Re: [Chevelle-List] wanted 327
Hey Jason Are you still looking for a 327? I just was talking to a friend in Anaheim and his buddy happened to be there and he mentioned he had a 327 he wanted to part with. I think he said it ran fine and had about 40,000 miles on it I don't remember exactly. But if you want I will get some more info for you. RE: [Chevelle-List] REUNITING BODY TO FRAME
I am a PPG jobber. I sell DP primers all the time to customers doing restorations. The main reason I sell it is DP's moisture and corrosion resistant qualities. I disagree that it will eventually absorb moisture. If you read the technical bulletins, yes, it was designed to be top coated. In a real world situation though, it will outlive the restoration before it ever fails. It will also look better a year from now than it would with a flattened color coat. Actually, adding flattener to any paint makes the paint porous and shortens its life. The intent of the original question was whether the body needed to come back off the frame to be color coated. I would definitely not take it back off. There will be rust and corrosion showing up in other places long before the underside could ever become an issue. The only guarantee with a restoration is that something will pop up just about the time you believe you had the car finished. By the way if you use the DAR9000 black, use the PPG hardener as well with it and the durability will then be great!!!don't let them talk you into the generic har! dener with this paint. I would surely think any body shop would know that the DP product needs to be top coated!! in fact i was at a seminar that had a PPG rep at it who did not recommend this by itself- he said he had seen some street rods with it on, driving around in the weather and he cringed. the DP line has changed recently due to the EPA - It used to be DP40 (grey-green) DP90 (black) etc, now it is DP40LF which means lead free, and it also does not have the acid etch it used to have, i don't remember which one you said you used, but if it was the LF- the surface should have been etched with either a etch primer or a metal prep- wash (metal prep 79) unless it was just sandblasted within 72 hrs then the DP or DPLF can go right on with out the prep. - To Unsubscribe please visit www.chevelles.net/list.html To start a new topic, send mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Chevelle-List] Trunk of 65 Chevy Malibu
We are restoring a 65 Chevelle for the first time and the back end was rough. We have a few questions about the trunk area that we hope someone can help us with. 1. How and where is the trunk latch attached to the inside of the trunk? 2. Where and how is the spare tire tied down? 3. Does anyone have detailed directions for installing the gas tank, Braces and all? Can anyone recommend a place that will sell and install a gas tank with sending unit and how much is the going rate for this? Does not have to be original equipment. Braces and all. 4. Behind the rear tires there is a brace that we think is the body to frame brace. The part is attached to the frame, but nothing is attached to the body. We believe there is a round rubber donut that attaches between the two braces. Can someone tell us the names of these parts and where to purchase them, and how to install them? Any pictures of the trunk or underside of the trunk would be very helpful. Chris - To Unsubscribe please visit www.chevelles.net/list.html To start a new topic, send mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

RE: [Chevelle-List] REUNITING BODY TO FRAME
I would leave it alone. It will probably lose a little of the semi gloss luster after a while but it won’t be that noticeable. You don’t have to worry about moisture penetration. That’s the beauty of DP. I wouldn’t clear coat it because it would give it a “cheesy” appearance. Bill Vander Werf PS. I know Mopar guys who use DP90 on their exterior blackout areas because it matches the factory appearance. It even seems to hold its gloss on their hoods. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, March 25, 2003 8:38 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [Chevelle-List] REUNITING BODY TO FRAME So would you spray maybe a clear on top of the DP90, or just leave it alone? RE: [Chevelle-List] REUNITING BODY TO FRAME
I wouldn’t worry about a thing if I were you. DP90 is an epoxy primer that was designed to be top coated. However, it is a primer that is not porous. It won’t absorb moisture and allow rust to start. Anytime I strip a part it gets DP primer. You can leave the part in DP indefinitely until you can get around to finishing it. In fact, body filler adheres better to DP than it does to bare metal so DP goes down before bondo on my projects. Even though DP was not designed to be a stand alone product and it has no ultra violet screening agents it turns out that it holds up great in an under the car environment. I used it on my own car’s underside. Any suggestions on what to spray on top, let me just say the bottom of the car looks great, and very original. Joe 69 Chevelle
