[Chevelle-list] DASH COLOR

2006-11-28 Thread rottyjoe
WHAT WOULD BE THE CORRECT BLACK FINISH FOR THE DASH INCLUDING GLOVE BOX FOR A
69 CHEVELLE?
I KNOW GM USED THE SAME BLACK FINISH, THERE ARE SO MANY FINISHES.

Dean- It's yours. Do what looks good to you. I prefer to break up the body
color, but that's my opinion.

I'm finally getting around to painting my '65 ragtop. What's the current
trend or opinion about the color of the firewall, fenderwells, & core support?
Body color or black? Keep in mind that originality is not an issue on this
one.

  Thanks for the input!

Re: [Chevelle-list] Frame

2006-11-28 Thread Tom Rightler
Unless you are drag racing or twisiting the car up constantly, it's
unnecessary. I regularly torque up my 70 and it's never had a frame
problem. Besides, the hardtop give the car much more rigidity than a ragtop
would have. Those rear braces were only on cars with 12 bolt rears. A
street driven cruiser will not have any noticeable benefits from it. As for
cracks at the roof/quarter seam, some cars (vinyl top cars mostly) used
plastic filler from the factory for that seam instead of lead.

Why would it be a waste of time?
It's not like they were super stiff frames even when new.
Chevy used a convertible frame for the 65 SS.
They had those braces for the rear in stick shift cars
(BB only?)
Why do some hardtops have fatigue cracks on quarter panels where roof B
pillar attaches.

I have a convertible 65SS and I added the read support bars. If the frame is
out why not box it in just in case.

Re: [Chevelle-list] Painting question/ Opinion Poll

2006-11-28 Thread Jim H. Thompson
I am going to powder coat the radiator support and inner fenders gloss
black, body color for the rest. I want to use spray on bed liner for the
bottom and firewall that matches the body color. I am thinking about making
my 65 convertible a tribute to the 69 Camaro pace car that Year One put
together.

Re: [Chevelle-list] Painting question/ Opinion Poll

2006-11-28 Thread Larry Shouse
When I had my 66 painted, The paint guy suggested I have him paint both the
inner fenders and the firewall body color. I was thinking more "old school",
with correct shades of black on both the firewall and inner fenders. He and
I discussed this once a week whenever I would go look at his progress on the
rest of the body... I finally compromised. I had him paint the firewall body
color, and the inner fenders in semi gloss black. I have no regrets at all.
I'm extremely happy with the way things look under the hood. I figured it
would be much easier to take out the inner fenders and spray them body color
if I decided I didn't like the current look

Take a look at some cars at local meets and shows, look at pictures on-line
and in the magazines. Ultimately, it's your call. Good luck.

I've always like the traditional semi-gloss black.
