as you can see there are many differences between the two books. this was the first i heard about 64 being different than 65.i have done many chevelle swaps over the years and take many things for granted. it seems many of the ones they show not working will work will very little modifications it really wouldn't be very funny to have one all powder coated and ready to drop a body on it and find out it isn't the right one. back to the original question. if you cut close to 4 inches off that el camino frame it will work on the chevelle.

ok, heres the story. The motor came out of
a 1966 Chevelle SS, as far as I know. it is supposely the 375 hp
version. We just visited him today (I said we were going to yesterday,

had paint chips all under it. I concluded that it was 8 - 9 grand.
But didn't say nothing, except to my dad, and he agreed with me (remember, the
guy is asking 11,500). We took it out for a ride, and it felt very
smooth, he said it has gas shocks, and I forget what company it was.
There is a guy coming from ohio to look at it. my dad offered him 8500,
and Shawn (the chevelle owner) said that after this guy from ohio, if he does
not buy it, he will look to us. also, we found out from inside sources

Re: [Chevelle-List] T-5 rear end bearing

2002-09-21 Thread Michael Pell

I wouldn't heat the axle tube to remove it. You can use
a slide hammer to pull it out, or get a long rod (like a broom handle),
insert it into the opposite axle tube, and set it up against the bearing
on the side you want to remove from. Then smack it with a big hammer
a few times. it'll come right out.
The bearings on the carrier must be pressed off/on.
Be wary of the T5, they're known for breaking. TTC only rates
them for V6 applications.
good luck,

Re: [Chevelle-List] 66 rocker panel molding

2002-09-21 Thread Richard Milkiewicz

John, my '66 has the same holes and I think the
rockers are original. The holes I think are from the die stamping. They are
there for the die to grab onto to move it to the next stamping station. These
parts are not made in one stamp of the die but a series of hits. The rocker
molding clips have small holes drilled to screw the clip to. New rockers don't
have these holes. You have to drill them. Or you can weld up the oval holes and
have no rockers.

On a related note, we are

Isn't
that the solenoid that kicks the throttle open a little bit under a few
circumstances like 1) when the air conditioning is turned
on 2) when shutting the car off to avoid dieseling. The 400

like that on it, although my car did not have A/C.

Re: [Chevelle-List] 66 Chevelle SS frame question

2002-09-21 Thread Ted Scott

Larry, thanks for all the numbers. For the most part numbers by Paul Herd
matches the GM parts catalog I have but not 100%. You'll note a discrepancy
between Paul Herd and Hollander regarding 66 and 67 convertibles. I believe
Hollander is correct.
I've spent the last 2 years trying to find just the right frame to put under
my 64 convertible. Crawled under a lot of cars and checked frame part
numbers versus the GM book. So far it is bang on.
As I said originally the dimensions and mounting points are all the same
from 64 thru 67. The differences are the lack of a slight indent in 64 and
the different spring pocket in 67.
Convertibles and el caminos are boxed thru the center section and coupes and
station wagons are C shaped.
While the differences exist they do not preclude using any year frame under
any year body. Just change the springs if using a 67 under a 64 thru 66.
By the way, the part number is stamped in the left outside of the frame
ahead of the rear bumper bracket attaching slots. You'll also find the
manufacturer and date.
The difference in length of the coupe/convertible versus the station
wagon/el camino is 3.17 inches.
Ted

You can find the dimensions in any shop manual or factory assembly manual.
The 3.xx inches I referred to last night is expressed as 3.17 inches in some
diagrams and 3 3/16 in others

as you can see there are many differences between the two books. this was
the
first i heard about 64 being different than 65.i have done many chevelle
swaps over the years and take many things for granted. it seems many of the
ones they show not working will work will very little modifications it
really
wouldn't be very funny to have one all powder coated and ready to drop a
body
on it and find out it isn't the right one. back to the original question.
if
you cut close to 4 inches off that el camino frame it will work on the
chevelle.

Re: [Chevelle-List] 66 Chevelle SS frame question

2002-09-21 Thread Z16CHEVELLEGUY
Ted:
3.17 exactly? wow its finally nice to hear a true number. i have been told by many it was 4 inches. I'm in the process of buying either a convertible or el camino frame for my 65. i want the convert but damn they want 500 for it and i can pick up the el camino frame for a 100. my plans are to cut it and have it powered coated (customer owns a coating company) before swapping. do you think this is a bad idea? i really don't want to do a frame swap until its finished. do you know of anywhere that shows the exact measurements? in 1970 my buddy and i bought a wrecked el camino with bad frame damage. we had a 68 chevelle frame and we cut and spliced the frame where the frame rails turned in. i wonder if we wouldnt have been better off sectioning the back half of the elkie frame onto the chevelle frame?

Re: [Chevelle-List] New Chevelle club forming in South-West Ohio

2002-09-21 Thread Don

How bout Tri-State Chevelles?
Don

 Dwight,
I was wondering if we might get some Eastern Southern Indiana
interest and maybe some Northern Kentucky interest as well. Since Dayton
and Cinci are so close to the borders I can see where members of the
 tri-state area might be interested.

H might have to reconsider the boundaries as well as the name.
Any suggestions on how to include more guys like yourself and make them
 feel welcome?

  Steve
