[Chevelle-list] Clearance Question

2006-05-11 Thread steve502
Does anybody out there have a 70-72 that is using the Cowl Induction air
cleaner with an aftermarket intake? If so, did you have to make any mods to
make it fit? What Carb / intake are you using? I've been told that a Holley
is shorter than the AFB style carb. Is that correct?

Thanks in advance,
Steve

Also, be sure to remove the spring before you weld it. The heat will soften
the spring, reducing pressure.

Hi Jimmy,

If you decide to weld the pickup to the pump, it's best to have it brazed
since the pickup and pump are different materials. Another option is to
buy

an after market pickup that has a tab on it that enables you to run two of
the oil pump cover bolts through, effectively bolting the pickup to the
pump.

thanks guys for the reply. I drained the oil , fished around the oil pan
through the drain plug hole with a coat hanger and felt the oil pick-up
laying (loosely)in the bottom of the pan. I'm guessing the best way to
deal

with it ,would be to yank the motor , put it back on the engine stand
re-install the pick-up and try and get it welded in there. I'd like to hear
what you guys think. thanks, Jimmy C.

You can use the truck bellhousing (much cheaper) and get a spacer for the transmission bearing retainer.  I got one from the following and it works great!
Dennis Wayne McLeodToolcraft Co., Inc.Cell 502-558-1043Office 502-222-5764FAX 502-222-5942
I think that the total including S & H was $28.00 for the spacer ring.  He really does good work and is very easy to deal with.  Tell him I gave you his info if you talk to him or email him.

His email is www.dennymac.com

I installed a new and correct flywheel 14 inches in radius . I was told that I need a 621 bellhousing, is this correct. If so does anyone on the list have one for sale?

[Chevelle-list] 1969 functional OAI

2006-05-11 Thread John Nasta

Well, I took a quick look at my EC and unfortunately
the grills in the 1969 SS hood line up pretty much directly over the plastic
cowl vent grills, meaning that other than possibly supplying more air to the
cabin, they are pretty superfluous. There doesn’t seem to be enough room there
to make any kind of meaningful aftermarket OAI setup with a stock hood.

Re: [Chevelle-list] LOW OIL PRESSURE/solved?

2006-05-11 Thread Bill Lessenberry
You can probably get the pan off without pulling the motor unless the
bell housing hits the body. Take the bolts out of the mounts, remove
the fan shroud, drain the radiator & take off the hoses and anything
else that might get bound up or stretched. Jack up the front of the
motor at the balancer, wedge some 2 x 4 blocks between the mounts &
that'll give you the room you need to pull the pan. If it doesn't
work & you have to pull the motor anyway, you haven't lost anything
since all that will have to be done anyway.

Jeg's has a oil pump pickup retainer than clamps the pickup to the pump
body. Part #555-23620, $9.99. I have used this part and have changed

[Chevelle-list] Trailer Hitch mount instructions for a -63?

2006-05-11 Thread Pelle Andersson
Hi!

I've got a "forum pal" that needs to show these paper to the motor vehicle
inspectors to get it approved.
Does anyone know where to obtain mount instructions for an
Original trailer hitch to a -63?

  Subject: [Chevelle-list] Bellhousing
  question

Last night I was ready to install my BB finally into my 69 Chevelle, come
to find out that the bellhousing does not fit (TOO SMALL) I had this
bellhousing off my 350 which fit with the old flywheel which is about 12
  inches in radius.
I installed a new and correct flywheel 14 inches in radius . I
was told that I need a 621 bellhousing, is this correct. If so does anyone on
the list have one for sale?

  Thanks Joe P.

Devin - I live in Wallace by South Shore Comanche Lake. It sounds like

Re: [Chevelle-list] Bellhousing question

2006-05-11 Thread MICRLASER

You don't need to have a 621 bellhousing, you can use a 444 casting as
well.  Dig deep if you are after a 621 housing.  You can use a truck
bellhousing also, you just need a bushing on the bearing retainer since the hole
is a bit bigger.
