Re: Anyone know of any good CF tests?
Why not put one together yourself? With Forta's new book on certification right around the corner and all the other books available you should be able to come up with some really good (feel the candidate out) questions, and what if scenario's. Just a thought since it is also something that could be updated at your convenience, also what about the game that Michael Smith wrote for coldfusion, !!! Later "John Doe" [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote in message news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... RE: Anyone know of any good CF tests?
On a previous contract I used this one to slaughter a couple of candidates :-) http://halhelms.com/cfquiz.cfm The best thing to do is not to hand them the test and walk away, but sit through the questions with the person. You get a feel for how quickly they answer questions and also a feel for them in general. It covers the basics, and also goes into a bit of SQL. I actually had somebody tell me after the test that he could see he wasn't going to get the job after taking the test. Its not complicated stuff, but very broad. I am looking to put together a pre-employment test to check the knowledge level of a job candidate who claims to be an expert cf developer. Does anyone know of any available tests (not online, what I'm looking for is some type of written test) for this purpose? I would like to be able to bring the candidate in and have them take the test under controlled circumstances - i.e. I don't want them to be able to do it from home, consult w/friends, look things up...I want to make sure I am getting what is being sold, if you see what I mean. Re: [Anyone know of any good CF tests?]
brainbennch but keep in mind these tests are a joke. they are only good to get past HR or hiring mangers. Re: Anyone know of any good CF tests?
I don't know of any written ones, but perhaps if you contact Brainbench you can use theirs in a printed fashion? They offer certifications one of which is CF 4.5 so that in a written form might do the trick. Another site to look at is http://www.cfcertification.com/ I've never been through it but I know they have some samples and what not. Another option you might consider is a Technical Interview, I've been through a few of them and as long as the interviewer know his stuff he'll be able to talk to the candidate and see what he/she knows, in a much less threatening way than a closed room test. Unfortunately both methods are not overly effective. I personally am a terrible test taker, it's just not in me, I also refuse to take knowledge tests like techcheck and what not, they merely gage an individuals ability to 1. take tests, and 2. retain information. I also hold dear, a quote I once heard from I believe Einstein, "I don't keep things in my head, that can be readily found in a book" Whenever I'm developing I am always within arms reach of my CF and SQL books. I'm sure there are those out there that have memorized every SQL and CF function available, I have no problems looking them up :-) That probably doesn't help much but hopefully there is a take away from it somewhere inside. Re: Anyone know of any good CF tests?
ack .. I would like to recall that last e-mail. Maybe I should have read the entire post before responding. I guess you could take the brainbech test yourself and write down all of the questions and give it to him on paper though ;) Todd Ashworth -- Web Application Developer Network Administrator - Original Message - From: "John Doe" [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: "CF-Talk" [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, February 20, 2001 12:58 PM Subject: Anyone know of any good CF tests? | I am looking to put together a pre-employment test to check the knowledge | level of a job candidate who claims to be an expert cf developer. RE: Anyone know of any good CF tests?
There is of course, the Allaire Certification... Brainbuzz.com has a CF SKillDrill... I have a test my brother wrote for hiring developers... Seems like it would be easy enough to make... given the quantity of materials available from online tests, college courses, and Allaire Certification prep books. The main problem you main have is determining what is truly an expert... I would classify myself as very knowledgeable, but wouldn't think of doing a job without some type of reference book available.
