Sean, Do you know if anything that is currently in Flash MX is not in the basic Flash MX 2004 and only in Pro, or is Pro all new features? -Kevin - Original Message - From: Sean A Corfield [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: CF-Talk [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, August 30, 2003 11:50 AM Subject: Re: Flash Professional vs. Royale On Saturday, Aug 30, 2003, at 07:43 US/Pacific, Sparrow-Hood, Walter wrote: Anybody care to comment or have any information the new developer related functionality in Flash Professional vs. what's been promised/hinted re: Royale. RE: Flash Professional vs. Royale
You may lose some components if you just upgrade to Flash MX 2004 (not pro) that you had with Flash MX (or Flash MX + DRK). TreeView, DataGrid, Calendar, and Accordian are Pro only (as well as some brand new components like Menu). That's the only thing I can think of, everything else is new.. (screens, editing external as files, source control). I doubt anyone has enough experience with the product to give you an intelligent answer at this point. But if Macromedia's response to users' wishes is anything like their response with CFMX version 6.1, I think you will be very pleased with the result. My comment is to make an effort to attend one of the presentations on Wednesday September 3 via the Macromedia Worldwide User Group meeting via Macromedia Breeze. http://www.macromedia.com there will be time at the end of the 90 minute presentation for QA and they will be anxious to answer all your questions, From the horses mouth so to speak. You just might be able to win a full retail copy of StudioMX 2004 Professional (Value $999.00) that will be raffled at each meeting. == For hosting solutions http://www.clickdoug.com Featuring CFMX 6.1, IIS 6.0 and more! RE: Flash Professional vs. Royale
Apples and oranges. Flash 2004 Pro: Develop RIAs via graphical IDE, like Flash MX only better. ;) Royale: Server-side product geared for server-side coders. i.e. you code the application via text/mark-up, as you would an html page. (similar idea anyways) I don't know enough about Royale to give any more specifics but in general I'd say that's the gist of it. I'm quite sure there will be advantages to both...and $10 says Royale gets built into CFMX 7. Royale is in direct response to Laszlo (http://www.laszlosystems.com/), so if you want insight into what Royale will be like I suggest you check out what Laszlo offers today. -Matt On Saturday, August 30, 2003, at 12:04 PM, Stacy Young wrote: Apples and oranges. While Lazlo and Royale may appear similar, Royale is in no way a direct response to Lazlo. Royale has been in development for quite some time (i.e. before Lazlo was released). mike chambers [EMAIL PROTECTED] - Original Message - From: Matt Liotta [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: CF-Talk [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, August 30, 2003 12:16 PM Subject: Re: Flash Professional vs. Royale To: CF-Talk [EMAIL PROTECTED] Royale is in direct response to Laszlo (http://www.laszlosystems.com/), so if you want insight into what Royale will be like I suggest you check out what Laszlo offers today. -Matt ~| Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm?link=t:4 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm?link=s:4 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.4 Signup for the Fusion Authority news alert and keep up with the latest news in ColdFusion and related topics. http://www.fusionauthority.com/signup.cfm
Re: Flash Professional vs. Royale
With all the indirect connections between Lazlo and Macromedia I'm sure Macromedia knew nothing about them until they released a product. :) -Matt On Saturday, August 30, 2003, at 12:33 PM, Mike Chambers wrote: While Lazlo and Royale may appear similar, Royale is in no way a direct response to Lazlo.
