Re: [Chevelle-list] 1970 SS Trunk Mat

Donnie, I was told that they got the part I ordered from a supplier and
repackaged it wrong. After telling them the right size, they still sent me
two more wrong ones and I finally got the right one from inline tube. Great
company to deal with.

John, Yea, we are out in Greenlawn Long Island now. I used to work for Scott
Buckler with a company called "Riggin Design" He designed and built camera
cranes. I was the operator for him. Worked on a whole bunch of low budget

If you still have the original brake light sockets, I would also check them
as they ground on the body and if any water has gotten into the socket
itself, then the middle of the bulb connection may be the problem. Put some
die electric grease if they are ok and you plan on continuing to use them.
You can also but aftermarket replacements (If you are not all orig) and they
utilize a ground wire that you can ground elsewhere.

I have taken out and reinstalled my front glass on my 66. It is not that
hard and as long as you use the correct tools and "rope" caulking, you
should not have a problem. If I remember correctly, there are a few
different sizes and the one you need to use is a little bit more then you
need, leaving enough room to push it down a little to seal it correctly and
reinstall the trim.

Unless you need full quarters, maybe just get patch panels and keep what you
can of the originals. I put Goodmark lower quarters (From the body line

Re: [Chevelle-list] Tires for my 67

As long as the tire height stays the same, your speedo will be fine. You
need to "Plus size" your wheel tire combo. This is when you make your rim
size bigger and your tire sidewall smaller. Like going from a 14" rim and 70
series tires to a 15" rim and 60 series tires.

[Chevelle-list] Turbo 400 speedo gear help.

2010-05-10 Thread Dan Rachlin
Hey guys.

I thought I would post this up. I know I can buy them, but I wanted to
see if anyone had speedo drive and or driven gears for a '85 turbo 400
tranny left over from a swap. I need a 15 tooth drive gear (The one inside
the tranny) that is Gray. And a 39 tooth driven gear (The one that comes out
with the plug holder thing) That is brown. I have a orange drive gear that I
guess is 16 tooth, and a drive gear of 35 that is orange. If anyone want's
to do a trade or needs these. Let me know.
Thanks,
Dan

Re: [Chevelle-list] fuel sending unit

Larry, Also remember as the fuel sloshes around the tank while you drive,
the gauge will go up and down a little. If it is erratic to the point of
grounding out, then you definitely have a ground problem that needs to be
fixed better.

Re: [Chevelle-list] fuel sending unit

2010-04-09 Thread Dan Rachlin
You may want to just check your grounds. When mine stopped working, I
removed my sending unit and moved the sending unit up and down and had a
friend look at the gauge. It read perfectly, letting me know that it was
just the grounds. Unless the sending unit is real old, or you got lots o
$$$. There is no reason to fix something that is not broken. Also, most
importantly, on my 66, I was able to get the sending unit out without
dropping the tank. I need to recheck my ground later today when I can as my
unit reads fine til 1/4 tank, then goes past full. So I need to recheck my
ground too.

Looking at the pics, I would clean the area very well and get a full
replacement for the front driver side and cut out most of it and replace.
Just because you can see some holes here and there doesn't mean that there
are not other places of the pan that will rot out in time because of weak
metal. Also it is easier to cut out one big piece and weld it in then try to
do a couple small pieces.

Sorry it took so long. The starter is a 6449, which if you search, just
comes up as a gear reduction starter. I got it at Davis auto electric, his #
is 540-377-2062 and is in Raphine, Va right off I-81 exit 205. I'm sure you
can find it other places. I have not had any problems with it and it only
cost me $110.00 which is a lot less than advertised gear reduction starters.
Hope this helps.

Try a window crank removal tool. It's the right tool for the job. You should

Yea, I recently sent out an email about the site. It's a lot of fun and
there are chalenges that you can do against other car entousiasts. Like
Melanie said we have a Chevelle only tournament going on right now and need
more people in it. I takes 16 to get started and everyone votes on which car
they like better and it goes down two by two til there is one winner. Check
it out. My name on the site is Dan O. There are forums there to.

Re: [Chevelle-list] alternator charging

2008-07-23 Thread Dan Rachlin
Lorne,

Do you have a wiring diagram? If not, I have one on PDF I can Email you.
Take off the wire that comes from the battery and goes to the junction
block. Test again, if you still have the problem, then it's on the way to
the starter and coil. If not, then reattach the wires that go to the horn
and check further down the line. There is a huge connection of wires in the
line that go to different points on the car. This joint may also be a
problem. Since the car is old, also check wires someone may have put through
the firewall that do not have grommets as they may be grounding out. Hope
any of this helps.
