Melanie
 CARS have been
making upholstery for 55-57 Chevs for years. They then branched out to some sheet
metal for thre tri-5's.I understand they have made body panels to change a
2-door hardtop over to a convert.I believe Troy Trepanier has used some of their
stuff.I did not know they were making things for Chevelles now
though.

Yikes, I did not mean to cause an argument.
Just wanted to assure this place has quality products and I can save myself
the shipping by going there directly. John had valid points, but I have
the catalog in my possession and it does state that they make the interior
parts there . Now I don't know if they make the sheet metal there, but
it does state they use USA metal and it IS IN Detroit, the car making
capital of the USA. We have decided to go ahead and order from them and
will probably pick up the stuff next week, so I'll keep you all posted as to
how it goes. . . . and yes I am a WOMAN who loves Chevelles. Can't wait
to get ours on the road. My husband is revving up the motor, that's his
department, while I'm hoping to get to work on the interior
myself. Might not do that until winter though because I want to
DRIVE her while it's nice out.
Thanks for all the responses. I think we
are gonna have lots more questions once the actual restoration processes
  begin.

Ok. I know this is a shot in the dark but here goes...

Today, while doing some pre-assembly on the grille for my Malibu, I
started
to think something was missing. So after a while, I realized that I have
nothing behind my front bumper. So I go in the trunk, and there's what's
left of the front 'valance'?? It's missing the Passenger side, and is
fairly
 beat up.

Here's a picture of the area that has missing parts:

http://www.thebugbox.com/malibu/pictures/updates/2004-02-22/missingpieces.htm

Here's a picture of what I think might go there in the pile of parts that
I
 have.

http://www.thebugbox.com/malibu/pictures/updates/2004-02-22/whatIthinkIhave.htm

So, first, what all is supposed to go in this gap across the front. Is it
one piece, three pieces or ???

Also, does anyone know where to get either a repop, or decent used? If I
have everything, but that passenger side that is missing, does anyone have
that part that I can buy, and try and straighten the one that I have, and
get it useable? It will be a real PITA to have to fabricate this whole
side
from scratch. IF that's what it even looks like. Is the passenger side
identical to the drivers side (well, a direct mirror I mean)?

I appreciate any help with this. Thanks

I have the numbers matching 307, but right now it has a 400sb built to go

stomach. I know I answered my own question just now, but I want opinions. I'd
like to show it some day, do you lose a lot of points for changing the color?
Should I care what others think?,build it the way I want it?, or try to

which to keep vs. which to sell

This may sound like a lame question, but rambling thoughts on too many
classic cars causes me to ask opinions about selling one (or even two):

  - I have a 67 Chevelle SS, 67 Chevelle Malibu, and 57 Chevy Bel Air Sport
  Coupe

  a. I have to sell at least one of these vehicles.

  b. The 67 Chevelle SS is matching numbers and completely restored so it
stays. Appraised at 32K. But, you would not want to use as a daily driver.

  c. The 67 Chevelle Malibu has a 383 stroker, headers, and in great
condition. New gas tank, new radiator. Engine good condition. Little rust. A
good driver. Not a show car.Brakes have to be upgraded. Interior original and
  new headliner and carpeting. Great
condition. Has powerglide trans. Can be upgraded to 350 turbo. Underneath
of car has the classic rust coating they used in 60's and 70's. Sounds loud
  and proud. Carter Carb,
  nice stereo system. Alarm.

  d. The 57 Chevy has original 283 engine and powerglide trans.
Re-done interior, power steering and front disc. brakes, new gas tank, new
radiator. Needs new trunk pan, and
2 new inner fender wells. Needs frame to be sandblasted. Needs to have
  engine bay and
hood to also be sandblasted. Not a show car, but a good cruiser.

So between the 67 Chevelle Malibu and 57 Chevy which one would you keep.
The 57 Chevy probably has more value than the 67 Malibu. I love the way the 67
  Malibu handles
but guidebooks indicate value is much less than a 67 SS--or even a 57
  Chevy.

Well, again, lame question. But, one has got to go.

  Thoughts ?

  Happy 4th July.

 P is Muncie
0614 is June 14 (assuming a zero '0' and there's no space between
 it and the '6').
This is a 64 to 66 transmission. 1967 saw the introduction of
the model year in the number - such as P8T13. P is Muncie, 8 is
for 1968, T is for December, and 13 is the 13th.

 M20, M21 and M22 didn't get a letter designator until 1969
 with 'A', 'B', and 'C' respectively.

 Congrats on the find though!

 Dale

 Decoding the P O 614 is (I think):
 Muncie (P) June (06) 14th (14)

I had to replace three out of four floor pans in my 64 convert.I
took it to a fellow who owned a sheet metal shop.I purchased the floors from
that Atlanta Georgia company.I watched the fellow cut them out and then drop
them in with an overlap. He then drilled little holes and put sheet metal
screws through the holes, so that they would not move when he started to
weld them. After,he just backed the screws out and spot welded the tiny screw
holes shut.It was interesting to watch and learn. They look and fit like a
hot damn.He then made me buy black marine paint to totally seal them against
moisture ever hitting the bare metal.

 John,

It's not all that difficult. Just use the old saying measure twice, cut
once
:-). You don't need to use the whole floor pan either, just use what you
need. As long as you have an air nibbler, whizzer wheel, or other cutting
tool
and the welder you will be just fine.

bought the car, it never occured to me to check the VIN tag in the dash.
I have now discovered that the tag is gone. He said the tag was lost
when the car was in the body shop, and they replaced the windshield. I
have since learned that many people have problems with the tag when they
replace the windshield. Nevertheless, I am now trying to verify the car

does not have an alpha charachter in it). Anyway, I have looked in the

  Jerry: that is what I
believe. If the car was built to ship overseas it would have had a metric
odometer. Andre you may be able to help us on this one. Can't remember but
the trim code will have some numbers designating it as an
  export.
  Larry

  Larry
  You are right about
exports to Europe, almost everyeuropean countryhave Kilometer
speedos.England is still mph I believe. When theAmerican and Canadian car
companies exported cars they could have different headlights ordered and
different tires as alot of the Highways arevery different to drive
on,unless you are in Germany and have cars cruise by you at 180 k per hour
{110 mph] or faster. The Chevelles built in Belgium could even have a Factory
metal sunroof ordered for them.I saw a brand new 1967 black over yellow
small block Chevelle in London in July 67 that had the Factory roof
installed.I chased the guy all around Piccadilly until I could speak to him
about his car,and I remember he paid $10,000 U.S. for it,because of the high
duties on non British built cars.It came from Belgium and it was a left hand
drive not a right hand drive model. They also built Camaro's in Belgium and the
roof was an option also.Rare cars!

  seats?

  Question: Anyone know if
there are stock bench seats that recline and fit a 72 chevelle, or
aftermarket or newer model seats that will fit? How about a bench seat
that has the fold-down armrest? I love buckets, but benches are where its
at for me! I have also heard that alot of monte carlo parts fit chevelles
also, how about seats? thanks! chris 72 malibu
  NJ
   Chris
   Buick
Skylarks, etc have full down arm rest bench seats as options from 65 on up and
many 68 to 72 had power driver's sides and they bolt right in your
  Chevelle.

  Thanks tom, my cousin worked
late 60's to mid 70's for chevy in Calif. he always vacation due to
changeover time in July. OK guys if you want send me your build
dates how about year -build date -and production plant

  Larry

  Larry
   I have a very
late build date on my 64 chevelle convert that I mentioned to you before. It
was built June 29th/1964 and not shipped until july 7th/1964.It was built at
the Oshawa,Ontario plant.I used to go down to the Storage holding yards
for new cars, near my home in the early 60's and peer through the fence so I
could see the new models of Chevs and Fords.I would always see them come
in in early August, but they weren,t in the showrooms for a few more weeks. On
Sunday of this week, the 12th of August,I jogged down early to A Pontiac
dealership one mile from my home and in the back they already have 2002
  Grandams,and Buick Regals.

  Get
this the 3 speed shift linkage is bolted to the cross member!!! When you
really get on it, it's a bear to shift. You drive almost everyplace in 2nd
gear, it sort of like having a man-matic if that's a word. I can take off in
2nd and drive around town, just push in the clutch when stopping and takeoff
again in second. I think the big block helps out allot with this but is kind
of nice for cruising. Unless I tell them or they ask everyone thinks it's a 4
speed bench car. If you go to this link you can see the bench seat shifter.
They have more of a loop in them.

  BTW
my car is still not very far along. When these pictures where taken I lived in
Southern Cal. I moved and now live in southern Arkansas. Talk about a job
moving a non running car was hard enough..packing up all the parts and
moving those was a job. I tore down the engine and brought it in pieces. The
car was transported in enclosed trailer and cost $1700 to move it out here.
The company I work for picked up that bill thank
goodness!!

Joe: that is a rare
one. Wonder how many knew that the 3 speed was standard and the auto or
4 speed were the options? also the bench seat? I believe only 64 and 65
were bucket seat auto or 4 speed on the floor only SS cars.

 My best friend has the
same car as you, three speed ,bench seat,396-325 hp,no power steering etc.The
colours are a wierd dark brown, with green interior. It was built in Canada,
and when calling G.M. archive services,to get all the original paper work on
the car,the fellow at G.Msaid this was the only one he had ever heard
of built in Canada.I showed my friend the picture of your stock three speed
shifter and that is the only way he found out it is still the original
shifter,as he had thought that it was an after market one since nobody that
looked at it could verify it for him, that it was the correct one.Maybe you
should start a 396-3speed registery,to see how few are out
there.
