They didn't sell to many 'cause they build that many! I don't recall seeing
more than one setting on anybody's lot for any extended period of time. SSR's
still bring a good dollar setting on a used car lot and, IMO, look damn good.

Did you also think the Plymouth Prowler was a flop? They were expensive and had
great styling and also were limited in availability. But, they were under
powered with a V-6 engine. Didn't bother the sales or the resale value one bit.
I would say the major flop award from the last 5 years goes to Ford for the
Thunderbird resurrection. A bunch were built and they sat on dealers' lots for
a long time.

SSR was probably a flop becasue it was too slow, a little too expensive (for
its slowness), and not as useful as a pickup...they actually may be worth
something someday though since they didn't sell too many.

I'd buy one of the Australian Elky's iff they bring it in as an SS El Camino
with over 400 hp LS3 and 6 speed, and a functional cowl induction hood ...the
rear roof line should come back a little further though (imo)... and they need
to make sure the bed can haul 4x8 sheets of plywood (at least on top of wheel
wells).

GM oughta run with it as an El Camino, probably easy as hell to plaster the
Malibu front end on it, they are a bunch of dimwits if they don't bring back
the SS El Camino...the accesories/options they could come up with alone culd
probably get GM back in the black ...along with the new Camaro

I would not buy it as a Pontiac though... just wouldn't be something right
about it being a Pontiac

I’d have to disagree with the SSR being a flop. I doubt it was ever intended
to be a bread-and-butter production unit with its convertible hard top. Front
end looks too much like a Toyota and I’m not excited by the useless quarter
windows, but one never knows…

G8 models to broaden appeal
Pontiac sedan will be offered as a station wagon and sport truck
November 20, 2007
BY MARK PHELAN FREE PRESS AUTO WRITER
Pontiac wants to add variants of the eagerly awaited G8 rear-wheel-drive sport
sedan to broaden the model's appeal.
A station wagon and sport-truck variation are among the possibilities for the
Australian-built car that is to go on sale next spring.

It's very likely we're going to get more variants of the G8, a General Motors
Corp. source said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the automaker is
still considering which G8 models to offer. The sleek sedan will become the
flagship for Pontiac's return to its performance heritage when it replaces the
Grand Prix sedan in 2008.
GM's Holden Australian unit builds the wagon and pickup models as part of its
best-selling Commodore VE family of vehicles. The G8 is a mildly revised
version of the Commodore VE sedan. Its sporty looks are reminiscent of a BMW
5-series, and it is the first production model from GM's global Zeta family of
rear-wheel drive cars, which also will produce the Chevrolet Camaro and a
number of other models GM's North American plants will build for several of the
automaker's brands.
It's optimistic to think that all the body styles Holden builds could come
here, the source said.
The weak U.S. dollar makes importing the wagon and pickup a dicey proposition,
and GM isn't sure how much demand there would be for either of the cars. GM has
not said how many G8s it

[Chevelle-list] a 64 Chevelle Purchase in Canada

2007-11-22 Thread Daniel Mascheck
What kind of problems can you have buying a 64 Chevelle from Canada? I live
in Texas and wonder if there are some legal problems? The car is supposed to
be registered in the states, and the person tells me it costs too much to
license and title the car in Canada. Is that true? If the car is sold
through Ebay will it cover any problems that might arise if the guy stiffs
me!

I'm just curious if this is a good thing to pursue? Being the guy lived in
Texas, but now lives in Canada, I have no clue how the law works across the
border or I have a good chance on getting the big weenie on the deal!

Are there people or a service you can hire in Canada to inspect the car and
be a go between on the finances?

Re: [Chevelle-list] a 64 Chevelle Purchase in Canada

2007-11-22 Thread Tom Tomlinson
I bought my '71 Malibu from a guy in Canada, but it was registered in
Canada.

The car has to pass EPA and DOT regulations before you can import it
from Canada, but fortunately, any car older than 25 years old is exempt.
I shipped the car from Vancouver BC to NY, and used the shipper as the
go-between person, ie, the shipper actually paid the guy for the car. I
worked with a customs broker to get the car imported properly.

As far as inspection goes, service stations in Canada have a standard
used car check list they go through. The list is very thorough. I had
the owner take the car to a local service station, they inspected the
car and faxed me the results. It was well worth it, as the report
covered everything that was wrong with the car.

It may seem like a big hassle, but the whole deal worked out well for
me. At the time, the Canadian dollar was 30% less than the US dollar, so
total cost of the car purchase and shipping was about $5k.

However, some newer cars (1980's) that come from Canada don't pass EPA
and DOT standards, and can't be registered in the US. Makes them tough
to sell.
