Subject: OT: UML programs?

Hey guys,

sorry for the somewhat off topic post, but does anyone know of or can
recommend a good free (hopefully open source) uml program? We
specifically need the ability to do database uml diagrams, but also
full program diagrams is needed as well.

I have looked at and tried several but they all seem to be lacking.
And visio is a little too pricey.

Thanks,

barneyb turned me on to the MyEclipse plugin, which I just downloaded and am
really digging. Free trial, $35/year gets you editors for XML, UML, DB
browsing, HTML WYSIWYG, Javascript, J2EE, and more. I got it just for the JS
editor, it rocks.

Have you tried ArgoUML? There is also an Eclipse plugin, EclipseUML, though
I haven't tried it.

I've recently become comfortable with the Poseidon for UML Community
Edition at gentleware.com. There are some limitations with it, and I
admittedly don't use most features of it, but it's great for mapping
out class diagrams and showing the relationships between each class.

Regards,
Dave.

No, havent tried argoUML yet. I looked at eclipseUML, but when I
downloaded it, it had the entire eclipse program along with it, not
just the plugin, and I wasn't sure which plugin was the right one.

All I mean by the database diagrams is that it have icons or pictures
or representations (not sure what you call it) for different database
types, like booleans, varchars, numerics, etc.

Try either ArgoUML or Poseidon - they're closely related. No little icons
like that though, at least not in ArgoUML.

Agreed on the pricing, as it's a bit steep. However, their Community
Edition is free and pretty robust in terms of features that are useful
for CF-ers. It's not like you can generate your CF code from it and
stuff like that, so you're not really missing a whole lot. That being
said, YMMV.

Dave.

I think it might be more that they're trying to hide it, if you go to
their site and do a cursory look around you'd miss it entirely.

Note that the Community Edition is not for commercial development
