Re: [Chevelle-List] Stereo question.
Bob, Steve, Brian, Thanks for the input. There's a Radio Shack close by work. I'll swing by there tomorrow and see if they have anything the will do the job. Also, the guy from the stereo shop called and his expert suggested I put a cap on the alternator (where the fans get power) that will shunt the excess power to ground. I doubt this stuff will be expensive so I can try both ideas. cYa- Herb - Original Message - From: Brian Zack To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Sent: Monday, October 07, 2002 7:18 AM Subject: RE: [Chevelle-List] Stereo question. Herbert, I don't think that it is your alternator, but your fans that are causing the problem. When electric fans start, they create a very large voltage spike, that can send feedback through your system. Using a high power amplifier and subwoofer can cause a pop or other noise. The solution is to isolate the fans from the rest of the electrical system with blocking diodes. Bob Walton MCC - Original Message - From: Herbert Lumpp To: Chevelle List Sent: Saturday, October 05, 2002 8:09 PM Subject: [Chevelle-List] Stereo question. Ok all you stereo gurus... Hopefully somebody can help, the guys at the local stereo store are stumped. If I have my stereo on (not loud but normal listening volume) and the electric fans kick on, I get a huge thump through the woofers. The alternator is a CS130 putting out 105 amps. The fans turn on/off with a thermo switch through a pair of relays. The sub amp is running 6 gauge power wire directly off the battery and the fans' main power feed off the alternator. It sounds to me like the fans are causing the alternator to suddenly put out some juice and the sudden power output is causing a surge through the system resulting in a huge thump through the woofers. Am I on the right track or way off base? (no pun intended) Will one of those big capacitors in the power line to the amp absorb the surge or do I need to try something else? Thanks. cYa- Herb Lumpp1966 El CaminoACES 3509, MCC 528http://users.adelphia.net/~hlump/

Hi Donnie, Sorry, but the answers are no (the windshield moldings are not the same) and yes (the rear window moldings are different). RE: [Chevelle-List] decode info
Someone told me once that they were substitution codes - either for unlisted upgrades or for special purpose equipment. I could be wrong about this, but I think the build tag was stamped from the order sheet BUT the guys on the plant floor routinely changed specific items on the car for many different reasons. For example, at Chrysler (my brother is a master electrician at a Chrysler plant) when they built a car for an employee, the employee would put the word out and the guys on the line would do assembly line "upgrades" to components like stereos, power seats, leather, A/C, etc., etc., yet the car would deliver to the dealer per the original order (i.e., the build sheet and window sticker would reflect what the guy ordered, not what was installed). I understand that they were still doing this up to as late as 1990 or so. After that the computer control is so pervasive that it is very hard to pull off because they account for every single part by bar code, etc. Everybody knew this went on, of course, but it was tolerated because, well, just because. Bill, I'm aware there are a lot of imposters running around out there. Before I went I checked out the VIN and it came back as a true SS. Believe me, I approached it with a cautious eye. [Chevelle-List] Alternator conversion
Ok, I upgraded my alternator on my 66 with a internal regulator and followed the instructions exactly from Chevelle Tech http://www.chevelles.com/techref/ftecref14.html now if I connect the idiot light wire to the alternator I cannot shut off the car. The alternator is charging ok, and the car runs just fine with the wire off, but I have no Gen idiot lighthmm..maybe it will not work because I'm not an idiot. Any suggestion from the Chevelle Gods?Could the ignition switch be bad? JB - To Unsubscribe please visit www.chevelles.net/list.html To start a new topic, send mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Value is subject to seller and buyer desires. Shopping around is the only way to be familiar to what is available and in what range. The following website allows you to put in a specific make, model, year, price range and sort capabilities. It's a bench mark and regular comparing develops what's available and at what price. It really comes down to what are you willing to pay for what condition. Re: [Chevelle-List] 68 Camaro
cause Camaro's are higher priced than a chevelle. and 68's are one of the most populars. if original motor and such, I figure that price is in a good range. well, think about it, what would a 1968 Chevelle SS ( well can't be a SS cause they didn't come with 327's.) or malibu with the original 327. i figure 6-8. camaros are more expensive, and then add the RS option.
