Re: [Chevelle-list] Octane (OT)

2005-09-16 Thread Brian Knight
I was considering putting some vortec heads on this motor. If I do, what can
I use to clean the pistons without hurting them while the head is off?

Thanks, Brian

Half and half mix kerosene and 30wt motor oil, down carb each spring, keeps
everything clean. Used this on farm and never had problem with carbon. I
have seen a few 87 350's with this problem in my shop and fixed all of them
with the above brew, cheaper then the store bought stuff. Not sure why the
87 models really had this problem.

Way back when, we used to pour a small amount of auto trans fluid down
the
throat of the carb. Might have been an old wife's tale but it sure
created a

large plume of blue smoke!

I have this problem (pinging) on my '98 Jeep with a fuel injected 4.0L.
Is there a way to clean piston tops for fuel injected engines?

Does anybody know the number of the fuse for the dash instrument lights? It's the short fuse all the way on the bottom of the 1969 fuse block. I am
guessing SFE-4 because that's what my 1968 Olds called for and the El Caminofuse block does indicate that it should be a 4A fuse. I have a AGW-5 herebut it seems too long to fit into the spot (even though it's shorter than my

What? Nobody on this list should let carbon build up in their motors.
Get on it! If not - there must an additive for the fuel system that
will remove carbon.
