Subject: [Chevelle-list] 65 Power Steering Box Adjustment

What is the best way to adjust the steering Box on a 65 Chevelle with
power steering. Does the screw go in or out to tighten/loosen the
adjustment and the play? It seem too hard to turn the steering wheel?

Dennis - did you get yours fixed?

Larry

Remember, wheels in the air and engine running when doing power steering
unless you are Arnold and small increments and NOT up tight!. I remember
trying to turn the steering whilst driving only to find everything had
locked!!

From years ago memory you loosen the locknut and hold it in place and then
tighten the central screw a tiny bit at a time until the free play is
reduced. Then tighten the outer nut when done.

Re: [Chevelle-list] radiator

2010-04-17 Thread Chum Nault
I have a radiator problem that I hope someone has an answer for. I am
restoring a 65 L79 with a manual transmission and no a/c. I got this car in
pieces so I do not have the original radiator or fan shroud. I ordered a
radiator #604644-1 and a fan shroud #605623 from Ecklers. The radiator I
received is perfect except there is no flange on the engine side of it to
bolt the fan shroud to. I can't find any pictures of a non A/C L79 so I
don't know exactly how it correctly mounts. I called Ecklers and they
confirmed that I have the correct radiator for this car and I can easily
fabricate some brackets but I want to put this car together as correct as
possible. Any suggestions?

Thanks

I don't think any L79 came with A/C so that's not a problem. Check this
site to see if you can pick up details.

Thanks for the link, I can see by one of the photos that the radiator has a
flange on both sides. I will call ecklers back on Monday and see if they can
get me one with the correct flanges.

Hi Larry,

My wandering '65 is better but still not perfect. The camber has been
reduced to zero and the caster has been increased with some improvement. It
almost acts like a ball-joint is dragging, but they are not.

Thanks,
Dennis

Suggestions? Yeah try someone besides Ecklers. If you are selling parts for
restoring of  cars, you would think they as a seller of restoration parts could
come up with a better idea than fabricate some brackets.6021 1965 L-79 were
produced so you should be able to find the right parts-Try Dick @ True
Connections in California. He owns one and knows everything there is to know
about them.
