RE: ColdFusion 8 hosting

2008-04-28 Thread ColdFusion
I have been using yohost.com for a few years.
Brett and Laith have been great and very responsive.

I started out of CF6 and now on CF8 and has been nothing but great
service/support.

I didn't quote it (had assumed the thread title of cf8 hosting, didn't know
that the forum software would take part of the first sentence of the immediate
follow-up which didn't work for me, not sure if I'm the only one...). sorry.

Ok, here's another one, located in OK, hostfolio.com. If sufficient interest
exists I'll consider to create a quick/dirty (single-liner) app to rate each

RE: ColdFusion 8 hosting

2008-04-24 Thread Dale Fraser
Those email problems are happening right now for a user I setup on this
service, he companied just days ago that it takes hours for mail to get
delivered and he wants out.

About 6 months ago I had CF server down for 2 days, no explanation as to why
or how long it would take, then it was fixed and no explanation of what the
problem was. The service I found to be very slow also, servers in the US
somewhere, probably in a garage on the end of a cable connection.

I can get better quality than that putting a server at the end of my home
ADSL.

I have a php site with them, the mail can take awhile but it is
dependant on the mail server load? Haven't noticed too many problems
lately, the only problem was one site was down for a few days because
it wasn't renewed otherwise it isn't too bad.

But hey, like people are saying you do get what you pay for.

With my php site they have been very good, but on some issues they
have taken a long time... I guess it depends on what they consider a

But seeing as you posted that, I can safely say that since then they

RE: ColdFusion 8 hosting

2008-04-24 Thread Dale Fraser
I would stay away from them.

It can take 2 hours for them to deliver email, their servers go down all the
time, their communication is very poor. And I reckon it's one many in a
garage somewhere.

Why are you sorry?

(I'm in NZ at the moment working on dialup - i'm not crusing all my
sites these days, only dealing with issues as they are notified to me.
I'll be cruising my sites again next week when i get home.)

If they've installed CF8 thats great news then. Cant have been long ago though.

indicate that they're certain enough of CF8 that they might not release an
update.

Just passing on their words.

it can be hazardous to jump on the bandwagon too early. There are
always issues with a new version of system software, and it can be a
marketing advantage to be first to offer the new version. but it can also
bite you as well.

Most hosting companies will be testing CF8, have it running on dev servers
or beta boxes, maybe offer it to a select few clients, but be watching what
happens to the other companies and be ready to move once any issues have
emerged.

It's not a trivial issue - every other version of coldfusion has had a
service pack or updater pretty soon after release. It all depends
on what (if anything) emerges as an issue with hosting CF8.

I have a client at HostMySIte who was upgraded yesterday, and some of the
IIS settings were lost in the process, bringing his site down.
So it's not totally without flaws.

Upgrade with caution is my view.I have never been one to be first
to jump on the new bandwagon just because it's new.

RE: Coldfusion 8 hosting

2007-08-20 Thread Andy Matthews
I host with Gearhost, and recently asked them if they were planning on
upgrading to 8. They said that it was in their plans. Who knows how long
that might last.

Subject: Coldfusion 8 hosting

Hi:
Is there any reliable Coldfusion 8 hosting server right now?
I found by googling the following company but never heard of them before.

Do you know any good hosting with reasonable price which supports all cool
CF8 features?
Thanks
Benign
