I hope they don't make them free :)

I just hope they keep adding more useful items to them, especially for
ColdFusion!

This is a good point. Occasionally someone will ask me why we don't
sell each individual project on the DRK separately because they don't
want to buy everything on the CD. The answer is that the DRK is priced
with the assumption that you will use one or two things on it, not
everything. In other words, if there are 20 distinct projects on the
DRK, would can't sell each project individually for $5 each ($100/20).
When making the build/buy decision, if the one or two projects you are
interested in aren't worth the $99 (considering they are completely
built, QAed and documented), then it's not worth buying the DRK. My
point is that one shouldn't be looking at the value of every single
project on the DRK (especially since most people probably don't even
use all the products that the DRK contains content for), but rather
what is the value of the portion of the DRK that is of interest to you.

Re: DRK releases

2003-07-09 Thread Mike Chambers
Just to clarify, if you subscribe to DevNet Pro or DevNet Essentials you get
access to the DRKs 3 months before they are available for individual sale to
non-subscribers.

However, there will be some new info on this very soon (hint, I am doing a
section during the FlashForward keynote tomorrow morning).

More info when it is available...

There is a lot of cool stuff in the DRKs - most of which you *could* write
yourself, but not for $99 of your hours (that's 2 - 4 hours work for most of
us, I reckon).
If you're only going to use one thing from it (DRK3-CFUnit, DRK2-Calander)
it's well worth it, and if you can use some of the extra bits too - great !

If you subscribe to Devnet, you'll get all of the DRKs before they're
available for general sale. If not, you can purchase each individually for
about $99 USD when they become available for general sale.

I believe it means you can only buy DRK3 if you buy a subscription to
DRK. If you just want to buy DRK3 individually then for some unknown
(read marketing-related) reason they make you wait 3 months.

So what does MM mean when it says "available to non-subscribers" ?

Sorry to go on about it, but I'm writing the proposal for a DRK

I would suggest that this means that you can get them for a more reasonable
99 bucks.

Although I just found

"We release DevNet Resource Kits (DRKs) every three months. DevNet
subscribers
get early-bird access to each DRKâEUR"three months before they are available

That sounds like DRKs are released to everyone after 3 months, paying or not
?
