Actually, for Apps specifically, you can go directly there:
http://www.google.com/a/

We've been using this for figleaf.com for quite a while, after
migrating from Exchange. Fig Leaf Software is also a Google Enterprise
partner, and we provide implementation and official Google Enterprise
training on Apps end-user functionality, Apps administration, and
Google Message Security/Google Message Discovery (aka Postini).

Feel free to get in touch with me if you have any questions about Apps!

... unless both accounts share the same email address. For example, I
have two Google accounts with the email address dwa...@figleaf.com.
One is a GAFYD account, the other is a regular Google account with
Gmail and Calendar not activated. This allows me to use public Google
services like Analytics but have the email sent to my domain account,
and is a somewhat common thing for people to do if they have a domain
account. In my experience, I can't log into both of those
simultaneously from the same browser.

On an intranet you could do some DNS voodoo to hijack a google DNS
name and set some cookies from that DNS name. But if you go that way
you should take a moment to consider the security consequences of
messing with Google accounts.

Which is why I don't think your clients will be happy if you do this.
Imagine having Gmail open in one tab with an almost complete message,
clicking your intranet link for the statistics and suddenly being
logged out from your own Gmail account and into another Google account
for the analytics.

RE: Auto-login for trusted users

2005-04-25 Thread RADEMAKERS Tanguy
If it's an intranet and everybody is on windows and using IE, then
authenticate against NT login.
If it's an intranet and you have the time/money/infrastructure to handle
certificate management, then certs are a possibility. Warn the helpdesk.
Otherwise cookies are your best bet, but:
- make them secure cookies (only submitted over ssl)
- make them time out after a while (week, two weeks)
- implement two (or more) tier security so that some functions require
the user to type in a password (even|especially) if they were
automatically logged in.

I don't know about Firefox; I'm using Mozilla 1.7. With Mozilla, you can
send usernames and passwords to IIS sites using Windows Authentication, but
you have to type them in - it won't automatically use your local login
information as IE will.

RE: Auto-Login

2004-09-03 Thread Taco Fleur
You need to disable "Anonymous access" under the security tab of the website
under IIS.
This will populate the cgi variable cgi.auth_user

This will only work on your intranet though.

If you're using Windows and Internet Explorer on your client machines, and
IIS on your server, and the clients and server are within the same domain,
you can configure IE to automatically provide domain login credentials to
IIS, which can then be accessed via CGI or CFLOGIN within CFMX.

Re: auto login server & power outage

2002-02-19 Thread Jim McAtee

Depends a little on the BIOS... usually you reboot the computer and watch
the screen immediately following the computer's POST routine. Hold down the
"Delete" key (either one) when the little prompt says something to the
affect of "Press to enter setup". Sometimes it's the F2 key.

You won't be able to do this remotely via pcAnywhere or Terminal Server
since those programs only run after the operating system has loaded and the
BIOS prompt is long gone. You either need to be at the console or else use
a remote KVM ($$).

I'm not certain, but I believe most BIOS will have this option enabled by
default, although some of the older ATX motherboards are incapable of
automatically powering back up.

Note that you shouldn't have to do this, generally - typically, on a server,
you don't want to have a shell open all the time. If you have an application
that needs to be run, you might be better served by running it as a service
using the Resource Kit tool srvany.exe.
