Re: Web server for Win2kP?

2002-04-09 Thread Lord Skulbite

One of the differences in IIS5 between Server or Pro is that Pro will only
host one domain and does not do virtual domains. CFServer works well with
IIS5 for Pro.

Win2K Pro works quite well with the version of IIS shipped with it. I have
had mine setup at home and it is pretty solid as an FTP anyway. I have
installed the IIS5 for Win2Kpro in other places - You will have no problems
with it at all

You can load IIS for Win2000 PRO. I have not double-checked this, but I did
it at one point a few months ago and I think you just go to Control Panel |
Add Windows Components and check the box for Internet Information Server. It
is not installed by default and I guess there is some limitation on the PRO
version v. the Server version that is installed but I haven't a clue what
the differences are. But I do know that you can install it from your Win2000

Win2K Server comes with IIS 5; I don't know this for sure, but I suspect
that Win2K Pro comes with PWS 5 on the installation CD. You'll probably have
to install it through the main Windows Setup interface:

Re: Web server for Win2kP?

2000-11-20 Thread Stephen M. Aylor

add / remove programs from control panel - then into "Add Components"

can add IIS from there as a selection - I beleive that after adding the SP1
for win2k - its IIS5 ... ? No?

OK .. I'm probably going to look like a total moron here, but I have been
playing around with Win2k Professional and decided to load up CF Server on
it. 1 problem .. no web server. I tried downloading the Personal Web
Server and IIS 4.0, but Win2k told me I couldn't use either of them
because
they were only for '4.0' versions of Windows. Fine, so what am I supposed
to use? I looked all over the place and couldn't find any other version
of
IIS or PWS to download. I would keep looking and not bother the list with
this, but I don't have time to waste on this if it is going to be such a
 huge hassel.

Win2K Server comes with IIS 5; I don't know this for sure, but I suspect
that Win2K Pro comes with PWS 5 on the installation CD. You'll probably have
to install it through the main Windows Setup interface:

Control Panel ... Add/Remove Programs ... Add/Remove Windows Components

Uh, no, but if you already have Win2K, you already have it. It's on the CD!
At least, that's how it works with Win2K Server.

Go to Control Panel. Open Add/Remove Programs. Click on Add/Remove Windows
Components. Should be second option on list.

RE: Web server for Win2kP?

2000-11-20 Thread Denise Rolen

All you need to do is to install it from the CD. Why it is not installed on
default I cannot understand. Do control panel, add/remove programs and you
will see the optional WIN 2K components. Choose IIS and you're on your way.

I remember the time I spent forever looking for the personal web server or
to find it on my 98 CD under add-ins.

On Win2k Professional? I don't *think* it comes with it, but I'll look.
The CD is at work.

I just assumed that Win2K Professional was analogous with Win NT 4.0
Workstation.

Thanks all. There's always NT 4.0 Server or Apache or something :)
