Should be easy enough to work around - write a batch script that downs your
network interface, starts DW and up's the interface again.
Or if DW uses an odd subnet to broadcast on like one or two other apps out
there, just firewall or route that off to a bit bucket.

Sorry, I was wrong, it is the second copy of DW that gets message about not
being able to run due to serial already in use.

I think this automatically close maybe related to install MX studio? We
have the same issue here. We have a PC that only gets used as a scanning
station, that shares a MX studio number with our "html layout" guy. When we
open DW on the scanning station, you hear a gone come from the other side of
the office, as his DW shuts down.

Wow. glad it worked. I can't believe they would move to a model like that.
Yikes. I'll have to check with my old coworkers see if they are having
problems.

Being domain based would explain why I am trouble free. My laptop is not on
the work domain.

OK, I changed the serial number on the new guy's installation by updating
the registry, and I think that fixed the problem. If it occurs again, I'll
post back here to inform people.

What was happening before is when I would open up DWMX, I could start
working for about 45 seconds, and then I'd get a pop-up saying that someone
else on the network existed with the same serial number for Dreamweaver MX.
It then kicked me out immediately on clicking OK. I've never seen this
before, but it's the first time two serial #'s have existed on the network.
I'm wondering if it could be due to the fact that we both have file locking
enabled on our site, and we're using the same network directory to store our
"Local Site" (working directory). Perhaps it's noticing it there that two
machines have the same serial #.

This is by design. It is a licensing issue. When you buy Dreamweaver MX, or
Studio MX it is licensed for one station only.

No, we're running Dreamweaver MX 6.1 on Windows 2000 SP3. We're both on the
same Windows network domain, accessing our "Local Site" on the same network

It's a new protection scheme that only causes issue if two people are using
the same serial at the same time.

If your laptop wasn't connected to the network, it wouldn't present a
problem.

Ah. good point.

On a mac or rather networked macs DW behaves like that? That would suck for
places with lazy desktop support teams (ie my last employer) who just
remotely push an app across and keep the unique serials locked away.

You might be able to just edit the registry key directly:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Macromedia\Dreamweaver\6\Registration

RE: Change Serial # in Dreamweaver MX

2003-06-03 Thread John Wilker
I just checked on my two installs. you can see the red number. Didn't change
mine since I just have one on me :)

Still not sure why one would close. Mine don't do that. Both are on the
network.

I'm interested to see if this solves the problem.

I'm pretty sure that you can change the serial number in the registry...

Go To HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Macromedia\Dreamweaver\6\Registration

and edit the Serial Number key. Should work.

Cheers,

Jeff

Subject: OT: Change Serial # in Dreamweaver MX

I have a new employee I'm working with in our group, and the guys who setup
his workstation mistakenly entered my Dreamweaver MX serial # on his machine
when installing it (we have a separate valid serial # for him, but it wasn't
used). Now, when I open up DWMX, if he has it open, it will automatically
close on me.

Is there a way to change the serial # of a Dreamweaver MX installation? I
searched MM's site but couldn't find a way to do this. I'm hoping to avoid
a complete reinstallation. I'd think that a method for doing so would be
provided if it's going to check for other serial #'s on the network and shut
you down if it finds duplicates.

Thanks.

RE: Change Serial # in Dreamweaver MX

2003-06-03 Thread John Wilker
I don't know of any way to change the serial short of re-installing. It
shouldnn't matter though. I've never seen DW close like that. My office used
to use the same serial across the board. As long as you own valid serials
the one in the app shouldn't matter.

I could be mistaken but I use DWMX and others in my company did too. Unless
the Desktop guys were using different serials which I am fairly certain they
are not.

As a test I just booted my lap top and ran DW. My desktop has the same
serial, no problems.
