Re: MS SQL Mirroring and CF

2007-11-06 Thread mac jordan

How do you get your CF server to look for the database on the mirrored
server? Obviously the two servers cannot have the same IP or name since they
 are on the same network.

Give them a subdomain name, then you don't have to do anything, just
update the DNS. That's what we do - the SQL server is at, e.g.
dbase.domain.com. Then, as we had to a couple of weeks ago, we just
update the DNS to point somewhere else, and off it goes, completely
transparent.

we've spent a lot (understatement) of time and effort rolling our own CMS,
which allows the client to add their own menu items, pages, galleries,
mailing lists, etc. It runs from a core set of files, but each site has its
own database and CSS, for a start. And we can add additional functionality
to each site by means of a master database etc. This means we can set up a
site within a couple of days, depending on the design, and the basic site
structure is all scripted, so a simple batch file on the server does pretty
much all of it.

it's paid for itself over and over, in terms of quick response, and fast
support, and I'm really glad we did it. It doesn't fit all clients, but it
makes a good jumping off point for most of them.

we're in the process of migrating 100 odd sites from CF5 to CF7, both on
Linux. The first, and busiest site has been running live since the
beginning of January, and is behaving flawlessly - much better than it was
on CF5, but the box is much better spec'd ( twin operon, 4Gb RAM).

ColdFusion 5 - setting server wide default locale

2005-04-18 Thread mac jordan
hi there

after an extremely stressful week, in which our main webserver blew up its
hard drive [scream], we are in the process of reinstalling everything. And
nowhere can we see how to set the server wide locale to UK, and I can't find
anything on google.

can anyone help? Much obliged :)

I moved a Photoshop licence - and an Acrobat one - from PC to Mac with
a £12 handling fee. No problem at all.
