Davis: the car was down south mid California area. Someone I know was looking at it or something. it may have been someone on the list. I can't recall the price but do remember about the same time there was a documented 70 l-s6 el camino for sale (over 30 k). Larry (z)
RE: [Chevelle-List] So close
Well, it's not quite a Chevelle, but I dug my parent's '63 Vette out of their garage to continue working on our restification. We had a capable family friend put a new frame under it a couple years ago, and now it's time to start with the interior and paintwork. My Chevelle has been stashed out at their place for the time being so that I have room in my garage. This weekend's project is a new 4 speed shifter. So far, the old one is out, and the new one goes in tomorrow morning. Carb rebuild next. -Dave '70 Chevelle (12.90 @ 105) '72 El Camino (the cruiser) '63 Corvette convertible (dad's car, my labor) -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of rick schaefer Sent: Saturday, June 08, 2002 11:20 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re:[Chevelle-List] So close Most Excellent. Or did you miss the 7 on the keypad? ;^) What's wrong with the existing carb that it requires a rebuild? >How important is it to keep it stock? Any thoughts would be appreciated! The nice thing about carbs is that most of the time the swap can be easily reversed in the future if necessary. Save the original line from the pump to the carb along with the carb and any other related pieces. If a stock appearance is needed in the future you'll have all the stuff needed to do it. Re: [Chevelle-List] Advancing Timing
Keith, Just a guess here, but even as low as 1500 RPM, the time it takes for a piston to go from 12 degrees BTDC to TDC has got to be milliseconds. So, if you fire it at say, 6 degrees BTDC, and figure the time it takes for the air/fuel mixture to fully ignite, there's a possibility that the piston may actually be on its way back down the cylinder bore before any power is applied, wasting some of the power stroke. Firing the plug earlier, at 12 degrees BTDC, gives you the time needed to fully ignite the charge while the piston is at or near the very beginning of the power stroke. Lets do the math. 1500 RPM equals 25 revolutions per second. That's 9000 degrees of travel every second. Assuming that a 350 mouse motor is a 4" stroke, ( I'm not sure ), 12 degrees BTDC equals roughly 1/8". That's 10.8 milliseconds before TDC. And that's at a fast idleimagine 4 or 5 thousand RPMs. OR, I could be way off base with these figures. I never thought about it before, and its the best answer I could come up with quickly. Take it easy, its nice outside. Dan McIntosh 65 Malibu

RE: [Chevelle-List] where ya at?
I like the idea of flames on Chevelles myself. But this is one thing that is purely a matter of opinion and has nothing to do with anything else. I totally understand someone not liking them. I am considering doing flames myself, but more subtle than most. Possibly ghost flames. I think a lot depends on how they look when finished. I say go for it if it's what you think YOU will like and to heck with what other people think ;) Steve -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of michael andrews Sent: Friday, June 07, 2002 11:53 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [Chevelle-List] where ya at? [Chevelle-List] Advancing Timing
I am just sitting here thinking (very dangerous thing to be doing) about why advancing the timing makes more power. If you go from 4,6,8 degrees before TDC to 10,12,14 degrees on the timing, why this makes more power. This means that you fire the plug 10+ before the piston reaches TDC. The piston is still moving up when you decide to fire the plug early. When you fire the plug early by advancing the timing, the piston is still trying to move upwards, but you have fired the plug and the force should then try to move the piston down, but the piston must still pass TDC before it can be forced down. Why is that?. I am confused. I know that advancing the timing makes more power, but WHY. Your firing early Just wondering Keith Cooper [EMAIL PROTECTED] See my Chevelle:http://home.mindspring.com/~keithc/index.html

[Chevelle-List] for sale?
Yikes, what a month. My stereo amp dies, for the fourth time this year. It's basically unfixable. Had it 25 years, but time to buy a new one. A couple to a few thousand dollars are needed for some nice McIntosh equipment. Wife's car needs servicing. $400.00 bill for that. Wife is very reluctant to let me work on her car for anything other than minor stuff as she thinks I work too much as it is.(?) My C4 starts running roughly, but no engine codes appear. The dealer says they can fix it for $1800.00. They're saying it could be the opti spark plug wires and plugs. I'd like them to fix it under the 7 year/70k miles emissions warranty, but the car was sold originally in Texas. I have to wait until at least Monday to work this one out. Not gonna pay 18 hundred to the dealer, but whatever it is is gonna be more money. And the wife is planning our Caribbean vacation for August. Several thousand dollars more out the door. Then the el Camino's tranny still needs reworking. So, I'm thinking of selling it. Don't want to, but I don't see having any extra cash soon, and it would be nice to have a reliable (inexpensive) truck. Re:[Chevelle-List] charging problem
Further explaination needed, at least for me. I'm reasonably sure that you do your alternator/charging system no good by disconnecting the battery with the motor running. Do you have a volt meter? (If not, you can buy one at harbor freight or radio shack for less than $10.00 - they are handy) If you do have a meter, reading across the battery with motor off should read about 12-13 volts if fully charged. Once the car is running reading across the battery should be about 13.5-14 volts if all is good.If less than 13.5-14 at the battery, take a direct reading between the battery post on the back of the alternator (heavy post) and a good ground on the motor. It should be 13.5- 14. If less than that, pull your alternator and have it bench checked at parts store. rick -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Not sure whats wrong when i first start up the car it charges fine but when it warms up i can pull the pos batt cable and it dies let it cool down and it charges again hopefully someone can give me some answers joe rick schaefer 72 El camino http://members.home.net/jimmy4/rick1972elky.html ACES #00140 Team Chevelle #00038 - To Unsubscribe please visit www.chevelles.net/list.html To start a new topic, send mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bill, Somewhere in my "notes", I have the information that you are looking for. Off the top of my head, I believe the company that was reproducing the pieces was Goodmark Industries. There are 3 pieces, the heater core "cover", the "top hat" (both located inside the engine compartment), and I believe there was also the piece to cover the dash opening. The kit was labeled for either a '66 or '67. Although I believe the "cover" and the "top hat" will also fit the '68 thru '72. If you are still in need of help, drop me a line. Michael, Personally, I think people need to be very careful with flames. It would seem that for every nice flame job I see, theres about 5 or 6 not so good ones. That being said, when it comes down to it, the only person you have to please with your car is yourself ( and sometimes the significant other ). Take it easy. Dan McIntosh 65 Malibu
