Look, just because Mr. Adkins doesn't play well with others, there's no
reason to resort to name-calling.

As I said - we don't see virus on Unix. There are lots of security
problems on all systems. A worm is different from a virus - and all
platforms can be hit by worms. I've even read of a variety of
attempts to write virus apps for Unix, so it's likely that someone could
attempt to write a virus to hit Unix. It's going to have a lot less
impact because few people configure and run their Unix boxes where permissions
on executables can be written to by any user or read and execute applications
and macros attached to unknown disks or emails while logged onto their
system as root...

Well, I didn't know about it before I saw it in this list, at which time I
promptly hosed ALL attachments on the mail server, hehe. Some of us are too
busy ColdFusioning and reading this list to realize there's life beyond CF

Oh yeah? You just wait until the government breaks up Microsoft, and they
start writing apps for Unix! Your virus-free days are numbered.

Opps, my bad. I made a typo. What I meant to say, is IMHO Randy Adkins,
the guy who flames some one who posted a virus alert to cf-talk, is a moron.

Is that better? Did I spell it right?

I apologize to the community for wasting people time with this, but just
pisses me off that this guy Randy thinks that he has the right to tell
cftalk users not to post things like virus alerts to the list. That's just
plain stupid. Am I way out of line here??

Would you mind learning how to trim your responses to posts here on cf_talk so
we don't have to go through 60+ lines of needlessly quoted material?

You contradict yourself about using ct_talk to report "about a wide spread
virus".
If it is wide spread, then people already know about it. There are much better
sources of info about virii that any competent person is already aware of.

Adding to the noise level of ct_talk can only diminish the value of the list.

It's a matter of courtesy and does reflect on a person's professional
competence.

2000-05-19 Thread Randy Adkins

Well actually if you can read correctly, I do not recall using a ?
in my statements to form a question.

So nothing was asked.

Just another person that assumes.

Well we all know what they say about ASSUMPTIONS.

Seems as if people forgets that this is a Cold Fusion mailing list.

At the rate this list is going, next topics would be:

How to make Thanksgiving Dinner.
What to buy for Christmas.
Who cares about what someone is doing this weekend.

My two cents ... take it or leave... does not matter to me

OT: New Virus [loveBug copy] *.*

2000-05-19 Thread Paul Ihrig

Just a heads Up!
Seems to be a love bug copy cat.
Except instead of *.JPG it goes for *.*

*   Payload : Overwrites
files
*   Payload trigger : .VBS
email attachment is executed
*   Large scale e-mailing :
Sends itself to all addresses in Microsoft Outlook Address Book
*   Modifies files :
Overwrites every file on the system that is not currently in use including
mapped local drives. Files in the root directory of any drive will not be
affected.
*   Degrades performance :
Could clog email servers
*   Causes system instability
: Overwrites critical system
files
Target of infection : Overwrites
all files that are not currently in use regardless of extension.

Good Luck too all.
