RE: [Chevelle-List] 327 motor mounts

2002-04-09 Thread Dave Studly

Paul,

Did you try a couple of your local Chevy dealers? I'd try the bigger and/or
older dealers first, and then maybe a place like Scoggy-Dicken, or one of
the other GM outlets for the crate engines. You said you called some-- I'm
not sure if you called GM places or not.

The engine mounts (not frame mounts) should be pretty easy to find. I
bought some for my '70 and '72 at the local parts stores. I can find the
part numbers, if you wish. Let me know.

Thanks Brad,

I exhausted all your information here and have no leads. How come you just
can't buy 327 motor mounts and frame stands for a 1964 Chevy Chevelle.

I even went so far as too call a few high performance small block
replacement crate type engine suppliers and ask them how I could bolt them
to my car. The best answer I got was they're out there.

I would love anymore ideas someone could pass along.

You are looking for the actual mount, correct? This is also called a frame
stand, I think. For those of you who think he is asking about motor mounts,
he needs the part that bolts to the frame of the car that the motor mount
then bolts to. My car has the small block stands (swapped from the big
block stands) because otherwise my headers would not go in.
I found some at a junkyard, so I suggest you call around for some of the
larger Chevy junkyards. I think I paid about $100 for the pair, but this
was a long time ago so it might have been less.
I Found some '66-'67 mounts at Ausley's
(http://www.chevelle.com/catalog.asp?action=categoryid=9) listed as
EFB667S$99.001966-67 S/B Engine Frame Mounts pr

So I would think that there would be something similar for the '64 models.
Maybe try calling Ausley's or some of the other supplier and they might know
what you can use. You can try searching the Team Chevelle site
(http://www.chevelles.com/) to see if this has been discussed as well.

I am making an engine swap, the six cylinder and powerglide are out and I am
looking for engine mounts to put the 327 in the 1964 chevelle. I have made
all my local phone calls and no one can help. Where can I find these
mounts? (frame and engine block) And how can I be sure they will work in a
64?

I am also wondering about linkage for the 350 transmission that is going in
with the 327. Is it possible to link up with the column shifter where the
powerglide shifted from. Maybe a floor shifter would be nice (bench seats ,
no console) anybody found one that works well? overday

Subject: [Chevelle-List] 64 Malibu SS

Hello I wrote to you sometime ago about my
64 Malibu SS which I owned back in 1972, which the gal pulled out in
front of me in her MG. Well, ever since July 6, 1972, when my 64
Malibu SS went away...I've looked thru out the Central Illinois area for one
like it. A dark blue, light blue interior, hard top with the 283
4bbl. I know all you hot rodders don't find that impressive, but that
was my first car, back when no money was available to do much
else. Well, I'll be 48 this May 9th, and thanks to a lot
of great people on this list, I'm told I may have the 64 Malibu SS Hardtop
delivered to my door by that date if scheduels hold, baring anything
unforseen. The car is a solid Arizona car which compared to all
the restoration projects I have looked at, has an extremely little amount of
rust and being bought from a great guy. Lots of communication and well,
somewhere around 28 photos. He even lifted the car on a hoist and took a
bunch of photos of the undercarriage for me. So in just
a couple of weeks, I'll have the car sitting here in my "recently cleaned
out garage"which included telling the wife her car will have to sit
outside for sometime. LOL I didn't happen to mention how long . or
how long it will take to restore. I don't know who
is more excited, me or my 14 year old son Jeff. It's going to be a
great year... Wondering if some of you
might take the time to look over the following and tell me what your
opinion.re: Paint Restoration
Questions/Items needed below
I got a lot of questions, "a nervous
novice" LOL ...
Needed: Set of Mint/near Mint 64 Malibu SS Mag Hub Caps. Have
65 SS Hub Caps I won't need.

Rear Antenna and installation
kit.
Possibly a hood. (The hood on the 64 SS has hood pins that were added to the
hood, that I'm not sure if I want to keep, since not original). "Any
Opinions".
Factory Air Cleaner for a 64 SS with a 283
4bbl.
Pair of 64 SS rear quarter panel emblems. 65's are a bit
different.
Source for: Delco Tar Top Repro
Battery
Question: Anyone ever do a change over from front fender to
rear quarter panel mount installation for the antenna on a 64 SS??? I
like the rear mounted better, but car has it on front fender. Since this was
an "option" in 64, "from what I have been told" I didn't think that this
would hurt keeping original. Any opinions?Question:
Anyone know what brand and size of tire was factory original? Does anyone
know what tires looks and fits the car best?Question: What
parts on the engine operation should remain original "Delco"
manufacturer? Dist. Cap, Starter, Water Pump, Coil, Battery, Plug Wires,
Carb, Plugs, ect.Question: If Chrome kit added on engine,
Changing out Air Cleaner, Valve Covers, Oil Cap, ect., does this help
or hurt the value of the car when bringing back to factory original?

The only wheels I know of that ARE offers custom offsets are the Torq-Thrust
II, series 405 - not the 505 series which are standard offsets. Go to their
website at http://www.americanracing.com. Click the 3rd icon across the top
(a wheel), select Vintage on the left side, then the second page [2].
They've changed their site a bit. They used to show ALL offsets and
backspacing for each wheel (they did a few months ago when I bought my 17

The key is _GM of Canada_. While some have the same names and
probably the same color, none of the codes match. In 64, GM of US used the
three number code and not letter codes as in 65 and up. GM of US had 15
colors available, GM of Canada apparently had 18 colors. Diplomat Blue

American Racing has just released the a few rims that are listed in their AR-Custom Shop as 2 piece rims. You can actually specify your off set requirements to your application. [Chevelle-List] Saginaw 4speed

2002-04-09 Thread Jeff Bisnett

Hello everyone
I am just finishing a frame off on my 67 malibu and
should have it running in about 3 weeks
but when I bought the new Saginaw 4 speed I
realized I let the shift arms that go in the side of the tranny go with the old
transmission and I can't seem to find the shift rods about the only thing I have
is the shift gate. Does anyone have any of these parts laying around they might
be willing to part with or can anyone tell me where to find them? Everything I
see in Year one,OPG, or Danchuk is for a Muncie and says Saginaw not available.

Help
I have waited a year to drive her and im missing
about the only thing I can't run down and buy.

Thanks
Jeff 67 Malibu

Collectors are where the four pipes go into one large one...the reducers
bolt onto the end of the header collectors and then graduate to the exhaust
pipe size.

RE: [Chevelle-List] headers for small block

2002-04-09 Thread Dave Studly

Any headers will burn any wires. If your wires are getting burned, it
sounds like they need to be re-routed. Wires are cheaper (and easier) to
replace than headers.

With that said, I'm happy with my Hedman 1 5/8 headers on my 406 and would
recommend them. Inexpensive and durable (so far). I spent $90 a few years
ago at Summit.

I am wanting to put new headers on my chevy 350 and i was wondering what
would be the best kind. I have straight plugs and i am looking for a pair
that aren't gonna burn up my wires. If anyone knows anything please tell
me. thanks

Re: [Chevelle-List] Horn

2002-04-09 Thread Mistbluemalibu
Of my two horns only one worked, and it sounded very weak. The weak sound coming from only one note horn was pretty sad. I found a pair at a junk yard, but they did not work either. So since I had two of each note to play with I started banging a totally dead one on the drive way and shaking the dirt out of it. I also blew compressed air into it and turned the screw back and forth. When I connected it to the battery I was suprised to hear some life squeak out of it. The more I banged it and shook it and blew it out and tweaked the screw, the stronger it got. Out of the four bad horns I ended up with a really strong high note and low note that sound great together. I have a strong chevelle horn now out of horns I got at a junk yard.

Of course now I see they have them new, availible in catalouges.
