Re: [Chevelle-list] Favorite Muffler System?
Are you after sound or performance? Loud doesn't always equal good... A very popular setup is a 2.5 system with the x-style crossover and Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers. Muffler testing by Jim and Tom Hand has shown that Pontiacs perform extremely well with the Super Turbos. I can't answer your question about headers but I can forward it to some people who can... Brad O. My dad has a 1969 GTO with a 400 that has a mild cam in it. Him and I were wondering which kinds of headers and mufflers sound real good on that car? Chad
Re: [Chevelle-list] New engine?
I have a 383 motor we built up and I chose to send my Quadrajet to the carburetor shop in California. They wanted to know the weight of my truck, the rear gear, transmission, displacement and the Cam details. Can't remember if they wanted to know about the Heads but they are big valve World Products units with porting. Customization was a great solution for me. Hope this helps . Re: [Chevelle-list] Stereo Wiring
Try going to the manufacturer of the stereo equipment on the web. Many if not all have the owners manual on theirweb site that you can download an print. Just print the pages you need as these can be pretty big. You may have to search for awhile but I'm sure you'll find it. I have not heard anything good about the quality of the speakers in the kick panels. The panels I heard fit good. There are wires going everywhere, at least one of the wires has three splices and four splits. Not sure why this was done but I am planning on changing it. These wires (some big, some small) are all running along the passenger side under the door sill plate. All my other wires running to the back are in the factory spot (running through some flat rubber runner) going front to back in the middle of the drivers side. Should I route all my wires through that? I think I will just mount the amp in the back, not sure why it was mounted up front to begin with. RE: [Chevelle-list] Stereo Wiring
Running the speaker wires down the pass side keeps them away from the power wires that run through the factory harness. The power wire (fuzed!) should run along the driver side away from the speaker wire too. Doing this helps keep the whining noise out of the stereo. It's not a requirement, but can definitely prevent future headaches! - James --- Mike Sanders [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Fuses in general should be placed as close to the power source as possible. I've always just gone the path of easiest-installation. Damon, can you elaborate a little on the passenger side thing? The amp should have a main power input (from the battery) a ground, and a remote-power-on lead. There should be a corresponding power lead from your head unit. (or a lead meant for a power antenna). It's basically a relay -- a low-power signal from the head unit to turn the amp on, so that you're not directly switching the main power, which would require a heavy-duty switch. If the previous owner's amp was powering 4 speakers, putting it under the passenger seat might not be a bad choice, since wires would have to be run back to the front for the front speakers, and also shorten the length of the main power lead and also the RCA cables with the pre-amp signal. It might not be the best place for airflow to keep the amp cool, though. I bought one, two weeks ago. Had my machinist put a mic to it last week and it measured fine. I ordered 2 more for me and 3 for him last Monday and got them Thursday. These five also measured just fine. They are indeed 3856223 forged steel GM cranks and are brand new. For $99.95 shipping included they are a steal. Sent one with a guy to swap meet in St. Louis last weekend and got $225 for it. He said he could have sold another one for that if he had it :) Trooper - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, April 19, 2004 5:29 PM Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] Big block crank Hey Guys, I ordered one of those cranks from Howards. [Chevelle-list] Vinyl repair?
Just got my seats back from the uphostery shop again after returning them once because they didn't look correct.(lopsided, and listing were not pulled down near tight enough). I'm very pleased with the seats now except one thing. Where the bracket behind the seat back is attached to hold the sheet metal onto the seat. They cut a sqaure hole out to find the screw holes. Now the bracket doesn't conseal the square hole. The sheetmetal should cover this area but,I'm fearfull the vinyl will start to tear from that area in time. What to do.. Any ideas?
RE: [Chevelle-list] Stereo Wiring
I wouldn't recomend buying a second factory wire harness to use because the wire used for power is not good for audio. It would not sound as good. Depends on how high-end your system is going to be though I guess. Doubt you will be able to find a factory style runner unless you have one custom manufactured, but you could make something that will work just as well. You could run two pair of flat speaker wire like monster cable or Rockford Fosgate, they cut the width in about half so it's less noticeable. ((But if you want to really flat, try DeCorp http://www.decorp.com/product/audio.htm I have no idea how well it would hold up in an auto environment, but it's pretty cool wire either way.)) Personally, I have never had any problems running two pair right along the door under the carpet. Just make sure it is secured around where the seat bolts in to keep it from shifting and rubbing. Good luck! - James --- Crazy Rusty [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Has anyone found a place to get that factory runner?
