RE: [Chevelle-List] Intake manifold gasket sealant suggestions
Title: Message Well H, I've had problems with some leakage when I've tried using the rubber gaskets supplied with the manifold gasket set. I don't know if is because of the area at the corners where the rubber and gasket material meet in the corners and/or the rubber just does not stay in place very well while trying to mate the intake to the heads. I've just had better luck with the silicone versus the rubber gasket. John L. Re: [Chevelle-List] Aftermarket Air
Rich; I just went through this with my 71 w/fact air. It was not working so was going with Hot Rod Air out of Dallas. When I received it I did not like the quality. It was a generic system. Could not use any of the original air system. Sent it back. Have refurbished the original system and reinstalled it. I did want to get the evap off of the firewall, but since I have a nice built 350, doubt I'll ever go with a big block. I'm sure Vintage and others make a specific system for your 66. Here is a good article on a 64 install. http://www.chevelles.com/techref/tecref19.html Denny From: Richard Milkiewicz [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [Chevelle-List] Aftermarket Air Date: Sat, 4 Jan 2003 07:52:49 -0500 MessageIf you have an air car already, do you have to get rid of the original unit or do they make parts to keep the original look? [Chevelle-List] 15% off all Chevelle El Camino hoods for January
Hi all, I was just thinking that it would be good to offer a discount to the Chevelle list every month on certain items. So, to get things started, you can save 15% off all Chevelle El Camino hoods for the month of January by using the coupon code HOODS during checkout (you will get the usual 5% off plus an additional 10% off w/ the coupon code). You can find them all on the Chevelle Hoods Accessories page at: oldcarnetwork.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGYCategory_Code=Chevelle_H ood Of course hoods have to be shipped by truck freight, so anybody who is interested will have to approve a shipping quote (I'll get back to you with that) before the order is processed. As with all truck freight items you pay actual shipping (usually between $75 and $125), it is always less expensive to ship to a business, somebody will need to be there to receive the item and inspect it for shipping damage, any damage must be reported to the driver at the time of delivery, and no shipping damage claims will be accepted for any reason once the driver leaves. I'm also open to suggestions for future specials. I have a few ideas but would like to hear what you guys want/need the most. I'm trying to stick to items that will be of interest to the most people. [Chevelle-List] wheels and tires
OK everybody, I just spent an hour at Big-O Tires looking at something to put on my stock 14 SS rims. I'm sure you get this question all of the time, but what is the biggest tires you can run on stock rims for the front and back tires? The car is a 70 SS. By the way, what are a good brand of tires to use that will get some traction for those special occasions on the street and still have decent life? The guy behind the counter was trying to push BF Goodrich Radial TA's. I did like the square profile that you would see from behind the car. I am currently running General XP2000 P235x60xR14's and I hate them. The measure almost exactly 25 in outer diameter (too small and look like they belong on that green 65 on Ebay)-yuck. I like the old fashion look of a tire filling the wheel well (without rubbing or clearance problems, of course) The guy behind the counter (who only understands low profile import tires) thought I might like a set of P245x60xR14 BF Radial TA's. The outer diameter measures 25.6. Will this tire look that much bigger in the wheel well? I want to see as little inner fender well as possible. Any help before I go back to Big-O would be greatly appreciated. Kent, Sweet! I hope everything goes well for you. I've been debating getting a ZZ502 for my 55 Belair project because its a heavy car. Just wondering if it is worth getting for its bolt-on performance or if other members found it is better to just build up a 454. They sure seem like a great hi-performance base motor that will provide a lot of opportunities to build on (if 502 horses and 567 foot-pounds don't crack a smile ;-) ). I think it would work well with a Tremec TKO 5-speed and a F**D 9" with Currie 3.55 gearswith Mosier axles. -Original Message-From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Kent LewisSent: Saturday, January 04, 2003 1:27 PMTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]Subject: [Chevelle-List] Date: Sat, 4 Jan 2003 14:35:39 -0600 Steve, The car is not done yet, still building. Re: [Chevelle-List] wheels and tires
Steve (again), :) I'm running a set of 15X8 Corvette rally wheels (front and back) on my '68. The back will have the BF Goodrich Radial T/A 295/50/R15's which fill out the wheelwell very nicely. The front will be same tire in a 265/50/R15. Gives the car a nice rake to it. In the rear I was running a set of air bags to keep the car from squatting on the tires, due to an original and very used suspension. In the front, I had some of the screw in spring helpers (?) to keep the tires from rubbing. The BF Goodrich Radial T/A is a classy tire. It's the ONLY tire I will buy for my classic. Until I have the need for a set of slicks. :P Kent '68 Malibu ZZ502/502 ACES #5102 - To Unsubscribe please visit www.chevelles.net/list.html To start a new topic, send mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

RE: [Chevelle-List] wheels and tires
John, The BF Goodrich site doesn't list a P235x70Rx14. How old are your tires? If my monkey math serves me right, your sidewall height must be about 6.5 inches. Using the same math, a P245x60Rx14 would have a 5.8 inch sidewall. BF does list a P225x70Rx14 with an overall diameter of 26.5 inchesapproximately a 6.3 inch sidewall. I don't know if the 225's would look OK. I would think they would be a little thin from behind. Let me know if you can still get the 235x70's somewhere...they sound like a good overall size. The outer diameter measures 25.6. Will this tire look that much bigger in the wheel well? I want to see as little inner fender well as possible. Any help before I go back to Big-O would be greatly appreciated. P.S. anybody in the Phoenix area is invited to stop by the Nifty 50's restaurant/bar in Phoenix tonight for a car show/sock hop with my car club (Desert Classic Chevy's). It should be a blast! arrive before 5:30pm to beat the cover charge. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Re: [Chevelle-List] Headliner Material
Do you need cardboard or just the material. I have some extra material they send with new headliners( for sunvisors ). I would have to check to see if it would be enough to cover two sail panels. If you are interested in it justlet me know. RE: [Chevelle-List] Headliner Material
Hi Craig, Just an FYI, the new sail panel boards (we have lots in stock) do not come upholstered. When you buy a headliner, it comes with extra material for covering the sail panels sun visors. If you want to cover just the sail panels, you would have to buy some running yardage of the headliner material, or attach your existing material to the new boards. If you need new material, let me know and I'll see if I can order it for you on Monday. Sounds like you need new boards either way though. I'm honestly not sure how the clips are attached. Guys, On the 65 the clips just slid into the cutouts on the back of the sail panel. There is a little oval punched out of the cardboard, and the clip slips into it. I also was able to find the correct clips at a auto body supply storeTake it easy. [Chevelle-List] 64 Convertible question
My 64 Convertible has fabric that has fallen down between the trunk and the cabin of the car. Right now, the fabric is hanging down into the trunk area and you can see right into the trunk when looking over the back seat. Since this car is new to me, I don't know how it attaches to the car the correct way. Should there be some type of board under the fabric to make it sturdier or will this cause problems when the top is put down. I want to seal this opening back up to avoid any exhaust fumes that may seep into the trunk area and find its way into the cabin of the car. Can anyone tell me how this should be fixed? Thanks, Gary

RE: [Chevelle-List] 64 Convertible question
Hi Gary, The fabric piece you are talking about is called a well liner. It is supposed to be there, and it is not supposed to have any cardboard backing, but you are also not supposed to be able to see into the trunk. I'm honestly not sure how it is attached, but I would guess that this is one of those things covered by the Fisher Body Manual. The strangest part is that there is no T1004IN for 1965 that I know of. The closest thing I can find for 1965 is: T = Tonawanda 10 = October 04 = 4th IX = 396CID, 375HP, 11:1 CR, w/ 4bbl manual transmission. I cant find anything about any L's on the engine block. RE: [Chevelle-List] Can one of you smart guys answer this? plz
Also, for 1965: All Chevrolet engines are stamped with a plant code, production date, and engine type code. All 327 engines have the plant designation and production sequence (last six digits of the Vehicle Identification Number) stamped on the engine. So, it seems that where this guy is saying that the VIN code format is normally located only applies to 327s. This issue has been cussed and discussed alot over on Team Chevelle. I've been considering the merits of buying a crate BB or building my own 496". The latter idea is winning,at the moment. However,if I come into a lot of money by then (yeah, right),the crate engine might be the way to go. They sure seem like a great hi-performance base motor that will provide a lot of opportunities to build on (if 502 horses and 567 foot-pounds don't crack a smile ;-) ). Re: [Chevelle-List] 64 Convertible question
As usual Johns right. The only peice of wax/board is the seat back that screwed to a channel to the back of therear seat. The WELL LINER gets screwedto the metal that extends up from the floor and where the rear back seat attaches too. The side ans back of the liner are attacher to the rear bulk head and the inner out 1/4 panel area. They go behind the soft top fastner strip. Unless your familiar with the application, IMO this is a job for a interior shop.
