Re: Organizational Chart

2005-08-12 Thread Douglas Knudsen
i agree.

you would be surprised how often an org tree can change even in a
'non volitile' company. My company has 2+ employees. The org
tree changes pretty much daily. With People Soft reporting trees,
drill downs are cake.

2005-08-12 Thread Andy
Why not do a simple drill down tree?

Top Dog
Next animal
Etc.

Click on an element to see that tree.

These display well, don't have problems with handling branch structure that
is too wide, and gives you the flexibility to go all the way to an employee
picture and contact info. Clean, easy, fast.

RE: Organizational Chart

2005-08-12 Thread Connie DeCinko
You probably only want to generate the chart say once a week, or every few
days and store a static copy for display, in whatever format you chose.
Unless you have a very volatile organization, it should not change too
often.

The requirements are quite open. Performance is not really an issue, to be
brutally honest this application most likely will not be hit all that often.
The output should either be in html, flash, jpg, etc., again quite open.

We are looking to display this over our intranet. Dynamic is OK, like I
said, not many hits.

Visual display similar to what Visio would produce.

Re: Organizational Chart

2005-08-11 Thread Jerry Johnson
I was doing it as far back as 1998, so it has been possible for a while.

IIRC, it is an option when creating a new project (store as file or in
database.) Of course, it might have been an option during install. I
no longer have visio in my environment, so can't test.

Do you have visio? If so, it is easy to drive visio through data via
sql server, and very easy to drive the data from cold fusion.
