The 69 Chevelle should sit level using the lower edge of the door as a guide.
Check your springs for the rubber spacers. Maybe the front has them and the
rear does not? I have seen spacers in different thickness. Maybe somebody
added them to your front springs?

The front wheel well is cut higher for the front wheels. Go by how level the

Everywhere else I checked had the same price as Desert Rat, except CostCo
where you can buy wholesale. I ended up getting the one from CostCo for $30
cheaper.

I had my alternator tested today at AutoZone and it was bad, so I traded
them... we'll see if all this helps... I might end up getting a more
powerful alternator if this doesn't work.

Absolutely correct, but the ONLY code that absolutely indicates an SS
is "W" for the 454 motor. All of the rest of the motors could be had in
non SS vehicles. In 72 the 454 was ONLY available in an SS.

If anyone is interested, a co-worker has a 72 SS for sale. It does
have the motor code of "W" in the VIN.But, the original motor is long
gone. It has a 72 coded 402 in there now. Turbo 400/ 3.31 gears,
aftermarket radio in cut dash.Interior pretty rough but OK for a
driver. From underneath, the floors/trunk look solid - I'l look
closer if someone expresses interest. The exterior is showing body
cancer - Lower rears of both fenders/ bottom of passenger door / front
of quarter panels on both sides. Paint is original and showing its age.
Trunk & hood both have surface rust.He wants $5500. for it. He
drives it daily and has 80-82,000 miles on it.

I have been after him for about 2 years to sell it. But he has had
it since the early 80's and was always gonna "redo" it, someday.
Anyway now that it is available, I am in no way able to swing it
financially. If I bring another "project" home I'll be sleeping in it.
If anyone is interested, I can put you in contact with him.

A loose or dirty connection, somewhere?? You may need to check the
battery cables - both ends- and the grounds between the motor & frame -
frame & body - and any other grounds that you may have. OR the battery
itself could be intermittently open. OR the ignition switch.OR the
connection for the wiring harness from the engine bay into the passenger
compartment could be loose.I've heard of all of these things causing
intermittent problems. Good Luck with this one, chasing electrical
gremlins is fun. NOT!

Nothing. This happened once before about two weeks ago and I was just trying

I'm sitting there tryin to figure how to get to work and suddenly I see my
voltometer come to life and the flashers are blinkin. Turn the key, starts
right up and I'm gettin the usual 14.something volts. This morning same
thing, i threw the headlights on and maybe 15 seconds later went out to check
under the hood, by the time I got to the front the headlights were on. I have
no idea when or how long the power was off, both times I had to reset the

lot of other crazy stuff going on that morning. I have no other electrical

The company that does the engines for Advance is a pretty good source, a guy
that I know got an engine from them a few years back, it was just a six
banger 3.1 for his Calvalier, he put it in and broke it in properly and one
day it spun a bearing. He went back told them the problem, he pulled the
motor and sent it back. Sure he was mad that he had to reinstall the engine
(front wheel drive AHHH!) but within 2 days they gave him a new motor. He
still runs it now, no problems coughs or anything, and it currently has
about 150,000 miles on it (he drives alot for his job, the old motor had
350,000 on it when he blowed it at 70 mph on a freeway in Ohio). He says
that if the body of the car is still in good shape after this one lets go
he'll do it again, he is a satisfied customer. My buddy with the 66 Impala,
his 350 is from Advance, I know this particular engine very well and after
22,000 miles so far (this boat gets driven everywhere), all that has been
done are a few carb adjustments and replaced a leaky head gasket (that was
Adams fault!!! He put the heads on not me so I don't want to hear it).
This particular bit has sold me on wanting to go the box route. I thought
you guys liked crate motors though so whats with all the fuss? I feel that
it is better than some moron around here rebuilding my engine and I have a
total engine failure in the next 15 miles, then the guy would say I was
running it too hard and to his "inspection" he would find something that
looks like it was run hard during break in (I trust nobody around here, I
prefer to go with a reputable company than the morons I deal with on a daily
bases) On further thought though, yes, they could possibly stick me with a
p.o.s. engine and void my warranty, but I would take the same chances
spending $2,000 for a local builder to build the motor and it turn loose on
me way before its time and he not give me any sort of garantee that it
will work. All he is there for is to slap the thing togather and maybe it
will work, at least with the company I have a chance at least if it don't
work I can take it back. There are reputable builders around here, but they
like to take thier sweet time getting around to doing something, not to
mention they won't turn a wrench for less than $1,500. The next engine in
my car will not be a 350 as I have seen many done, it will be a big block
and I prefer to keep it the way it came from the factory, I like my baby big
block. Then on another thought, I may already have my other 396 built by
the time the current one lets go, but I won't have a snowballs chance in
Hell of getting any of my money back if something goes wrong with the home
built engine, but then again it might just be the best motor in the world
but I have no luck.
