RE: [Chevelle-list] cal car covers
I sent this message earlier, but it did not seem to go through. IIRC the description of the "Noah" said that it was ideal for hot dry climates. That is why I was considering the Stormweave. My climate is neither hot nor dry. John Nasta -Original Message- I put a brand new Wolf/Noah cover on my 64 GTO over the weekend. Herb and I pulled it off on Sat. after a rain Friday night and the car was very wet. I have one for my Elky also. I have to agree with Herb that they do well for keeping the car clean, but rain is gonna go right thru it. Mike Holleman
Re: [Chevelle-list] Need help with brake part identification
Another thing this does is it tells you when your shoes or pads are getting worn. Like if the back shoes are getting bad and your pedal has to move more fluid to make the shoes contact the drums, then the piston will move in the bore more than normal and cause the electrical contacts to make and turn on the brake light. This can be temporarily fixed by adjusting your brake shoes if there is enough shoe left to still stop you safely. If not then new shoes will fix you up nicely and turn off the light. Re: [Chevelle-list] cal car covers
I don't get it. My Noah covers have filled up like a pool and didn't let any water through. They also breathe to let water vapor escape. Maybe it is a bad seam that leaks, I don't know, but I've had these covers for 5 years and never had standing water under them on the vehicle. Just me 2 cents. One kit does both horns, they give you a high & low tone diaphragm. It took about two hours, the only tools I used were a drill & bits, a punch, a vise to squeeze the rivets (which will also make the checkerboard pattern on the rivets), an ohmmeter to check the coils & contact points, and the supplied file to clean the points. It took about two hours, and now my hooters are hooting again. :-))) I'll need to bead blast & paint them & I'll be done. BL

[Chevelle-list] TurkeyFest in Daytona
Just returned from Daytona after 4 days of looking at cars and parts. It was a great show again this year. Weather was in the 80's Thursday & Friday then dropped to low 60's on Saturday. Sun was out so it didn't dampen our sprits or keep us inside. I'm sure that a lot of the country would have liked to see low 60's on Saturday. If you have never been to Turkey Fest at the Speedway in Daytona you should make every attempt to visit at least once in your lifetime. They were advertizing 6,000 registered cars and 4,200 vendors this year. I like this show because all the cars are centered around one place, the speedway. Bob Haggard Eatonton, Ga.
Re: [Chevelle-list] Another wiring question
Since there is no tranny support to keep the motor's oil pan from sitting on the cross frame, I was going to put a few blocks of wood to keep it more level. Unless the wood is secured, it'll probably shake out & fall over. Here is what I know: The battery cable goes to the big terminal on the starter. There are two connections on the starter. The S terminal is what engages the solenoid to engage the starter-the other is 12v in start to the coil. The distributor (Mallory HEI) needs hookup. If it's HEI, then all you need is 12v to the BAT (or +) terminal --make it switched so you can turn the motor off. So, with the above, Does the distributor(+) get hooked up to the smaller terminal on the starter? Nope The two ends of the push button starter switch gets hooked to the two terminals on the starter? Hook one end to the battery + and one end to the S terminal Do I need the alternator hooked up for a few minute run? Nope BL

The warning light will come on when there is a loss of pressure in the brake system, like when the pedal goes to the floor. It tells you something is wrong. I just had this happen recently in our 69 Cutlass. Pressure was escaping through the brake hose because it was not tight enough. Tom
Re: [Chevelle-list] cal car covers
I have a Cal Car Cover, the NOAH materialI am really happy with it. I use to park my car outside, and so I got that to protect it...But its in a garage now, and that was a couple years ago it was outside. But from what I remember, it was water resistantI took a hose to it, to clean it and test it, and it will soak through, give it some time, and it will soak through. But me living in Southern California, rain isnt a big concern. I still use it for dust and just genereal protection. Also, It blocks all UV A and some other rays...which is pretty important for me, here...lots of sun. Anyways, just my two cents. Oh and the fit is perfect. -Tim

[Chevelle-list] Need help with brake part identification
Hi Folks, http://www.projectchevelle.com/miscImages/11_30_03_misc-brake.jpg I am not too sure of what this part does; it looks like it has a terminal on the top of it ... Could that be where the brake level warning light connects to? Is that also a proportioning or combination valve? And if it is, would it be on a car with all four drums? Was there such an option as power drums? Thanks!! -Graham.
[Chevelle-list] Another wiring question
Hi guys and girls, I finally put the motor in the car on Friday; perfect 'the-day-after-thanksgiving-activity'. http://www.projectchevelle.com/?page=current After two years of it being built, I am kind of anxious of starting it up. Since there is no tranny support to keep the motor's oil pan from sitting on the cross frame, I was going to put a few blocks of wood to keep it more level. I have all the wiring out of the engine compartment and dash, so I am thinking about using a quick little setup with a battery hooked to the starter and using a push button starter switch. Here is what I know: The battery cable goes to the big terminal on the starter. There are two connections on the starter. The distributor (Mallory HEI) needs hookup. So, with the above, Does the distributor(+) get hooked up to the smaller terminal on the starter? The two ends of the push button starter switch gets hooked to the two terminals on the starter? Do I need the alternator hooked up for a few minute run? There is obviously other items (like cooling) besides electrical, but I think I got those covered; it's just the wiring is where I am second guessing myself. Thanks in advance!!! -Graham.
RE: [Chevelle-list] cal car covers
IIRC, the cal car cover web site said that the Noah cover is best for hot dry climates. That's why I was thinking about getting the Stormweave. John Nasta

Dang. .Herb.. I have two Noah covers with Kimberley Clark three layer meterial... thay do what they claim. .and mine keep the car dry when it's raining.. it also breaths like Tyvac metrail wicking moisture one way out ( away from the car ) so you don't have the tarrarium effect underneath the cover... RE: [Chevelle-list] cal car covers
Hi John, I have a Wolf brand cover made from Kimberly Clark Evolution IV material. The manufacture claims it's a one way door for water/moisture meaning water will evaporate from under it but will not soak through it. All I can say is they are full of crap. Don't get me wrong, the covers are nice and will protect from sun, air borne debri, bird droppings, tree sap, morning dew, etc., but they will NOT keep your car dry if it rains. The rain will soak through just as easy as if you had a bath towel on your car. If you're hoping the covers will protect from snow and ice, they probably will - to a point - but don't expect the cars to stay dry while under the cover. You may be better off investing in an awning for the cars outside. BTW, my cover cost $150.00 and came with a storage bag. It was a gift and I think it came from either NPD or OPG. I hope you had a nice holiday (or a nice day if you are not an American). I am considering buying 3 California car covers for my cars. I'm thinking Stormweave based on description, price and warranty. One car will be in a garage, but the roof leaks a bit. The other two will be outside all winter. Any feedback good or bad? Any recommendations on which is the best? Thanks, John Nasta

I hope to hook up with the tour in St. Louis on the 8th and go with them to Chicago since I live here in Illinois. Do you know where the stop is in St. Louis that a guy could hook up with them?
