Thanks Herb. You're right, I go to Old Town about
once a month and see maybe 300 cars each visit, and have only seen one other big
block with that style. The one I saw looked chrome instead of polished
aluminum.. I'm happy with the way the engine turned out.

Ditto. I also bought the MSD p/n 35379 for the

They are red with gray boots.

9. Disconnect trans linkage
10. Disconnect speedometer cable and back-up switch
11. Manual trans - disconnect clutch cordon shaft at frame. Auto trans -
disconnect cooler lines, detent cable, rod or switch wire, and modulator
pipe.
12. Remove crossmember bolts. Jack up engine and move crossmember rearward.
13. Remove crossover or dual exhaust pipes.
14. Remove: flywheel housing cover, transmission, flywheel housing and
throw-out bearing, front engine mounts through bolts.

15. Raise rear of engine approximated 4 inches. Support engine by hoist.
16. Raise front of engine approximately 4 inches and insert 2 in. blocks

[Chevelle-list] Package Tray - 66 Chevelle

2006-05-26 Thread Larry Shouse

Can someone tell me what the proper "look and feel"
is for the area behind the rear seat back, where the speaker holes are? If I'm
not mistaken, that area is covered by cardboard, or some other compressed paper
or sawdust kind of thing right?

What I'd like to do is make it look original, but
use better materials. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Larry Shouse

Re: [Chevelle-list] Oil Pan removal on a 69

2006-05-26 Thread Fred Dowaliby

Folks,

I have replaced the pan gasket on a '68/454 with a 1 piece gasket
without even loosening the motor mounts, and with the Turbo 400 in
place. As I recall, I did remove the flex plate dust cover. I was able
to drop the pan enough (1/2" or 1"?) to remove the old gasket, being
careful not to drop any of it in the pan. I then worked the 1-piece
over the crossmember, around the pan and up into place.

Hope this helps,

Fred

I'm confused. I need to replace the spark plug wires on my 1966 396. The
spark plug boots on the wires which are on the car are angled. It seems
that in all of the replacement wires that I can find, the boots are
straight. The angled boots make the wires fit much better. What's
correct?

I'd like to keep the appearance essentially stock. Suggestions?

On another note, is anyone going to the Hemming's Musclepalooza in NY
this

weekend?

Thanks for the help.
Mark.

No,
It is not possible to get the pan out with the motor bolted in
place..even w/o a trans and flexplate attached. You can however
unbolt the motor mounts and lift th eengine a few inches to get it
done. You will not need to remove radiator hoses etc...but depending
on exhaust you may bhave to loosen that.

Good luck and be careful

I bought those at www.summitracing.com The part
number for mine is RNM-1102P.

If you do a search with just
RNM- in the search box, you will see them all. They come in polished,

To install, you just back out
two of your valve cover bolts, match up the holes and put the bolts
back in.

  It costs around $40.

  Thanks for the kudos. The
air cleaner is a combination of a drop down base, a 14x2.5 inch K&N

Larry,

That is one good looking engine!! I really like the plug wire guides as well. I'll be replacing the valve covers when I get all of my parts, and ducks in a row, and will add those to the mix. Thanks for the picture; very motivating.

As a sidenote about MSD as a company, when I assembled my engine, I took it in to have it dyno'ed. In the process, I lost my coil wire. Not being able to find a suitable replacement at Summit, I called MSD. They sent one out at no charge. Way to go MSD!

Here's a picture of my engine with the wires.

I found that MSD Multi-angle ends worked best with my BB and Hooker headers.  They can each be bent to fit their particular location.

I've been meaning to ask for a recomendation on wires as well. I have a 69 396SS with Hooker Comp headers and I'm needing to replace the plug wires. Any brands to avoid? 45 degree boots? 135 degree boots?

I bought some of the Taylor 8MM spiral wound wires. Just plain black, with the 45 degree boots. You can get them straight, or 90 degree also. They appear stock, only giveaway is some white writing on them.
