[Chevelle-list] Looking for a 4 Bolt main Big Block Chevy Motor
Does anyone have a Big Block for sale out there? I've been poking around on a couple web sites offering a crate motor for around $5000.00 (454 / 425 HP)but that's a bit more than I want to spend. Any ideas? thanks, Barye

Any ideas? thanks, Barye just out of curiosity, why do you specifically want a 4 bolt block? The 454 in my 70 is pushing over 500 HP and it is a standard 2 bolt block from a 73 Caprice. [Chevelle-list] Engine Numbers
Will someone tell me where to find the engine numbers on a 396. The car is a 68 SS. And if at all possible, how to interpret the numbers to identify factory horsepower, 4 bolt mail etc.(or where I can find that info)... thanks, Barye
RE: [Chevelle-list] Engine Numbers
Thanks Tom. I'm thinking about unbolting the oil pan to check if it's a 4-bolt. Any thoughts? -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, October 15, 2003 9:17 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] Engine Numbers In a message dated 10/15/03 11:34:13 AM Eastern Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Will someone tell me where to find the engine numbers on a 396. There is a 7 digit number there that is the casting number. That will tell you what the block is. There is also a pad on the front of the block in front of the right (passenger side) cylinder head that should have some numbers and letters stamped in it unless someone has decked the block. RE: [Chevelle-list] Engine Numbers
Thanks Mike but..., I'mpretty sure it's the original motor but the air cleaner says 396 350 hp. Any ideas? The 68 came with the option of a 350 hp didn't it? -Original Message-From: Mike Holleman [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]Sent: Wednesday, October 15, 2003 9:44 AMTo: The Chevelle Mailing ListSubject: Re: [Chevelle-list] Engine Numbers The numbers you seek should be on the block, just in front of the right side cylinder head. Among these numbers you willfind two letters, such as EG, or EK. etc. That will tell you what HP and which transmission was used if the engine is still original. For a 68, an EG was 396/375hp, manual trans. And EK was 396/325 with a power glide. Thank you very much Bill for the detailed reply. I certainly appreciate it. T 400 EU 8K119978400=Turbo 400 auto trans EU=350hp 396 cid engine8K119978=the last digits of the VIN # stamped on the plate on the dash that can be seen through the windshield on the driver's side. This is how you know if you have a #'s matching car (unless someone restamped the motor or VIN) If it's a true SS, the VIN will be 138x. The 8 denotes the SS option. Hope this helps. RE: [Chevelle-list] more instructions for Guilherme Cardoso
Is this a chat room? Man, I just joined this mail list since I'm restoring my 68 SS, but I've seen a bunch of hazing at Guilherme's expense. What in the heck did he write? Question: Does anyone know where I can get the front fender trim pieces (polished aluminum I think) that start at the front of the tire and end center of the headlight? Anger emits BAD endorphins into the body.
