Yes... hence the need for the order by clause on the original query

2006-09-05 Thread M@ Bourke
I've said it before and will say it againif your company gets to the top 200 companies on the ASX microsoft will be so far up your ass that you'll think you've got a second tonguethere whole marketing strategyis to get as many of the top 200 companies as possible, then they'll advertise in the magezines that the smaller companies read with ads that say stuff like "85% of the top 200 companies in australia use microsoft " then all the dumb managers think "$hit everyone is using this thing, I got no idea what it is but we should scrap what we use now even though I have no idea what we use now and just use this product that everyone is using"
Macrobe should simply do the same, a part from the whole top 200 companies MS also targets government hard ass. M@

[cfaussie] Re: Why buy into CF?

2006-09-05 Thread Andrew Mercer
I think Microsoft have the advantage over Adobe in that .Net is just one part of a whole solution that they can provide. When you get windows you get .Net. If you buy CRM, you get .Net. So when it comes time to do new projects or want to customise existing solution or want to integrate into their systems - what are you going to use?
And as easy and as wonderful as ColdFusion is - it is going to be a hard push to convince people to *buy* another product that in their eyes does the same thing.How do you compete with free*?* free may not actually mean won't cost money :-)

the developers suggestions are in complete disconnect to what seniormanagement can see of the market.I don't know if advertising is the solution, and I accept that its veryexpensive, but something needs to be done to raise CFs visibility to
the non developer community.

[cfaussie] Re: Why buy into CF?

2006-09-05 Thread Barry Beattie

(I really promised myself I'd shut up but I gotta correct a couple of things).

Andrew, that's true in the MS world, and sadly, it seems this is also
Jeremy's (earlier post) reality too.

it's not just .NET. We're buying in a huge LMS (CMS for learning,
really)... built in Java. Guess what the extentions will be in?
Java/JSP. (nevermind that CF *is* java and has JMS gateways built
in... that argument failed to get any traction). The point? Platform
lock-ins will *always* be a problem. CF has to rise above that. Be
thankful you're not locked into Powerbuilder, or Lotus Notes or
Informix 4GL.

two more points:

Grant Strakers' presso in buying into the [MACR/Adobe] vision to
increase marketshare was based on integration with other [MACR/Adobe]
products. It's gotta account for something. Heck, for my market
sector, a CF tie-in with, say, Breeze and Captivate would be a
giant-killer. For financial sectors or government, integration with
LiveCyclePDF generation might be it.

Apart from class libraries, isn't that what .NET *really* is? the glue
between products? Interop is king.

> Ben Forta is coming to my work next tuesday for a visit,

M@: would it be a safe guess that this what Ben Forta will really be
doing? I bet he's not going to bore people with stuff CF has been
doing for ages. The underlying message will probably be CF with RIA's
Flex and dynamic data, probably FDS, gateways, etc. tell us how it
went, eh?

> maybe they need
> more ben forta's (As he can only be in on place at one time) and have them
> continually going around the companies.

sounds good to me. There is no doubt in my mind that Adobe will make
an effort integrating CF with a mountain of funky Adobe stuff in
releases to come. Stuff that will be a real buzz to work with, with
interop _that_no_other_company_can_do_.

You know this. I know this. but my bosses boss doesn't

[cfaussie] Using CFCProxy

2006-09-05 Thread Scott Arbeitman

I never thought I would need to do this, but I need to invoke
ColdFusion components from inside Java (and I will invoke the Java code

I've written a simple test:

import coldfusion.cfc.CFCProxy;

public class UseCFCProxy {

public String doSomething() throws Throwable {
CFCProxy aCFC = new CFCProxy("path\\to\\Test.cfc");
Object result = aCFC.invoke("aMethod", new Object[] { });
return (String)result;
}

}

and Test.cfc looks like this:

I try to use the Class like this:

I presume you've followed the instructions at:
