I guess I am old school but I have car payments, a mortgage, etc. etc. All of this open source/freeware stuff leaves me a little mystified. I suppose that it is possible to make some money around the edges of these technologies, but, I have this vision of an army of geeks working on these open source projects while they live in the garage of their parents house ... Many, if not most, of the successful established open source projects have large corporate, governmental, or educational backers that pay the contributors to these projects (aka, their employees) very well.
