[cfaussie] Re: Should I Purchase Enterprise

2007-07-01 Thread Chris Ellem

Dale,

Why dont you buy and use the the standard version for starters.

If you have a client that requires the enterprise version, then pass
the cost on.
Remember to include fees for you require for testing and production
server setup and ongoing maintenance.

You could also split the cost between your existing clients if you can
onsell the benefits to them.

Then you wont be wasting money.

There are a number of deployment options you can choose for the
Enterprise version.

The multiserver config option is a popular install option.

Just one option.

2007-06-29 Thread AJ Mercer
Would getting the full J2EE JRun server be of any benefit to you?

This may not be a very good example, but illustrates what is possible
I installed C* 8 as a multi-server configuration.
In JRUN created a new application server
Then dropped in the Railo 2 war

I am hoping to get some time on the weekend to run a a JBOSS server and see
that this J2EE is all about.

I was a little hopeful that the Enterprise price might drop a bit or they
might do a better deal when upgrading from Standard to save some dollars,
that would make the decision easier. It's a harder decision with a 5k US
 price difference.

A little too early to tell for ColdFusion 8 as Adobe haven't released
the specification differences yet. But if you can afford it
future-proof yourself and go with Enterprise.

JBoss and JRun are both J2EE servers. The only difference is the
price. Can install CF on either.

That, and the CF installer automatically wires up CF and JRun together.

(Not having deployed CF on anything other than JRun personally, this is
a really weak argument, though)

2007-06-29 Thread Peter Tilbrook

Yes the software price difference is hard to fathom. Adobe are amongst
the most expensive - almost outrageously so - I mean nearly $1000 for
Dreamweaver CS3? Windows Vista is also vastly overpriced here.
