Re: [Chevelle-list] It
Well said Clint! Ciao André I pulled my El Camino out of storage and drove it around, yesterday. It's been covered up in the garage since last October as battling my illness kinda took precedent. My cancer seems to be in remission now so it seemed like the right time to get it out and start enjoying it again. Man,it felt good to be rowing the 6spd down the road. Life is short, guys gals. Enjoy it while you can. Clint Hooper HH Custom, owner LT5 Registry Director http://www.LT5Registry.net/ ACES #1650 http://dalesplace.com/misc/friends/clint/clint_hooper.htm

You are so wrong that there is no Posi gear lube. It has been on the market for about 15 to 20 years. Standard oil markets it, Quaker state markets it, and GM markets it in 1-quart containers. GM part # 1052271 80W-90 Rear axle lube. GM part # 1052358 Limited slip differential lube additive. The additive is used with the rear axle lube is severe cases where the stick slip symptom is heard. Quaker state weight of the lube is 75-90 and is green is color. Brown or dark brown color means that the fluid is burnt and needs changing, as it can no longer provide adequate lubrication for the bearings or gears. You need to change the rear fluid, and then find parking lot where you can drive in figure 8 patterns for about 10 to 20 times. This will work the new fluid into the clutch and disk plate in the posi. You may need to change the fluid again and repeat above after 500 miles. Good luck. Checked my posi rear end fluid level - it was fine as some seeped out when the plug was removed. The color was a very dark brown - is this a normal color for posi rear end lube. Everything else appears to work fine. May be I am just used to standard gear lube being light colored. Krister Meister Bloomingdale, IL '66 #'s matching

[Chevelle-list] Diff Cover and Wheel Hub torque ?'s
I have looked through my '66 Assembly Manual and '66 Service Manual and could find the following information: What is the torque on the front wheel hub nut? It can't be much as it came off the spindle with little force. Does the Differential Cover bolts have any torque spec and any tightening down bolt sequence? Thank you, Krister Meister Bloomingdale, IL '66 SS #'s matching

Re: [Chevelle-list] Diff Cover and Wheel Hub torque ?'s
What is the torque on the front wheel hub nut? It can't be much as it came off the spindle with little force. Take a pair of channel lock pliers and while spinning the hub, tighten the nut fairly snug to seat the bearings. Then back the nut off, tighten it finger tight insert the cotter pin in the hole. If the hole doesn't line up, the back the nut off until it does. If it's tight it'll burn up the bearing. If you want the exact directions from Chevy--while rotating wheel, tighten spindle nut to 12 ft lbs. Back off the nut one flat insert cotter pin. If slot pin don't line up, back off the nut an additional 1/2 flat or less as required to insert the cotter pin. Does the Differential Cover bolts have any torque spec and any tightening down bolt sequence? It probably does, but no one uses it. Just tighten them like and other 1/2 bolt. Make up your own sequence, it won't matter.\ BL
Re: [Chevelle-list] Diff Cover and Wheel Hub torque ?'s
The front hub does not get torqued. You have to feel the resistance of the spinning wheel while you tighten itm just don't overdo it or you will end up with bearing/hub faillure. Tom
RE: [Chevelle-list] fuel gauge
thanks for the help Don 65 conv. [Original Message] From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Chevelle-list [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: 5/11/2004 6:35:31 AM Subject: RE: [Chevelle-list] fuel gauge Dave, I think you need a new sender (or gauge). If it was to change from 90 to 240 straight you could just put a 150ohm resistor inline and be done. But since you want a scale (std chevy being 0 to 90 ohms) that would make it go from 150-240ohms instead. I dont know how much the bottom scale on that 240ohm gauge is but its either 0 or like 30 or so if i remember well. The sweep of the gauge would therefore be from approx. half tank (when tank is empty) to full tank (when tank is full) Ciao André i ohms = resistance. You should be able to add a resistor inline, I would think. I have no idea which one or what size, though. -Dave -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Don CHESSER Sent: Monday, May 10, 2004 6:39 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Chevelle-list] fuel gauge could some one tell me how to change ny fuel sending unit ohms from 90 to 240 thanks if not possible please tell me . thanks

That is amazingly cheap. It's about what I pay for them wholesale. Not sure how they do it, but at that price, snap those babies up.
