select an item from each category to display on the front page. I was
wondering if anyone knows of a way to do that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 Thanks!

Re: Image creation

2002-11-24 Thread Scott Wolf
Yes, I'm well aware of the CF-ness of this list. It's why I subscribed. :P

I'm referring to PHP's functionality because I know it can be done in that
language, otherwise I wouldn't bring it up. There is a standard PHP library
that allows a script to create images on the fly. You can either create a
completely new image and display it in a browser, or you can make changes to
an existing image. I know that this functionality doesn't exist normally in
CF. A more appropriate question would be whether or not anyone knows of a
component or anything that can ADD that functionality to CF 5.0. Any help
would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

RE: Correctly using CFOUTPUT

2001-05-29 Thread Scott Wolf

I personally have a tendency to use Listing 1's format more often than I use
the one in Listing 2. The only difference is that I put in my table tags
BEFORE my CFOUTPUT tags, that way if I'm looping through a query's results,
I don't have a new table being created for each record. :)

Hi, I've always been curious about this. What is the correct way? Does it
matter?

Listing 1:

CFOUTPUT
TABLE
TR
TD#var1#/TD
/TR
TR
TD#var2#/TD
/TR
/TABLE
/CFOUTPUT

Listing 2:

TABLE
TR
TDCFOUTPUT#var1#/CFOUTPUT/TD
/TR
TR
TDCFOUTPUT#var2#/CFOUTPUT/TD
/TR
/TABLE

Is there an unwritten rule; if there are more than 4 (or ?) vars in a page
Listing 1 is a good way to do it else Listing 2 is recommended? I'm assuming
when using CFOUTPUT QUERY=q1/CFOUTPUT Listing 1 would always be
applicable.

Thanks for any help!

RE: time in CF

2000-11-27 Thread Scott Wolf

Well, the function to return the current date and time is: Now().

You can use the DateFormat and TimeFormat to have it display
the way you want.

Example

Code: DateFormat(Now())
Output: 27-Nov-00

Code: DateFormat(Now(), "d/m/")
Output: 11/27/2000

Code: TimeFormat(Now())
Output: 03:29 PM

Code: TimeFormat(Now(), "h:mm:ss t")
Output: 3:29:57 P

Hope that helps. If you check your CF Documentation for
DateFormat and TimeFormat, you'll get a list of all of
the available masks for formatting your output.

Hi all, I'm struggling with a form and query problem. There are four
form fields to be inserted into a table. All
seem to pass just fine, except one. I can't figure out why. I've
checked how I've spelled it in both templates
and the database, even to the point of retyping it to be sure.

This is the form field that won't seem to pass:
FORM ACTION="process_newchild.cfm" METHOD="POST"

INPUT TYPE="text" Name"Parent_ID" SIZE="5" MAXLENGTH="5"
Mother's ID number

This is the query that I'm using
CFQUERY DATASOURCE="LLL"
INSERT INTO Children (Parent_ID , FirstName, LastName, Birthday_DueDate)
VALUES ('#form.Parent_ID#' , '#form.FirstName#', '#form.LastName#',
'#form.Birthday_DueDate#')
/cfquery

This is the error that I get
Error resolving parameter FORM.PARENT_ID

The specified form field cannot be found. This problem is very likely
due to the fact that you
have misspelled the form field name.

The error occurred while evaluating the expression:

 #form.Parent_ID#

The error occurred while processing an element with a general
identifier of
 (#form.Parent_ID#), occupying document position (7:10) to (7:25).

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Where do I start...?

Dave, you have good success with Dave? We find it brings its own issues
to
our list of network problems. (I have not toyed with the new version)
It
does fix lots of issues.

What we found that worked really well, better than expected, is windows
2000
mac services. MUCH better... not perfect, but much better.

Check out http://www.macwindows.com/NTunsolv.html for answers to some of
your mac - windows problems.

Sorry for the OT subject, but i have run into major, and
freq lockups after loading Mac Services on a NT box.

Any tips for running mac services on a NT box?

I never had much luck with Mac Services. Instead, we switched to a
product
called, oddly enough, DAVE. It's a Mac SMB client, so you don't need any
special stuff on your NT servers.

Deleting Session Variables

2000-11-19 Thread Scott Wolf

I know this question was asked just a couple of days ago, but
I lost all of my old e-mail when I formatted my HD. How can
I remove a session variable completely? I know I can change
the value using CFSET (i.e. CFSET Session.LoggedIn = "1")
but I don't know how to remove it altogether. Please let me
know if you can. Thanks!

RE: Deleting Session Variables

Will arraydelete kill all of the session vars for just that one session?
I'm trying to write a logoff page that completely ends a session, and
I just want to make sure that I can scrap all the vars without affecting
any other user's session.

Session variables are stored in an array. You can kill the array
(arraydelete()) but that will kill all the vars and Allaire does not
recommend that. You can probably do some nifty functions by converting the
array to a list, and finding out the position of the var you want to delete
and then doing a arraydeleteat() for that var.. not sure.. guessing here.

Rob,
Seems to me that if you do it this way, your not only
expiring the session var's for the intended user, but also
for everybody else using that "application" at that time.

Just expire the session in Application.cfm:

 cfif isdefined("logout")
 cfapplication
 name="myapp"
 sessionmanagement="yes"
 sessiontimeout=#createtimespan(0,0,0,0)#
 cfelse
 cfapplication
 name="myapp"
 sessionmanagement="yes"
 sessiontimeout=#createtimespan(0,2,0,0)#
 /cfif

Pass the parameter "logout" to any page and the
 session will die. You could
also set cookie.cfid and cookie.cftoken to 0 and
 expire them too.

Anybody else with any thoughts on the matter?

OT: SQL 7.0 Question

2000-11-17 Thread Scott Wolf

I know this is a very newbie-like question, but I'm
stuck all the same. I had SQL Server 7.0 installed on
my machine, and I had to nuke my HD and re-install
every last weekend. I burned my Data directory to
a CD before I formatted. Now, I've re-installed
SQL, but I need to know how to get those files from
the CD to be recognized by the server. If anyone can
help me, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

The cost of the exam (at least when I checked yesterday)

RE: Best Practices

2000-11-10 Thread Scott Wolf

I am looking for the bast practices on the following questions:

1) Is it best to have 1 large database with many tables or vise versa.

Vice versa? Having 1 large table with many databases? :P

2) Is it best to set queries in the application.cfm or in the page it
=
self, knowing this is a reoccurring query.

In one application that I'm doing, I have one query that needs to be
performed on EVERY page. I put that one in the application.cfm file.
If there are queries that run very often but not on every page, I
usually
just put them in where they are needed. I don't know for sure if that's
the "best" practice, it's just how I usually do it. More than likely
I'll
get told that I'm wrong though when people read this. :P

No. It's safe to assume that every user is assigned (and subsequently
returns) a unique CFID and CFTOKEN combination.

In fact, if you use session variables, ColdFusion makes exactly that
assumption and uses the CFID/CFTOKEN pair sent by the browser to marry
up
browser requests with session variables previously set on the server.

What is the BEST way to generate random passwords to populate an
existing field in a db. I tried using the RandRange(1, 1) function
to do this but wound up generating the same random number for every
record instead of a different random number for every record.

The passwords generated do not nec. have to be a number, it could be
alphanumeric.
