Re: Has anyone tried out the SMS gateway on MX 7

2005-03-05 Thread Graham Pearson
I am using a way that does not cost anything to send text messages to
all digital cellphone providers and I am not using the various Web
Forums that providers have been putting online. I have been sending text
messages to cellphones and alphanumeric pagers since CF4.0 and looking
at my log files have sent 1 Million text messages since I started 4
years ago. The way that I handle this, I have the users sign an
agreement which they understand that if they go over the allotted number
of text messages in a month that they are responsible for the additional
charges.

My Interface is located at http://paging.niesc.k12.in.us/index.cfm.
During the past summer, I converted the HTML Table I was using over to
Flash and Flash Remoting.

Yes, because you need an SMSC setup so your CF server can behave as an
SMS service, like Google's SMS search (46645). Read the docs about it
- it explains the whole SMSC thing:

Exactly, SMS messages are paid by the sender. You will need to negotiate a
contract with a provider to send messages to real devices. Just as many of us
have to pay a Web hosting provider to send webpage's to others.

It is my understanding that Macromedia has laid some of the ground work with
ATT.

RE: RE: Has anyone tried out the SMS gateway on MX 7

2005-03-03 Thread Ian Skinner
This is all off my head from last years MAX conference.

You are going to need to contact a provider such as ATT or Verizon. They are
going to want to know something about what type of application you are going to
be building to protect their networks. What I remember the speaker saying was
that Macromedia has sort of pre-approved CF7 with at least ATT. They are
still going to want to know what you exactly plan to do, but they are
comfortable with the tool you will be using to do it.

As I understand pricing will be for a block of messages per month, it should
break down to a few mills (1/10 of a penny) per message, but I do not know how
big a block you have to buy.

Once you have a provider on board, they will provide all the connection details
that you set up in the administrator. Then you should be all set to broadcast
as many messages as you can afford.

For XMPP/Jabber you have to set up the config file and the cfc. Fill in the
username, password and server location inside the .cfg and setup the cfc and
point to both of them inside the Admin. I wish they included Jive with CF 7
so Rich clients would not have to run into cross domain issues. Maybe Jive
could have been another servlet service like remoting is currently.
