Re: CF10 setting comparable to CF9 maximum JRun threads?
Thanks. I figured since JRun is gone the maximum threads setting would have been replaced by something in Tomcat to which we also do not have access. Do not believe this is a setting any longer. There are only options to set the template, flash, web service and CFC requests. Believe the defaults are 20,5,5,10 respectively. ~| Order the Adobe Coldfusion Anthology now! http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Coldfusion-Anthology/dp/1430272155/?tag=houseoffusion Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/message.cfm/messageid:360093 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/unsubscribe.cfm
CF10 setting comparable to CF9 maximum JRun threads?
We do not have access to our CF10 CFAdmin. CFAdmin in CF9 has a 'Maximum number of running JRun threads' setting which is supposed to be set at least to the total of the Template, Flash, Web Service and CFC requests. Since CF10 no longer uses JRun does CF10 have a similar setting, and if it does, what is it and where is it? Thanks! Ok, I finally got to Krishna Reddy's blog post that announced Updater 14 and I'm wading through the 147 comments. (had to go through coldfusionBloggers.org) Any input and thoughts still appreciated. Thanks! George When CF10 Updater 14 was released in October a lot of folks seemed to have issues during the installation or after installing it. We're ready to give it a go now but I'm not having much luck trying to find out if things have settled down since then. Even the Adobe ColdFusion Blog page that announced Updater 14 and that had many comments from folks who were having issues with it seems to not be available so I cannot check there. Adobe ColdFusion Blog futzed?
Is it just me or is the Adobe ColdFusion Blog (http://blogs.coldfusion.com/) messed up? I go to the home page and there are only two entries, one for Jan 1, 2015, and another for December 18, 2014. Nothing else, not even links to go anywhere else. Simultaneous threads and maintain database connections
Is there a relationship between CF simultaneous requests and maintained database connections? Does a maintained database connection use one of the threads allocated for simultaneous requests? For example, suppose in Request Tuning I have simultaneous (Template) requests set to 10 and in CF data source settings I have Maintain Connections checked with Timeout set to 20 (minutes). A request completes. The database connection now is inactive and remains so for at least 20 minutes. CF maintains the connection to the database for 20 minutes. Does the maintained database connection also continue to hold on to the thread that was being used by the request that completed for the same 20 minutes? Or do the request thread and the database connection operate independently of each other? Thanks! Re: Very disappointed in Viviotech
Ok so now I'm ok with Viviotech again. They're a fine company and sensitive to customers hot buttons. The support guy I spoke to said something that really pressed a button and in my usual hot-blooded fashion I went incandescent.I really should learn to take a deep breath once in a while. Anyway the result is when I called Viviotech back again after I'd cooled off a bit ( and i sincerely regret I didnt wait to send the above post to CF-TALK ) the same guy had had a think about our previous conversation and took a different tack.We got me set up for managed support and in the mean time he had researched the answer to my problem, and we went on from there. Also, Jordan Michaels the co-owner of Viviotech wanted to talk to me too.I thought he was going to give me a lecture about patience (he'd have been justified ) but no, he was ready to listen and understood my issue entirely. My issue is now resolved, and my anger has gone away. And I'm impressed that no one at Viviotech made any attempt to wiggle their way away from me and onto something else (the standard tactic when you call plenty of other companies) - they stuck with the problem until it was resolved. So i'm having a bit of a roller coaster of a day. Began high in positive energy, went downhill when I coudln't get my first account up and going, then back up again when they dealt with me so well. I'm sure some of you already know I can be a difficult bugger to deal with if you press the wrong buttons, and Viviotech handled it all well. Can we use cfthread to speed up multi-query report processes?
Hello! We have processes that assemble reports from as many as 6 individual queries. Currently the queries run sequentially so the related report cannot be assembled and displayed until after all queries have completed. Users often have to wait several minutes for their report. They are not happy about that. We are considering trying cfthread to run queries concurrently and then assemble and display the related report after the longest running query completes. Is this a viable use for cfthread or is it meant to be used for unrelated processes? Is anyone using cfthread as described above? Have you seen noticeable improvement in performance? Is the cost in complexity of the code worth the improvement in performance? We're using CF9\10 Enterprise on Unix and Windows. Thanks! I'm checking with our server admins to see if they have already updated the DataDirect drivers. Also have you tried Oracle's thin client? You can download it off http://www.oracle.com/ This will be specific to 11g. Right. We're saving that solution. Our standard is to use the DataDirect drivers. We'll go down the updated DataDirect drivers path first before we try Oracle's thin client drivers. The character set is applied at the database level. Not sure if your DBAs want to change it for you, but that is also worth a shot. Yes. We are already exploring this one. The DBAs have agreed to change the character set setting so we'll see what that does. It just seems strange to me that with ColdFusion using UTF-8 and Oracle using UTF-8 we get these non-standard characters popping up so we're going to change the setting in Oracle to US7ASCII to see if that fixes the problem . . .
