[Chevelle-list] Ladder bars

2010-03-27 Thread Don Holloway

Thinking about installing ladder bars on my 65 El Camino. Has 383 stroker (
about 450 hp), 12 bolt read end, beefed up powerglide, 3/4 ton coil springs on
front and rear, 10 wide BF Goodrich on the rear and 8 on the front. Need
opinions before I do this. Thanks.

Re: [Chevelle-list] Chevelle-list Digest, Vol 66, Issue 26

2009-01-30 Thread Don Holloway

I hope someone can give me some advice. I am finishing up on my 1965 El Camino.
Going to drop my fresh 450 HP 383 stroker in it. The engine block is a 1976.
High performance World Product heads. What spark plugs would be the best. I
hear that AC Delco are but with headers they are saying two plugs are going to
badly burned. And using shorty plugs on these two isn't that good because of
the performance of shorty's. Any suggestions.

What do you suppose this collection is worth? This collection belongs to
Dennis Albaugh in Ankeny, Iowa, just north of Des Moines.

The personal and private collection consists of 110 + Chevrolet convertibles

all years from 1912 to 1975 and Corvette convertibles from 1953 to 1975.
That is a Chevy convertible from every year of manufacture EXCEPT 1939.. !
- the reason? -

Chevy didn't make a convertible in '39 -- and ended its convertible line in
'75 !

His 'boy toys' include his own 18 hole golf course, copied somewhat after

Anyway, the glue is another story. With any kind of contact cement it's
important to spray both sides and let it dry a few minutes until it's tacky
rather than wet (the Super 77 can says to bond when it is aggressively
tacky). Hold the can 6 to 8 inches away, keep it moving and don't spray too
much. If your headliner material is porous it can ooze out the other side and
it is hard to get off.

Maybe it's a symptom of the fact that I park outdoors in all kinds of weather,
but mine fall down at least once a year, meaning that the material separates
from the boards. I have tried 3M Headliner Adhesive as well as Super 77. Maybe
some day I'll just buy the pre-done ones and get it over with.

Going through stuff in my car room today, I came across a 2003 OPG
poster-size calendar w/red 1967 SS Convertible that I had framed in a
2'x3' poster frame years ago.

To make room for some 2009 R/T posters that my brothers got me for
Christmas, I'm going to be unframing this guy and I'm not sure if anyone
would be interested in it and I have no idea it's worth. I'll let it go
for a reasonable offer, as it belongs hanging up in some Chevelle guy's
garage!!!

I can send a photo of it!

Jim H.

P.S. Most of the other 68/69 Chevelle stuff I hd has been cleared out but
I still have a few odds ends left:

- a few 1/64 diecasts (unopened)
- a couple of frameable prints
- a 1/24 scale (unopened) AMT model
- a couple of Chevelle cloth patches

I guess I'll farm out that stuff to ebay in the next few weeks when I
have time!

There is no such thing as a good chemical rust
remover. Sandblast it or cut it out and replace it. Naval Jelly
works to a point but will not remove deep pitted rust. Should you decide
to try Naval Jelly, you will need some 000 or steel wool and some warm
soapy water to neutralize it. Make sure you prime and paint it if it's in
an inconspicuos area. Don't try to apply one of those self claimed rust
converter coatings on it, they don't work.

Do you have the plastic bushings in there?

The shaft that goes through the bracket has a lot of slop in it as does the
brake pedal.

You can find them used, 64-66 are the same, 67 IS different. They do reproduce
these, and I've never heard of anybody having problems with them. When I
checked them out, they seemed like good pieces. I wonder what's so different
about yours that gave you so much trouble? I'm curious. Like I said, that part
of my brake conversion was simple. I don't remember there being any problems.

Thanks but I got it adjusted. I had to take out the whole pedal assembly and it
seems to be a piece of junk. does anybody make a decent pedal set for this year?

David, I can look under mine tonight, and take a picture, if you'd like. Just
let me know.

I'll look and see but The last time I tried I couldn't get to the end of the
pin. The only way I could get to the clip was with a long skinny screwdriver.

have to move the pedal forward or backward to get the pin out. There is a hole
along the plate that you can remove the pin through.

I had a Willwood master cylinder installed on my 66 chevelle w/non power front
disc/rear drum. The brakes lock up after about a mile of driving. I checked the
brake pedal rod and it has been adjusted all the way out which I'm pretty sure
is what is causing my problem. I tried to adjust the rod under the dash but I
can't get to it. Can I take the master cylinder loose and adjust it from under
the hood?
