HAHA I told Heidi that she is all the car guys favorite now and she said (as a 
joke
I hope)that she would exchange me for a guy with a nicer car anytime...

I know there are some problems with that part, and I cant understand how to fix 
it,
there are also some problmes with the link bars not showing ?? and my computer 
geek
buddy is on easter holiday.

I'm happy with my life, job pays the bills and the holidays and the beers soo 
its good.

anything was an option, heck you could have those SS BandAid stripes on the 
hood and decklid if you wanted, and i did read an area the book that said

Greetings all.  Ok, I have some new bucket seats, the
Pro-Car seats from Summit. Also ordered are the slide
rail bases. The mounting holes are fairly close on the
outside holes from my old bench. What would anyone
recommend about bolts sizes and perhaps installing a
flat 4 square sheet metal support piece on the under
side of the floor holes? 

I am interesed also in something more than lap belts.
Can I, or anyone, buy and properly mount a seat belt
harness without a roll cage? What are best lines of
thought to putting a good quality mounting system
together?

We have been talking quite a bit about those seats over on Pro-Touring.com
and I've been seriously considering a pair for my El Camino. The only reason
I haven't bought them already is their height (37.5) concerns me so I'm
waiting to see a pair in an A-body first.  Congrats,,looks like you're the
guinea pig. g Please take some photos as you go along.
As for using five point harnesses without a rollbar's support,that's not
really safe as I understand it. Some have done it,though. How far away is
Valley View from Wichita Falls? I've got a local chassis builder that will
install a chromoly four point bar for $275 and a six point for $375. That's
too cheap to ignore.

   I'd use something a liitle stouter than sheetmetal to reinforce the
floor bolts.   You don't want the seat pulling loose in an accident.  
I used 1/8 inch L-Bracket that spanned the distance between both rear
bolts.I used one original bolt hole in front  then another piece
of 1/8 flat stock for the other front bolt.

Standard in 70-72 SS was the ROUND gauge setup.   Standard round gauge
package cam with warning lites, optional was the round gauge package
with real gauges.
The round gauge setup was an OPTION in chevelles/malibus for
70-72.Although very few people (comparatively) ordered the
optional  (round) gauge package with a malibu/chevelle.

I recently purchased a one piece replacement floor from NPD. The floor had 
what appeared to be 1/8 thick strip  about 3 wide, going from front bolt 
to rear bolt welded to the floor, with the bolts coming through this 1/8 
strip of metal, threads up.

fast440.com)  ( the new misses wanted a vette and the Chevelle's wrench that

built the Gen 6 moved away anyhow ) but something else is bound to show up 
in my garage soon.  Another Chevelle,  another tri-5 or maybe earlier iron 
like a chopped Merc.  Kinda open.  Still gotta get a T bucket before I die. 
Always wanted to drive down the road in a T listening to the Ventures play 
walk don't run.  Early childhood fantasy.

Are these the Scat (http://www.procarbyscat.com/) seats?  I've had a set in
my Chevelle for about ten years.  A buddy had the deep bucket (Rally
series?) in his Camaro and they were great for long trips, but definitely
harder to get in and out of the car.  Great support and great for hard
driving, but not so easy for daily use and dating.  I have one similar to
the Elite series (black vinyl with a grey velour insert) in my Chevelle.
Support is still good, although you do have to hand on a bit more since
lateral support is not as good.  I have also used these seats on long drives
with no complaints.

I'll look to see if I have interior pictures I can post, but you can see the
headrests in some of the exterior pictures here:
http://epage.com/brad/Chevelle/v45/v45.html.  Ignore the tall hump in the
rear, that is the child seat for my daughter.

I had to fabricate mounts for them, as they did not have '67 Chevelle
adapters then.  I bought a close match and then had them cut and welded to
the right locations.  The stock seat mounting points should be reinforced
already, but it can't hurt to use a large washer (they sell them for
mounting harnesses) or 4 plate of 1/8 inch steel.

As for mounting a harness without a cage, you can do it.  I talked with Fred
Crow (http://crowenterprizes.com/).   I have a long 3 Y harness mounted
to the rear seat belt bolts that threads through the headrest supports and a
standard 3 harness for the lap belt using factory seat belt bolts.  I also
have the 2 anti-submarine belt, but I have not installed it.  You don't
need a reinforcement for that belt because it is there to keep the lap belt
from coming up, it is not supposed to take the force of impact and hold your
weight.

For my daughter's car seat, I used a 2 sand car belt
(http://crowenterprizes.com/2X2-DUNE-AUTO-BUCKLE.html) and had them
fabricate the Y harness with a clip and then used the eye bolt and washer
(http://crowenterprizes.com/mountinghardware.html) to mount the belt.

You may not be able to do that in an Elky since there may not be a place to
mount the shoulder portion, but in a Chevelle, you can use the rear seat
belt mounts for the shoulder portion as long as you have a seat that they
can work with.  You can't do this with a seat where the belts could slip
down or if the seat back is much lower than your shoulders.  See their page

.  W is for 454 and the only 72 chevelle to get the 454 was the SS.

can count,over thirty Corvettes,a few streetrods,and a half dozen El
Caminos. An El Camino has been part of my life in some shape or fashion for
over forty years. We owned our 68 for thirty two years and selling it in May
2000 was really hard. Heck,I think I'll just keep my 69 till the day they
put me in the ground.

Thanks for the feedback.  Kinda hate to see it go.  The vette dealer asked 
how I liked the 300 horses in the vette.  He looked surprised when I told 
him it was a letdown after 600 in the Chevelle.  Had only put about 300 easy 
miles on the Gen6 and it wanted to be turned loose.  Guess I should have. 
I'm kinda at the point where it's not what ya do but how ya look while 
you're doing it so I will probably mild 350 crate the next ride and just 
profile.  Love Mercs with mail box slot windows.  Actually as long as its 
old and I could have not bought one new at the time ( I'm 58 so I could have 
bought a Chevelle new.)  then I'm into it.  Might just get another Chevelle. 
There is one around the corner that is very very slick - 66 with custom 
frame LS1, really pro touring and expensive.  Very sweet with the right look 
but 50 large generates a large sucking sound in my accounts.  But I think 
the 50 is fishing. They are into high buck cars and looking for a whale.

So far I've managed to miss it.
Might be educational seeing a frame off on a Chevelle wagon.
But if it's another show like Coddington's I'll probably not bother watching.

parts are from?  I've had to order a switch twice now,
b/c both times I ordered for a '66 Chevelle, but got
something slightly different than what I have.

There is an article about this in the current Super Chevy.  Apparently
they're going to devote an entire season to the building of this car.  The
idea is to show what really goes into this type of project instead of
showing just a couple quick glimpses and then voila there's a new hot rod in
60 minutes.  It might actually be worth watching.

[Chevelle-list] Carpet Cleaners

Well I searched through my year of Chevelle list e-mails and
couldnt find anything about carpet cleaning so.



Anyone have any suggestions for getting out dug in dirt and
filfth? Ive tried two things from the auto store with no luck. They
work ok with the seats but not with the carpet. I just tried oxyclean which
worked great with the seats but once again did nothing to the carpet.



Any Ideas?

The absolute best thing I have found, is to remove 
the carpet and pressure wash with a small pressure washer (1000 psi). I realize 
this is kind of extreme but you will be AMAZED at what will run out of that 
carpet, even from the places that you thought were clean! I bought a car once 
from a smoker, the car looked as clean as it could be, BUT it had the stale 
smoke smell. I removed the seats and carpet and pressure washed them, the water 
drained dark brown.
All of these carpet cleaning products say that that 
"lift" the dirt out of the carpet where it can be vacuumed away (?) I just don't 
see how that is possible. Every time I have tried them it has appeared that I 
was just grinding the dirt in further.

My GM parts book shows the 5957063 (group 2.895) as 64-66 Chevelle (exc.
Tilt wheel) and 66 Chevy (Nova type) but I think that's listed as PLATE,
actuating ($0.97) according to the book.  The actual switch is shown as
387115 at $10.00.

Don't find the other number, 386780, but that's not unusual as numbers
change all the time.  Book says 64-66 Chevelle (exc. Tilt wheel) cam is
382931 (group 2.896) ($0.56).

All prices are 1972 of course :*)
