RE: Log analyzer software.
Personally, I have a little script I use to create my own IIS logs where I replace the appropriate URL variables with an associated page name. It means you have one set of logs which shows how many people have been looking at different images and with a lot of hits to index.cfm but another which is great for viewing page views, paths through the site, etc. I find that more reliable and less cumbersome than trying to persuade any of the stats packages to display just what I want based upon a number of different URL variables. Also, unless you need the built in web server to access the smarterstats webservices for some reason, you don't need to run the smarterstats webserver. Set the directory permissions and run it under IIS. A second vote for SmarterStats. Previous to that we were using Sawmill http://www.sawmill.net/ It's VERY powerfull but the on-the-fly processing was killing our server. If you have the hardware or run it locally it's great. It will chug through about any kind of log format you can think of (and if it doesn't you can send them the log and they will add it) Jim ~| Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:4:231501 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/4 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:4 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.4 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54

RE: Log analyzer software.
Well taxing the server depends on how much you have running automatically and other Factors. But yes, I have it running on the same box. Then again, think about how you will use it and how often and such to make the Determination if it needs to reside on it's own box. Mine is not used heavily but at the end of the month I have it generate reports For me to use. -Original Message- From: Che Vilnonis [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, February 06, 2006 1:49 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: RE: Log analyzer software. Thanks Randy. I see that. Do you run this on your web server or do you use SmarterStats on another machine? Basically, how much does it tax the web server? -Original Message- From: Adkins, Randy [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, February 06, 2006 1:46 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: RE: Log analyzer software. I'm sure this has been re-hashed before. I did a search at HofF and found not many pertinent results. I'd like some recommendations on web log analyzer software. I'd like it to be easy to configure (no command line), work with IIS 6 and not cause too much overhead. Automated monthly report generation is my main concern for several domains. I don't require "real time", "roi", "pay per click" or even "daily/hourly" reports, etc. I've used WebTrends in the past and found it limited. Perhaps their latest version would be better? Deepmetrix? Urchin? AWStats? Let me know... Any thoughts or ideas would be great.
