Re: [Chevelle-list] question on '67 rear
Jim, It will be a direct bolt in... and you will not need the spring cups to bolt down the bottom of the springs to the rear they will just sit right on top of the perches. Donnie
[Chevelle-list] question on '67 rear
I have someone offering up a rear out of a '67 El Camino that I can buy for my '66. I've asked for pics, but can anyone confirm whether it bolts right into my '66, or if I have to move the spring seats? Thanks, Jim Start your day with Yahoo! - make it your home page http://www.yahoo.com/r/hs
RE: [Chevelle-list] suggestions on a 12 bolt
I guess I'll throw in my experience about aftermarket rears... About two years ago I ordered a complete Currie 9" and like Ron mentioned below, I too got carried away while ordering. The entire rear including shipping ended up costing $3600. Even though it cost a lot, I can't complain because it has been one of the few bolt it in and forget items I've bought. It quietly does its thing with no fuss. I wish I could say that for every part on my El but we all know how that goes! I'm planning to install my Moser this weekend. Nothing cheap about it - plus I got carried away as I was ordering... Don't forget about the shipping either. Moser sends them with the shipping COD. Had to warn the wife about that $225 bill before it was a surprise :-) -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of mike f Sent: Tuesday, August 09, 2005 6:50 PM To: The Chevelle Mailing List Subject: RE: [Chevelle-list] suggestions on a 12 bolt I guess maybe the best question to start in these situations is to ask, How much money can you afford? I did the Mosser 12 bolt thing. Got the differential and spline count I wanted with late model Chevrolet flanges. I think the old style brake kits, if this is a consideration at the moment, are cheaper than a junkyard or new 93-up rear disc setup. RE: [Chevelle-list] Spark plug wrench?
Pelle, It depends on which size plug your heads use. A lot of the older head designs use a 13/16 plug while the newer heads use a 5/8 plug. If you can afford a Moser or Currie 12 bolt, you can also afford one of their bolt-in Ford 9" units. There's huge aftermarket support for the 9" and more gear ratios & options are available. I'm running a Chris Alston Fab 9 rear in my 69 Elky with Moser 31 spline axles,Detroit Locker diff,Motive Gear 4.11 gearset, and Baer 12" disc brakes. Re: SV: [Chevelle-list] suggestions on a 12 bolt
That was my thoughts. I upgreded to 33 spline and that will handle any performance this fellow can afford. Also, there was a point about the Mosser upper control arm flange casting. They sell some anti-hop brackets for the factory 12 bolt. This seems to be eliminated with Mosser caseing as they raise the upper mount point which help with hopping. I think that was the way it was, I could be wrong. mike --- Rick Schaefer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Higher spline count = greater strength. Higher spline count = greater strength. With finer (higher count0 splines you have more contact area. Probably more to it than that, but thats all that I THINK I know about the subject. Mike, I missed the last part of your post before. www.kugelkomponents.com has a column shift conversion that will link up your shifter to the 700. Re: [Chevelle-list] Small block questions
Bowtie Overdrives sells an excellent bracket for the TV cable. I think you will probably have to switch to a newer throttle linkage. For a four wheel disc set-up,a lot of people use Wilwood's adjustable proportioning valve. What master cylinder are you using? When I switched my 68 El Camino from PG to 700R4,my trans shop had to modify the stock linkage. 1968 and earlier utilized a short water pump. Mike, As for the TV/throttle cable hookup, go to www.bowtieoverdrives.com. They have a TV system for your 700 that works real well. You may also get answers to other questions on that site.
