There are ring and pinion gears, tail lights, chrome out the wazzu, 2 or 3 looks like later model GM El Camino Fenders, Some kinda
Oldsmobile full quarter panel, AC control heads, bumper guards, dash housings, all GM stuff in the factory boxes from the 70's to the mid 90's. Anybody interested I'll take 1000.00 dollars for the whole lot and I'm pretty sure theres probably over 10,000 dollars worth retail.

[Chevelle-List] FS - 1968 Ninety Eight convertible possibly 1969 El Camino

2003-06-08 Thread John Nasta
Hi all,

I am thinking about selling my Olds and maybe even the El Camino. After last
week's fiasco I think I want to take a break from it all.

The Olds:

10.25:1 455 w/ 4bbl has 20k on complete stock rebuild. +.010 crank, stock
pistons, original distributor, stock cam, original air cleaner in good cond.
About 3k miles on new transmission. Matching-numbers transmission needs work
but goes with the car. It's an excellent running car. I have driven it from
NY to North Carolina and back w/o any trouble. Master cylinder, all wheel
cylinders, all shocks springs have been replaced. Everything works except
the A/C. I get lots of compliments on it and people often ask me if I want
to sell it when they see it on the road. The paint job is decent driver
quality and the interior is good aside from the driver's seat. AM/FM stereo,
tilt/tele wheel, 6-way power seat (only works front to back), 15-inch wheels
w/ good condition OEM deluxe covers. New tires have only a couple-few
thousand miles on them. It was last aligned when I got the new tires.

I also have tons of NOS (including a door that is still in the GM box)
good used parts that will become available if the car sells.

I may also sell my 1969 El Camino, but I'd like to at least drive it a few
times first. I will probably replace the floorboards, but I don't have any
concrete plans. All trim weatherstrip is brand new. Paint is of course
brand new too. Looks pretty decent overall but has a couple of less than
desirable traits in the bodywork. Engine is freshly rebuilt (0 miles). TH350
in good working order. New shocks, springs, wheel cylinders wheel bearings
all around, and new Flowmaster exhaust system all have 0 miles on them.
Currently needs tires. Like I said, I'll probably want to drive this one
just a little so I can at least feel like I got the most expensive ride of
my life out of it.

Email me privately if interested in more details on either car.

Thanks,
John Nasta

[Chevelle-List] OT: 2002 Chev Truck problems

2003-06-08 Thread Michael Pell

I have a 2002 C1500 with the 5.3, 42k miles. Never had a lick of
problem until the last few weeks.
It's been stumbling when it first starts, usually worse when the engine
it has been run that day or the engine is warm.
It'll sput and sputter for about 5 seconds after it starts.

Last week I had the fuel system cleaned (rails/injectors), hoping for
simple dirty injectors, but it didn't help at all.

Yesterday, it wouldn't start at all. I think it's fuel related, and I
removed the fuel line from the output side of the fuel filter, turned on
the key, and verified the fuel pump is working to some extent. After
putting the fuel line back on, it started right up with no problems at
all.
And today it started right up again.

Any chance I'm lucky enough to have had a vapor lock of some kind in the
fuel lines and I magically fixed it? Yeah I know, I should be so lucky.

Has anyone had similar problems? Or any of you mechanics have a
suggestion or a solution for me?

Thanks,
Mike just out of warranty P.

Clint, that sure is a nice drawing of your elky. Did you meet up with
Herb at the HRPT stop there in Texas and get a look at his 66 elky and
his friend Mike's 65 red elky. Did Herb get his problem solved with his
tranny, he was having trouble with 5th 6th gears when he left New
Orleans on his way to Lake Charles LA. The tour stopped at a local
track, No Problem Raceway, were Herb ran down the track once. They also
have a road course that a couple of people did a couple of laps on it.
There was also a guy with a 70 elky that was also hanging around with
them, I think his name was Jim. He made a couple of passes down the
strip, 13's, and that is his tow truck for his race car. He also made a
couple of laps on the road course, he was really getting on it.

Yeah,I got to talk to Herb quite a bit and the other El Camino drivers
too,John. Herb didn't mention anything about any trans questions so maybe he
figured out the problem. Both Herb's 66 and Jim's 70 SS-454 El Camino

RE: [Chevelle-List] Rich Edelbrock Carb

2003-06-08 Thread Tom Tomlinson
Just to follow up on the thread.

I found the problem with start-up after the engine mods on my '71 350
Malibu.

I mis-wired #6 and #8 (switched). Runs great now.

For those interested in what I experienced in tuning the Edelbrock 1405
carb, read-on.

The setup in the car is now:

Edelbrock 2701 intake
Edelbrock 1405 carb
Non-stock cam, but doesn't appear too radical
Sanderson headers
Flowmaster exhaust, 50 series mufflers

I installed an O2 sensor to help with tuning, read with a voltmeter. I'm
using the timed advanced port, on the left as you face the front of the
carb.

Out of the box, the O2 sensor read rich (900mv) during both cruise and
power operation. I recalibrated two stages leaner in power, and two stanges
leaner in cruise. The O2 sensor still read rich during power (800 mv), but
cruise read lean (.100 mv). At first I thought the O2 sensor was reading
wrong, but there was some hesitation at certain speeds, so I figured it must
be lean. I then went 1 stage richer in cruise. The O2 sensor read between
600mv and 900mv; still a little rich, but not bad. The power operation was
still rich, but with the 1479 calibration kit, I can't lean it out any more.
But the car runs great; no hesitation anywhere, so I'm leaving it there for
now. I'm hoping an ignition upgrade will lean it out a little more.

Conclusions:

The O2 sensor was a big help in dialing in the carb quickly. Getting an
ideal A/F mixture of 14.7 (~500 mv) is very hard; it lies between two stages
in the Edelbrock calibration in my setup. The Flowmasters sound nice; quiet
when you are off the gas, and not too loud when you tromp on it. My only
complaint is that there is a resonance at 3000 RPM that is too loud for me,
especially since that's the RPM thats around 55mph. But it great to have it
back on the road after a long winter.

Tom,
I would separate 5 and 7 by running the #3 wire between them and then
angle the ends away from each other at slight angles to separate them at
the distributor cap. I'm afraid it's not as pretty a setup but if
crossfire is a problem it will solve it.

As far as the distributor being a tooth off; I'm a weirdo about that
kind of stuff and would fix it. However, if you can set the timing where
it needs to be the way it is it isn't necessary to change it.

Wow, learn something new everyday.

Now that I've read up on this cross-fire problem, it could very well be
my
problem. I'll look into the cap as well as separate the wires better.

Also, did anyone who looked at the close-up picture of my engine wiring
see
anything funny about the distributor? After I cut the wires, I noticed
that
my vacuum advance horn was pointing toward the front of the car, not the
#4
cylinder like most small blocks. The previous owner put the distributor
in
one cylinder off. It runs ok, but the vacuum advance horn is shoved up
against one of the manifold runners, making it a tight fit. The more I
go
through this car, the more odd things I find about the engine set up.
Of
course if I try to set the distributor to the usual location, some of
the
plug wires will be a little off.

Oh well, live and learn.

Tom

  Bill:
The car is not nearby, but the pictures I took of the engine show
that
#5
and #7 are close to each other in the wire loom, then cross near the
cap.
How far apart should they be? Would the spacing of a typical wire
loom
be
enough, or should there be at least a wire in between?

If you want to see a picture of the set up you can go to:

  http://www.eagleshore.com/bear/engine-left-close.jpg

RE: [Chevelle-List] OT: 2002 Chev Truck problems

2003-06-08 Thread Cecil \Steve\ Martin

I have been having similar problems with my 95 Astro Van. Changing the fuel
filter helped a bit, but still not solved. The mechanic wasn't sure if it
was the fuel pump or something about some device that distributes the fuel
to the injectors leaking into the intake or something like that. Neither one
is a cheap fix.

Try turning the key to on and leaving it there for about 10 seconds before
starting. Also try running premium gas and more fuel injector cleaner.

How long has it been since you had a major tune up like plugs, cap,
wires, rotor ?
