RE: .NET co-Exist with CF Server
Do you envision being it a $600 plug-in for VS .Net? -Original Message- From: Gregory Harris [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Just as a thought to throw out there, with so many other languages porting over to .net, anyone see a ColdFusion.net in the future? Granted it's not an open language and would take an initiative by Macromedia (vs. languages such as Perl, Cobol, Python, etc. that are a bit more open). Quite frankly tho, it might be nice to be able to develop and debug ColdFusion and the CFX tags in a common environment. Re: .NET co-Exist with CF Server
I've installed the SDK and VS.net on my personal machines, which run Win2k server/ CF5/ SQL 2000 and had no problems. I can't think of a reason why dotNet would conflict with CF in any way. VS.net does change some IIS settings, but VS wont be on a production server anyway so that shouldn't be an issue. I'd be more worried about the performance problems that MDAC 2.7 had when it was first released. I'm not sure if that has been fixed yet or not... jon Jason Miller wrote: I am wondering if anyone else has installed the new .NET architecture (which will be part of the Whistler server aka Windows server .NET or 2002). I am curious if there have been any issue with this coexisting with a implementation of CF Server 5.0 . There is also an MDAC 2.7 out which must be installed with the .NET stuff so any comments as to havin g used the MDAC 2.7 would be helpful too. Thanks. __ Why Share? RE: .NET co-Exist with CF Server
Jason, The only thing I can say is regarding MDAC 2.7. Take a link below: http://www.8wire.com/articles/?AID=2318 MDAC 2.7 has a pretty serious bug in its ADO libraries that apparently tends to chunk up many of your CPU cycles. As a co-manager of a development production environment, we are staying put on the latest MDAC 2.6 manifest. Until there is a release to fix these libraries, I would recommend staying away from the .NET server in a production environment. Cheers, --Paul Paul W. Jason, I looked around a bit myself. I could not find anything regarding a fix for this. If you run across anything, please post it to this discussion. Thank you, --Paul Paul W. RE: .NET co-Exist with CF Server
I am wondering if anyone else has installed the new .NET architecture (which will be part of the Whistler server aka Windows server .NET or 2002). I am curious if there have been any issue with this coexisting with a implementation of CF Server 5.0. There is also an MDAC 2.7 out which must be installed with the .NET stuff so any comments as to having used the MDAC 2.7 would be helpful too. I'm running both on my laptop without any problems. As others have mentioned, there are some potential issues with ADO caused by installing MDAC 2.7, but these don't seem to affect CF any (although, admittedly, my laptop doesn't support much traffic).
