RE: ergonomics
Here's some general office setup ergonomics information that I copied off of our ergonomics department intranet site. Chair Seatpan height should be set at a height that positions the upper legs parallel with the floor while both feet are flat on the floor or on a footrest. Both feet should be firmly on the floor or footrest to provide a solid base for the seated body. If a footrest is used, it should be approximately the same size as the seatpan. It should have a non-slip surface and stand firmly on the floor. If the feet are not solidly positioned, the body will compensate with the muscles of the lower back and may cause stress. Sit all the way to the back of the seatpan to get the maximum back support. With the back against the vertical seat cushion, there should be at least an inch of clearance between the front of the seatpan cushion and the back of the knees. This will prevent cutting off of the blood supply to the lower legs. The width of the seatpan should accommodate the width of the individual without undue pressure from the armrests. The seatback cushion should be adjusted to a height that fits the natural curve of the lower back. When a person sits, the natural curve of the backbone straightens, causing stress to the disks in the back. The seatback encourages the natural curve of the back and reduces stress. The lumbar support should be centered 9 to 10 inches above the lowest point on the seat. The angle between the seatpan and seatback should be 100 to 120 degrees. Armrests should be set to just below the elbow height. The arms should not rest on the armrests while using the keyboard but can rest when pausing. Armrests should be adjustable for both height and width. Keyboard and Mouse Sit in the chair with the shoulders relaxed, and the arms to the side of the body. Forearms should be positioned parallel with the floor with the wrists in a neutral or straight posture. Fingertips should then just touch the second row of keys. Rear of the keyboard should be slightly lower than the front for a negative angle. This promotes a neutral or straight wrist position that minimizes stress. Small feet under the rear of the keyboard should not be used as they can cause the wrists to be positioned awkwardly causing stress. Wrist rest in front of the keyboard should be used to encourage the wrists to be positioned in a neutral posture. The wrists should not be placed on the wrist rest while keying in data, but can be rested during pauses. Mouse should be at the same height and either on the left or right side of the keyboard depending on the handedness of the individual. If the keyboard is on an adjustable height tray, the mouse should be located on the end of the tray or on a small platform at the end of the tray. If the available space is limited and the number pad is used infrequently, a small raised platform can be positioned over that end of the keyboard for the mouse. This will eliminate the extended reaches to the desktop with the mouse and avoid stress to the back. Monitor Monitor should be directly in front of the body with the eye-to-screen distance between 16 to 28 inches. Top of the screen should be at or slightly below eye level. The focus point of the eyes determines the distance from the eyes to the screen. Keeping the eyes within close focus range will reduce the requirement for the eyes to refocus when looking between a document and the screen. Constant refocusing causes eyes to tire. Normal blink rate for the eyes is 22 times each minute. When you concentrate on the computer screen, your blink rate drops to 7 times per minute causing the eyes to become dry and irritated. You should consciously blink your eyes to keep the eyeball wet and reduce dryness. Top of the screen should be tilted from 5 degrees forward to 15 degrees backward to help eliminate screen reflections. Tilting the top of the monitor slightly forward from the vertical will usually direct glare from overhead lighting down rather than into your eyes. Phone The telephone should be positioned on the right or left side of the work surface depending on the hand that is used to answer the phone. If the left hand normally picks up the phone while the right hand writes, the phone should be on the left side, and vice versa. Recommended maximum reach distance from the seated position should be no more than 16 inches. As you reach across your body, the outward reach distance drops dramatically to 6 inches. If the reach for the phone is across the body, it is an indicator that the phone may be on the wrong side as it causes twisting of the back. Phone should not be held between the shoulder and neck. This causes extreme stress to the neck and upper back. If the telephone use is less than 20 percent of the workday, holding the phone in the hand while talking is acceptable. If phone use is greater than 20 percent, a headset
ChartFX and CFMX?
Does anyone have any experience with ChartFX and CFMX? I was wondering if there were any COM compatibility issues with this product that anyone has encountered. We've currently got a copy on our CF4.5 server, and want to move to CFMX. Re: CFMX Updater 3 Released
Christian, You are also forgetting those who can't download it to our workstations because we work in corporate environments with locked-down workstations (I can't imagine that I'm the only one in that situation). I can't install the latest version of anything without rights. If I did update Flash, then my machine wouldn't really be helpful for developing/testing our intranet apps, because then its not the version that my clients are running. There really should be an alternative way to get the download. I run ColdFusion on several machines that I can't even physically get to, much less open a browser with the Flash plugin. My approach has been to download the updater to my workstation, then copy the updater to my servers. Anyone else having problems downloading? I get to 99% (27.9 of 28.5MB) and then it hangs. It's happened three times now. Any suggestions? I'm using the link provided in an earlier email, since I cannot upgrade to the latest version of flash to get the download. http://65.57.83.12/go/cfmx_updater_win_svr_u3 Erica Lomax Corporate Engineering Division Abbott Laboratories ~| Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/index.cfm?forumid=4 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/index.cfm?method=subscribeforumid=4 FAQ: http://www.thenetprofits.co.uk/coldfusion/faq Get the mailserver that powers this list at http://www.coolfusion.com Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.4

OT - DTS and Oracle
I'm using DTS to copy data from a SQL Server database to an Oracle database. That works fine. I am them attempting to run an Oracle Stored Procedure to update my data. I can execute the stored procedure from SQLPLUS and can call it from a cfm page (CFMX) with no errors. I execute the sp from DTS, using the execute SQL task with the command execute spName. When I run the DTS package, I always get an ORA-009000 invalid SQL Statement error. I've tried setting up the connection in DTS as MS ODBC for Oracle, MS OLE for Oracle and Oracle for OLE, and all result in the same error message. At this point, the sp is just a simple update SQL statement. Anyone have any ideas? I'm lost on this one. Updater 2 and Oracle ?
I saw a quick mention in a post about known issues with updater 2 and Oracle. I can't seem to find any information on this. Does anyone have details? Or, does anyone know if updater 1 is still available? I need to get the dateDiff fix, but I can't have it cause problems with Oracle. That query can be seen when the debugging is on on the webpage. is there a way to capture that final query? i tried #cgi.QueryName# , but did not work. Any ideas? thanks list __ Do you Yahoo!? Re: Possible insight into JDBC probs in CFMX
I've also seen this problem, in relation to stored procedures. We found that in development (hopefully the only location in which you will be getting errors of this type) ensuring that the Trusted Cache is unchecked. Additionally for some database errors, we need to uncheck the Maintain Database Connections in the datasource connection set up eliminated all need to stop/start the service. I still am not sure of the cause, but it works for us. Nelson Winters To: CF-Talk [EMAIL PROTECTED] nwinters@mindscc: pring.com Subject: Possible insight into JDBC probs in CFMX 10/08/2002 03:05 PM Please respond to cf-talk I've seen a lot of posting regarding JDBC instability in CFMX. The issue I've run across (using CFMX with SQL Server) is where a query passes a blank where a number is expected. I get the following error: For example, if #Field2# is an empty string then cfquery sp_UpdTable '#Field1#', #Field2#, '#Field3#' /cfquery becomes cfquery sp_UpdTable 'Test1', , 'Test3' /cfquery and ColdFusion throws the following error: Error Occurred While Processing Request Error Executing Database Query. [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Syntax error at token , , line 0 offset 31. Once this occurs, all queries will throw this error until coldfusion is restarted. I've tested this on several servers with identical results on each. The only solution I've found so far is to simply make sure that this doesn't happen. This can be a difficult error to debug since you don't necessarily know which template actually caused the error in the first place, and that's the only error that matters... all errors after the first probably had nothing wrong with them. I usually look in the application.log file to see where a string of error began popping up. Hope this is useful to someone. -Nelson ~| Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/index.cfm?forumid=4 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/index.cfm?sidebar=listsbody=lists/cf_talk FAQ: http://www.thenetprofits.co.uk/coldfusion/faq Signup for the Fusion Authority news alert and keep up with the latest news in ColdFusion and related topics. http://www.fusionauthority.com/signup.cfm
Cached Stored Procedure Errors?
In working with our MX development server (Win2K w/.NET framework), I've noticed a problem with cached errors with stored procedures (oracle db). Here's what I've determined so far: 1. If I run a .cfm page that calls a sp, and an error is returned (usually due to some programming error, like sending wrong datatypes) that error seems to get cached. I can go in and correct the coldfusion page and/or the sp, re-run the page but error continues. 2. If I create a new sp (new name) with the corrected code and call it from my corrected cfm page, everything works fine. 3. If I drop the original sp, and call it from the cfm page, I receive the standard does not exist error. If I then create an sp with the original name and corrected code, and then run it from the cfm page, the original error message is returned. 4. The only other solution I've discovered for clearing the error is stopping/restarting the CF service. However, the only server access I have is to the CF admin and the directory for my site files, so this is far from a convenient solution. Anyone else run into this? Is there a setting in CF administrator that might be causing this? Any suggestion on how stop this from happening (or at least clear the error without having to restart the service)? Thanks! MX Install Error
Has anyone seen the following error when trying to install MX? Error 1314. The specified path \ is unavailable. We're getting the error when trying to install to IIS on a Win2K server. When we go to pick the path for the files to be installed to, it is set to \ and when we click change, the error message pops up and kills the installation. Thought I'd try here before calling tech support.
