RE: CFM-RESOURCES

2003-01-06 Thread Mark Stephenson - Evolution Internet
Hey,

IS there anyone out there that uses CFM-Resources.com for their hosting?

If so has anyone had any problems with their replacement secure tags?

I am using SoEditor and the SoImgKernal file is causing me no end of
grief!!!

Actually, the Ensim issue IS documented. :-)
http://www.macromedia.com/v1/Handlers/index.cfm?ID=23524Method=Full (#6 in
the list at the bottom of the article)

As it mentions in the description, it's actually a general Apache issue, but
it was the Ensim version that made the bug most visible. The 1.3.x connector
that is available for download in the technote does contain the fix for this
bug. The 2.0.x version should hopefully be added to the article within the
next week or so. I'll be sure to get the technote updated to reflect this
information.

No, unfortunately--

Just letting you know what the techs told us; we couldn't get CFMX to
work with Ensim for some reason or another. They said that the two
don't seem to get along and we ended up snagging a box with Webmin on
it.

I prefer Ensim for it's ease-of-use, but...

Apparently, there are more than a few undocumented things when it
comes to CFMX and Linux.

Sorry.

We just switched to Webmin and I thought that some incompatibilities

RE: CFM-RESOURCES

2003-01-06 Thread Robert Bailey
I used them for a while, then left. Was not very happy with them at all.

I had some problems with their CF_CFM_FILE tag (Replaces the CFFILE tag,
I think that was the name of it). They had an error and had to fix it,
was not recognizing my login and password that I passed. Guess a DB
issue, but besides that I had no problems at all. Never used the
execute.

Re: cfm-resources?

2001-05-14 Thread Jennifer Knoblock

They went down over the weekend to install a wireless t1 connection for the
freebie sites.

From an email I got last week from cfm-resources.com...
We'd like to let you know that we have just ordered a Wireless T1
connection strictly for the free sites, therefore we will be turning
them off for two days. Starting May 11th, 2001 until May 13th, 2001. This
is a necessary action, to provide better service and much more
reliability.

A dedicated T1 connection will be in place only for the free server,
therefore giving our free customers faster access and more uptime! We
do however appologize for the downtime, but it is necessary for the
system to be installed on that machine. After May 13th, 2001 you will no
longer experience downtime. All paying sites (Bronze and higher, will remain
up with no changes to the sites, whatsoever).

HTH!
Jennifer

 Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone else was having problems with free accounts at
cfm-resources.com? First my password stopped working, and when I got no
response to repeated emails, I gave up and signed up for another account.
(Incidently, after a number of errors were thrown in the registration
scripts, I ended up with three accounts but that's a different story.)

Attempts to FTP in are successful after on average three or four timeouts.
Everytime I do actually manage to connect, it timeouts before I can upload
any files. The site itself takes ages to load and then I get server errors.
The cfm-resources control panel is not even up.

Now, before you tell me that you get what you pay for, I totally agree. I'm
developing a site for a non-profit organisation with next to zero funding,
which promotes science and technology career paths for high school students,
girls in particular. The aim is to create a site that they can update and
maintain themselves, thereby requiring no more funding for web work. My plan
being, if I can get the site running on the free hosting service, and they
see how great and easy it is and maybe interest some benefactors, I will get
them to move to one of the low cost hosting services. Hell, I was even
planning to pay for some of it myself. I'm not expecting great reliability
or speed out of a free service. But at the moment *I* can't even view the
site, and it's been like that all week.

What I would like to know is, what is the reliability like on their paid
accounts? I'd be reluctant to risk them after my experiences with the free
service. What are the other low cost hosting services out there like?

Sorry to bitch but this is driving me insane!

 Kay.

2001-05-13 Thread Jeanne Sarfaty Glazer

Check out www.cybersmarts.net
They offer very inexpensive CF/ASP/Perl hosting (10 domains for $49.95)
They host 5 domains for me (I only pay $25/mo) and I've been very happy with
their customer service.

The only bummer is that they only offer Access databases but it works just
fine for me since all I host there are personal sites

Not all emails take that long. Some emails yes, but most of them are
simply.

My FTP isn't working (because the user didn't wait the 24 hour period it
takes to create FTP, so I simply copy/paste the following:

FTP's can take up to 24 hours to become active, please wait 24 hours. If you
signed up more than 24 hours ago, please let me know!

And by that time it's already made, so they never write back. So that's how
I get to so many.

3000 emails at approximately 24 seconds each (typing only - not problem
resolution) would take about 20 hours. Add to that the 1000 help desk
tickets (assuming you just respond to them by e-mail) plus the four hours
of
live support, and you are working at least 30.6 hours out of every 24 hour
day - not to mention food and bathroom breaks. You sure know how to
squeeze
every ounce of productivity from each moment!

The aim is to create a site that they can update and

being, if I can get the site running on the free hosting service, and they
see how great and easy it is and maybe interest some benefactors, I will get

What I would like to know is, what is the reliability like on their paid

Sorry to bitch but this is driving me insane!

RE: cfm-resources?

2001-05-11 Thread Raymond B.

You might want to move to a language such as PHP, Perl, (ick) ASP, etc.
Using CF, which is really meant to be an enterprise product and costs min.
$1.2k USD, might not be the solution. I realise it's often much more rapid
development and has a quicker learning curve overall, but PHP and Perl are
free, ASP is in the sense it can be hosted w/ chillisoft bypassing having to
pay for the OS... Server such as this have lower operating costs to begin w/
so can often offer much lower rates.

I'm almost sure to get flamed for suggesting something other than CF, but
it's all about the right tool for the job. If the site will be manageable
enough through your admin section then the need for someone unskilled to
edit the source won't occur frequently.

Just a though.

Sorry to bitch but this is driving me insane!

Everytime I do actually manage to connect, it timeouts before I can upload
any files. The site itself takes ages to load and then I get server
errors.
The cfm-resources control panel is not even up.

Now, before you tell me that you get what you pay for, I totally agree.
I'm
developing a site for a non-profit organisation with next to zero funding,
which promotes science and technology career paths for high school
students,
girls in particular. The aim is to create a site that they can update and
maintain themselves, thereby requiring no more funding for web work. My
plan
being, if I can get the site running on the free hosting service, and they
see how great and easy it is and maybe interest some benefactors, I will
get
them to move to one of the low cost hosting services.

Re: cfm-resources?

2001-05-11 Thread Pablo Varando

The best you could have done is to call out toll free number (888) 929-1001.

The free sites are getting a dedicated T1 line this weekend directly for
that server, so we're currently configuring the machine for that. The
biggest problem with downtime and problems, was that that server is
currently getting over 2,000,000 daily page views and it's really bandwidth
consuming.

If you call our toll free support line and select the Webmaster option,
you can leave me a message and it'll come directly to my cellular phone.

Or you can reply to this email :)

Best regards,

3000 emails at approximately 24 seconds each (typing only - not problem
resolution) would take about 20 hours. Add to that the 1000 help desk
tickets (assuming you just respond to them by e-mail) plus the four hours of
live support, and you are working at least 30.6 hours out of every 24 hour
day - not to mention food and bathroom breaks. You sure know how to squeeze
every ounce of productivity from each moment!

Re: cfm-resources?

2001-05-11 Thread Pablo Varando

Not all emails take that long. Some emails yes, but most of them are
simply.

My FTP isn't working (because the user didn't wait the 24 hour period it
takes to create FTP, so I simply copy/paste the following:

FTP's can take up to 24 hours to become active, please wait 24 hours. If you
signed up more than 24 hours ago, please let me know!

And by that time it's already made, so they never write back. So that's how
I get to so many.

Tito (CFM's) new assistant handles about half the workload also, so that's
how I estimate that! Just wanted to let you know.

Have a nice day!

old or new passwords.

G'day Pablo/Tito,

I'm thrilled with all the changes that you're making, and very impressed
with how fast it's all happening. And I'm prepared to be patient and put up
with things that aren't quite right while you get it all organised. The
important things are all working beautifully. But a couple of things are
not quite right for me and I'd appreciate if you could clarify.

(1) Free or paid? Passwords confusing me...

I started with a free site, then when you offered the $5 for life thing, I
took up that option with my domain www.modelwarship.comNow the password
changes have confused me greatly. I picked up the new password, but my ftp
account doesn't work with that password. Only with the old password. So I
concluded from that that the new passwords only applied to free accounts.
Then I tried to get into the helpdesk, neither password worked. It just
said account mw72 wasn't recognised. The control panel only grants access
using the old password, the helpdesk not at all.

Can you clarify this for me please? Do I actually have two accounts ... my
paid account and the old free one still left as a legacy of the earlier
days?

I'm glad to see you're going to add a facility to let us change our
passwords. Typing in the new password your system generated is a bitch,
even with the printed page in front of me. And it's totally impossible to
remember. It'll be good when we can change it again. (Like many on the
net, I have a couple of dozen access passwords to manage)

(2) To www or not?

At one stage you had things set up to recognise sites with or without the
www. This is a highly desirable way to organise it, yet since the moves,
this has stopped. I can no longer access my site with
http://modelwarship.com Will you be restoring this setup eventually?
(The reason I'm anxious about this is I have started to publicise my site
without the www and anyone responding to that will not find my site).

Again, congratulations on a superlative service, and more power to your
magic wands!

Cheers,
Mike Kear

What I meant Jeffry was to dispute the charges, that way they
(cfm-resources) should get something in writing and a verbal, from the
credit card firm. Which in turn lets cfm know that your not going to just
let this go away, its just as easy to swipe the card, and take an amount,
as it is to swipe the card, and credit the account, I was through this 5
years ago, when I ordered something on the web and my credit card was
credited the extra (double charge) back and posted to my account within 24
hours, and through my local credit union.

HTH and good luck.

Re: cfm-resources: Dangerous, avoid at all costs.

2001-02-11 Thread Michael

Well there trying, and to all the people here that suggested what host to
goto, I can say that I am honestly happy with CrystalTech, and the answers
and response's that I get from them, everything was done within 11 hours,
and the registration was through www.inww.com which hit with in 36 hours of
initial setup, I have the 1st plan which is all I need, and only use this
so that I can put the pages I do for people up someplace and have them
review and make changes or except what I have done. CFM-Resources is good,
but the lack of support and people answering the phone and saying that so
and so is not there when he or she maybe there, and lack of internal
communications, well lets just say I wish them the best of luck and hope
they get things together. CrystalTech has 24/7 phone support and since I am
still new to this and don't KNOW all the in's and out's I went with them ,
there was another company and I don't off hand remember there name ATS
something or another and they were my second choice. Well sorry if I
rambled on, but that's just my version of the cfm thingy

If the card wasn't stolen, this may not be the best move. I have this thing about
honesty.

You probably do have some rights through the credit card, typically you have to put
it in writing and send it to
the company. I've done it before. Sometimes they are on your side, sometimes they
aren't.

RE: cfm-resources??

2000-10-15 Thread Scott Weikert

They recently reworked how the paths work for user accounts...
theoretically adding the first letter as an extra "directory" will allow easier
addition of servers (one for each letter)...

FYI, I signed up for one of these accounts, and though their servers might
be slow, the thing works. It's handy for those of us who don't have a full blown
server setup at home to develop stuff on. :)

RE: cfm-resources??

2000-10-12 Thread Parker, Kevin

I think its done alphabetically. I think I worked it out last night. I set
up region2ops and now I find it at http://www.cfm-resources.com/r/region2ops
It used to be http://www.cfm-reources.com/members/region2ops. The "members"
is dropped and replaced with the first letter of the site name. Hope this
works for you.

Re: Security hole Re: cfm-resources??

2000-10-12 Thread Jon Hall

That is not the only hole you will find when multiple CF sites are hosted on
the same server. Although, most hackers are not paying customers, so this
usually is not a problem.
If you are that sensitive about security, you should have a dedicated web
server.

Although I would like to see a version of CF Server aimed towards web
hosters, that maybe includes more isolation of each site on a server.

to the support bulletin board on the site have proven fruitless.

In this case, I am getting what I paid for.

RE: cfm-resources

2000-09-26 Thread Michael Kear

CFM-Resources have been rebuilding servers and doubling bandwidth, and
that has caused a lot of disruption in teh last few weeks, butI think it's
finished now.

At least I hope it is. I am trying to build a site there too.

Re: cfm-resources

2000-09-26 Thread Roger Lim

I think it's still down. They're currently trying to solve the traffic
problems.

Actually I think they should have a backup server and in case the server is
down, there's always another one to backup so as to maintain up-time.
