I need to regain some lost horsepower, and shed a little weight, so I'm
thinking of changing out my current exhaust(3" aluminized w/Dynomax
mufflers). From what I've been reading it appears the hot setup is a
Dr.Gas 3.5" in/out xpipe with two Borla XR1 12" Sportsman 3.5" in/out
mufflers. I will not be using my tailpipes but instead I will have
turndowns in front of the axle.

Anyone know how loud XR1 mufflers are? Wouldn't want to wake up
sleeping

NOS would mean you could walk into a Chevrolet dealer and find a part for a
60's/70's Chevelle on the shelf, under the stairs, up in the rafters, etc.
That same part could also be found at a swap meet where the seller went in
and cleaned inventory of a dealer. The key is in the words, NEW (i.e.,
never used) - OLD STOCK (original GM/Ford/MoPar that was stocked for
replacement). Repros may (or may not) be licensed by GM , Ford, MoPar, etc,
but they're not NOS.

Another acronym used frequently is OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer.
Say someone had a contract to supply a part to GM for a number of years but
retained the rights to the item. GM discontinues carrying the part but it's
still available from the OEM. Same part, different box.

Used parts are used parts, 1 mile or 100,000 miles. Well, maybe 1 mile
might be considered a "take-off" :*)

I take it, that means the stuff that was on the shelf when the car was
built.

Yes, when the original manufacture stopped production of those parts
then would then thoseparts would be classified as NOS

Not the stuff that was manufactured after they found out someone wanted
to restore them.

Correct, this is better know as "aftermarket" which can be made
concurrently with originalmanufactured parts

So if you have NOS parts, they aren't the original parts that were on
the car,

They are original parts manufactured by the auto maker but were never
installed

but they were the same as you would get if you replaced them a couple of
years later before they were discontinued.

Correct unless you replaced them with an aftermarket part

Correct?... or am I way off? (I may be off, but I'm talking about the
parts explanation ).
Thanks

I put a 770 cfm on the big block. It is about the same ratio as a 600cfm on
a 350. 770:468 approximately equal 600:350.

I dont know what size jets are in it. I look forward to goofing around
tuning and experimenting the carb this spring. In the past carburetors have
been a black-box to me. I want to learn more.

Mark,
Which CFM rating Avenger did you put on your 468? Do you know what jets are
in it?
For what it's worth the jets in a 1971 LS 6 factory carb were listed as 70
primary and 76 secondary ( info. from my factory chassis manual for the
Holley) .
They look lots more attractive price wise than the HP series I was going to
put on my own 468 BB. Keep us posted.
Thanks

New Old Stock. They are original, unused GM parts that have been
discontinued. As soon as GM discontinues a particular part, the remaining
inventory becomes NOS.

[Chevelle-List] Junk Yard Liquidation, Super Chevy Pomona

Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List

Hey Everyone,

Boy, we keep getting busier and busier!

I've made a deal to liquidate the inventory of a junkyard that is closing.
I'm going to be getting about 150 pieces in the next couple months. These
are mostly doors, fenders, hoods, radiator core supports, trunk lids, grills,
bumpers, tailgates, etc. I will post pix and inventory lists as they become
available. They are from 60's and 70's Impalas, Camaros, Chevelles, El
Caminos, Cutlasses, Skylarks, Firebirds, Novas, etc. And, lots of Monte
Carlo parts.

I will be bringing a lot of these parts to the Super Chevy show this weekend
at Pomona. I'll be in the swapmeet (used parts) section. I don't know which
spaces yet, but look for my blue canopy and blue Auto Obsession banners.
I'll try to have my cell phone with me too, so you can call if you have
trouble finding me.
I decided to do the swapmeet section because of all the used parts I have
available, and because it will save me a few hundred dollars over a
"Merchant" space. The only drawback is I'm not allowed to sell new parts
there. But, if you need something in particular, let me know and I'll sneak
it in for you! ;-)

As I said, I am very busy. I just hired a helper this week and I may need to
get another. I really need a Mac computer wiz (at a reasonable cost).
So, please forgive me if I don't respond to emails right away. Sometimes I
need to check our inventory before I respond, and sometimes I'm just busy!
Please bear with me during our growing stages!
And finally, thank you very much to all of you who have supported us and who
continue to do so!

JJ:

I think I am leaning exactly to the compressor you recommend. I have a buddy in the
AACA checking down a wild goose for me that may actually have one I can get for a
reasonable sum. It's probably ancient, but heck, if it is sound, it will work for me.

1) I would definately go oil lubed. As someone else mentioned, the
oil-less are NOISY. And it'll seem even louder at 10pm when you're trying
to work on something in the garage.

2) I have a 6HP 33-gallon Craftsman on wheels. I imagine if I started
running a DA sander it might struggle, but it does pretty well for running
my other tools -- impact gun, air ratchet, air-chisel. I like the fact that
I can throw my compressor in the back of my Elky and take to a friend's
house if they have a project going on -- as long as they have a 220 outlet
somewhere!

3) No -- oil lubed compressors will not get oil in the line. They do make
air-line oilers, I believe, so that your air tools get a constant supply of
lube in the line. But this is more for a pro shop where the tools are being
used all day, every week. Not really meant for a home shop, IMO.

Make sure you look at the SCFM ratings at 40 and 90 psi. Then, compare it
to the requirements of the tools you're going to use.

I too am looking closely at buying a compressor. I am getting very close
to buying and researching for hours at many places on the net to
compare. Here are some questions I still have:

1. Oil lubed or oiless ? What are the advantages/disadvantages?

2. 30 Gal 6hp craftsman for $279

or

3. 60 Gal Cast Iron twin cylinder oil lubricated pump for $329 +
shipping?

4. Would an oil lubricated pump get oil in the lines?

I looked at Sams club, the only decent on there sells for over $800 and
can't find it online. Home Depot doesn't have any decent ones online.
Lowes has one online that's fairly decent.

Anything else I should consider when buying one?

Oil lubed, the oiless ones are noisy as can be and just seem to not be as
efficient. Checking the oil every once in a while isn't that bad.

I'd go with at least the 60 gal oil lubed, although check with a local
supply house and like others said home depot or lowes or sams club. Stick
with name brands and ou'll be ok (Coleman, Craftsman, IR etc). Also if you
can swing it I really would go with a two stage unit.

> 4. Would an oil lubricated pump get oil in the lines?

Nope the motor is what is oil lubed. The air pump part is isolated via the
drive belt.

Take a trip out to some of the stores to get a look at them. Much easier
to look at them and decide. Hey you know what you are looking for now,
CFM, capacity, HP, stage and power supply needs; go out and compare them
for yourself, a lot of the time there are more units in the store and
selection varies from each store.

Don't forget to check whether the units operate on 110 or 220 volts!

Tony, try a smaller nozzle. I Had the same problem and I stepped down 2
sizes in the nozzle and it worked. My compressor kept running and not much
media was coming out. Be sure the siphon is below the media all the time.
Got mine at Eastwood.

Hey Tony
If you can swing it I really would suggest getting a 220 two stage
compressor. If we didn't have two single stage compressors dad would have
bought one by now. And do yourself a favor and don't get an oiless
compressor!!! They are majorly loud. I will say that the Coleman unit we
have is pretty nice. Although the stupid control switch is leaking... :o(
We just haven't gotten one to replace it yet...

Hope to see ya in June!
