Newsletter Software

2005-05-04 Thread Emmet McGovern
Does anyone have experience in bulk email solutions? It would need HTML and
campaign tracking capability. The solution doesn't have to be free or
cheap, it just has to work.

A client of ours sends a 100,000+ newsletter out monthly and would like to
discontinue outsourcing it.

Web based would be preferred, especially if it was in cf.

I was looking for a newsletter app as well with similar requirements.

I came across NetDispatch..

Has anyone used it? If so, how'd it work for you? Any others you'd recommend?

Thanks,

Note that you can now download it for free off of cfopen.org.

It has a bug whereby you will need to re-upload rw/security.cfm after
installing (I plan on fixing it eventually).

If you try it and run into any other problem, let me know.

Newsletter software

2002-09-19 Thread Tormod Guldvog

Hi folks -

I need to create an mailing app which sends out approximately 1,000
brief news express newsletters every night for my science website. I
would like to send the e-mails in bulks of, say, 200 per 30 minutes or
so to reduce the load on the mail servers (site is on a shared server
and this was recommended by the ISP to avoid problems). Eventually the
potential is more than 1,000 subscribers so I need to create a scalable
solution.

I need to send both HTML and text versions, and I need basic merging
functionality (user's name and e-mail, some metadata) - this I can
handle myself. But how do I create a batch of 200 e-mails, then wait,
then create another 200?

I am wondering if perhaps CFMAIL is not the solution here, due to it's
many bugs (I've tried it before with not quite satisfactory results).
And for the record - I'm on CF5, CFMX is not an option right now.

I looked at ActiveMail from cfdev. The source version is $1500 (I get a
full license of Lyris listmanager for 10,000 subscribers for that
price). But the encrypted version is $500, which fits my budget better -
has anyone had any experience with this tag for uses like this, ie
newsletters? Does it solve the issues with CFMAIL?

If anyone knows of existing applications which do these things and which
will run on CF5, please show me where to go...

The budget is vanishingly small as this is a non-profit website but I
cannot compromise on quality on the end product (the newsletter), so I
don't mind if I have to spend time adapting stuff. But I hope there is
someone on this list who can help me get started.

With kind regards,
Tormod Guldvog

Re: Newsletter software

2002-09-19 Thread Tormod Guldvog

Thanks for your tip, Gordon. My site is on a shared hosting environment,
though, and it seems iMS SE needs to be installed as a system service,
which my ISP is not likely to accept.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I need a solution which will run on a shared environment - and with a
minimum of CFX tags, as I have to pay $10/month for each of them just to
have them installed.

RE: Newsletter software

2002-09-19 Thread Robert Everland

I have used cfmail many many times with no issues. I have used it to send
over 100,000 emails at one time and it didn't blink. There are a few options
you have to pause the server after so many emails, there is cfx_sleep in the
tag gallery or there is a udf on cflib that uses the java library to pause
the server. I would stick with cfmail if I were you, it fits your needs.
