Re: [Chevelle-list] retiring the el camino?

2006-01-31 Thread John Nasta
Just remember that with a 1968 hood you have to use 1968 hinges. The
reproduction 68-69 hoods use 1969 hinges but otherwise fit a '68 just as
well.

1970 was the first year that the El Camino used different fenders than the
Chevelle & Malibu. The reason is that the 68-72 El Caminos all use the same
doors & quarter panels, and the 70-72 Chevelle has a bodyline that runs from
the fender, through the door and into the quarter panel. The 70-72 El Camino
fenders don't have the bodyline so that they will match up to the 68-72
doors & quarters. Likewise, the Chevelle fender extensions have an
indentation in the side that the E.C. extensions don't have.

OER is basically Classic Industries (also the same
family that owns OPG). Generally everything I have seen from OER is good quality.
I didn’t know they were selling weatherstrips under their own brand name. Even
OPG sells Soffseal & AMM (which are also owned by the same people, but not
the same people as OPG/OER/CI).

I had that same question in the mid 70's when I was an electronics tech
school student. I wanted to
make my parking lights stay on. So on my '65 I removed the headlight
switch to see what I could do.
I noticed a small brass shorting bar on the switch's pins. After poking
around with a meter I found
that I could move a lug in the connector to the pin over the shorting
bar. It took working the lug out
of the connector with a paper clip and putting it back in the right
hole. I added those amber bulbs
to the front and my parking lights have come on with the headlights for
years.

Nothing "comes on by themselves" _you_ have to move the switch to the

2006-01-31 Thread rmpvsp
Title: FW: eSecurity Advisory: Blackmal Email Worm

Big FYI.
Rich, just a warning about attachments and a virus below, a nasty worm to be aware of….read on __ From:   Herron Jim W. (DTI)  Sent:   Tuesday, January 31, 2006 12:44 PM To: State Network Administrators; '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject:    eSecurity Advisory: Blackmal Email Worm
A new variant of an old worm is scheduled to be released this Friday, February 3. The W32.Blackmal.E worm, initially released on Jan. 17, is programmed to implement a very destructive routine that repeats on the third day of each month. The worm, which is scheduled to begin this malicious activity on Friday, Feb. 3, replaces the contents of files such as Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and Access databases. It uses subject lines such as “Photos”, “*Hot Movie*”, and “Miss Lebanon 2006” to entice the user into opening the attachment. As soon as the attachment is executed, the user's system is immediately infected. Our anti-virus definition files are up to date and our gateway is well protected, but additional variants of the worm are anticipated. We ordinarily do not release advisories about individual worms, but because of the destructive nature of this worm, we wanted to bring this to your attention to protect both your work computer and your home computer.
What can you do? Do you have any Word, Excel, or PowerPoint files on your local C: drive? If so, we strongly recommend taking precautionary measures and saving these files to a server that is backed up regularly. This is a good time to get out of the habit of keeping important files only on your C: drive.
Do you preview your inbox looking for suspicious emails before opening them? If not, start now! There is more specific information on the worm is available below. Elayne Starkey    State of Delaware   Department of Technology and Information

The files destroyed include Microsoft Office files including Word documents, Access database and PowerPoint files; files belonging to various Anti-Virus applications; Adobe Acrobat files and others. In addition to spreading via email, this worm can also spread through network file sharing where the file shares are not password protected or have a weak password.
Although anti-virus vendors are rating this low-medium risk, it is important to note the destructive nature of this worm. Additionally, the worm may spread via email attachments that may not normally be blocked at email gateways. Additional variants of this worm are anticipated.
Please use this opportunity between now and February 3 to block the worm, detect infections and eradicate the worm from infected machines before it begins to destroy files on February 3rd.

The worm typically arrives in a malicious email attachment, though it can also spread through file-sharing networks. The worm uses social engineering to trick users into opening unsolicited emails. Once executed, the worm scans the victim’s computer for email addresses and uses its own SMTP engine to send copies of itself to these harvested addresses. Additionally, on the third day of every month, it will destroy various file types on the infected systems. The files destroyed will have the following file extensions: .doc, .xls, .ppt, .mdb, .mde, .zip, .rar, .pdf, .psd, .dmp, .pps and files belonging to Anti-Virus applications.

The name changes with the function. When they're parking lights,
they give the vehicle definition at night, while parked.
Remember, white lights in the direction of travel.
ie: backup lights while in reverse. When the headlights are on
they are defined as running lights. In the day, sealed beam headlights
would fail quite often. This gives the vehicle definition at night
when traveling so it wouldn't be mistaken for a motorcycle.
Parking lights / Running lights at the swap of a connector terminal.
The tail lights act as parking lights and stay on through both
positions
of the headlight switch. So simply combining the tail lights with the
front parking lights will give you the desired effect. (The shorting bar
in my headlight switch made a pin available to connect the tail lights
to the parking lights in parallel)
Note:  This has nothing to do with brake lights / signal lights which
is
accomplished with complex switching at your signal lever in your
steering column and a load sensitive flasher.  That's a different
animal.

That, was the issue, Mike. It seems as if I remember

Also, my chrome moldings are just the factory tin or

buff them and have them installed when windshield is

Re: [Chevelle-list] Questions and advise

2006-01-31 Thread Danny Wilsher

Some one suggested to just run a
wire to connect the running lights to the headlights. This would make the head
lights come on when the running lights come on because they would back feed the
headlights. This would not be a problem unless you wanted to just run your
running lights and not your headlights. A simple way to make
the running lights stay on when the headlight are on is to wire a
relay to power up with the headlight power and hook up a jumper to the running
light circuit from a normally open switch leg of the relay. The power for the
running lights could come from a jumper off of the same wire that you use to
power the relay. Just jump it to the other side of the normally open switch in
the relay. This could be done under the dash or even under the hood if you
bought a weather proof relay switch. If you need a schematic, I could draw one
up real quick and send it to you. You can get a 30 amp relay for 6 or 8 dollars
most any where at an auto parts store. As I am thinking about this, I seam to
remember that there are 2 separate circuits that power up the running lights on
some cars. One for the front and one for the back. If this is the case, then
both front and back circuits would have to be tied in to the same place on the
relay.

Hey Ron, yeah I don't think the 40s sound bad, I think they sound
great.  I agree with you though that they can be a little too much
on a long drive.  Especially, when you cruise at certain RPMs where
the resonance is at its worst.

There supposed to be the 40 series Delta flows.  I have ran the 40

Anyone here running Super 40s?  I was going to do the regular old 40

the Super 40s are just as loud outside, but with less interior resonance

anyone had them.

Never really paid much attention but were any pre-68 cars designed to have the parking lights on at the same time as the headlamps?  I figured that is how they got the moniker of ?parking lights? ?  Curious minds want to know.
That's a good question Dale.  I first noticed this while fixing some wiring on a 66 Malibu, I couldn't figure out why the parking lights wouldn't come on with the headlights, but came on by themselves.  It was perplexing at the time, then I found out that's the way they are.  I'm going to do some research and find out if any pre 68 Fords or Mopars do the same thing.

Well….while looking at hogs, my uncle got the urge to urinate…..He whipped out his pocket pal and started to let fly….The stream accidentally hit the electric wire hooked to a 110 Volt outlet.
