I used DAS when I purchase my El Camino and had it shipped from Calf. to
Oregon. They have many options. You can find details on Ebay
or www.dasautoshippers

Good luck,

diagnosed with diabetes (type 2) recently found a lump on my lower rib

this time I turned 55.So I've started to diet and am getting into exercising.
I can already see and feel the difference. Now for the lecture- All of

sciatica problem I would have never gone to the Doctor. It wasn't until he did
a complete physical on me did I realize how important ones health is.
So today I went out bought a engine hoist and stand. Tuesday I am going
down to the machine shop and picking up my aluminum head 454 that has been
there for 4 years (paid for just didn't have the room or the time to work on
the car). Also Tuesday my new 4L80E transmission is supposed to be arriving .
Finally after 6 years I am going to start working on the car and quit buying

From what the previous owner said, it was a rebuilt 65. From
what I have heard they puta Edlebrock cam kit to bustthe HP
to325 or 350. The numbers on the block is a J serious, which
tells me it was a 283. So I might have bought a good story, but
it runs well. It does have a cam for sure, the performer intake,
and 4 barrel. Wish I know it was really a 327. some day
might have to open the engine up and really see what I have.

This car is not a numbers car, but it sure does look nice.

By the way any one know how I can change out the floor shifter from

All ARP head bolts, rocker studsand main studs, Felpro gaskets, etc.

They CC'ed my heads, and they came in at 111cc's. With the pistons above, I'm looking at roughly 10.5:1 comp. ratio.

Block is getting bored 30 over, align bore checked, my L78 rectangular port heads are getting the complete workover, rods getting resized, everything balanced.

I went to Summit to compare pricing, and I was surprised that the prices I was quoted from these guys are the same or lower than Summit pricing. I figured a local shop would charge more...

I still need to decide on an intake and carb.

As I have been out of muscle car building since the late '70's, I welcome your comments.

You guys with the 64-67 cars might want to start collecting as many part numbers as you can (and interchanges of possible) and posting them somewhere. Most auto parts stores these days only go back to 1968 in their computers. Very often if you have a OEM part number they can still find it, sometimes because it interchanges with a 1968+ car or sometimes because they still have the old books and are willing to get out of their chair.

I've had numerous aftermarket fuel gauges and, to be honest, none have worked correctly. Had a SW back in the 60's in a '55, two different Autometers in my '67 and a Dakota Digital in my '67. Even with a new tank sender neither the Dakota Digital setup nor an Autometer UltraLite would read correctly. It got to the point that I used my odometer as a backup - I knew how far I could drive under normal in-town/highway conditions and watched the odometer to clue me in when to get gas.

If anyone figures it out, more power to 'ya - grin

I believe from checking out my fuel sending unit and gauge, that in 1964 they were 50 OHM and in 1965 they went to 90 OHM. I have a 90 OHM sending unit and a 90 OHM gauge, but it is not working the full range of the gauge. It only reads about half the range on the gauge.

Hope we all can find some help with this. I need to recheck my sending unit. Need to put an OHM meter on it and check it.

[Chevelle-list] First Paint Chip - Help on paint color

2005-06-26 Thread Kalsplace

Hello Everyone,

Just got my first paint chip on the door. Yes someone at work
or some place hit a classic car. So now I ask for your help.

I have a '64 El Camino, that the previous owner says has a Candy
Apple Red paint job. He gave me a spray can for touch up paint, but
is not right shade.

Can any one help in giving me tips to find a matching color touch up paint
and best way to work on the chip.

Been thinking of putting on door guards, a bumper line down the side of the
car, but have not seen a good one for that.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

64 El Camino - I just had my rearend totally rebuilt. Was $1300 and they had it for3 days, new gears. They made sure it worked very well before I got the car back.

They also did my muncie manual 4 speed, totally rebuilt for $1600. They opened the trany 4 times to make it work right. Had it 5 days.

Hope this gives you an idea of what a national transmission shop will charge you.

Jim,are you wanting to find a used rear end with the correct width and
gearing or buy an aftermarket unit? The former will be very hard to find and
both will be very expensive, with the latter being more so.

 All,
I think Im ready to pick up a new rear for my 66. What
Im shooting for is one that I can buy already together
and bolt right into the car. I know engines but know
nothing about rears, and everyone Ive spoken with has
told me it can get messy if you dont know what youre
doing. The car currently has a 10-bolt open rear in it
(Im guessing 3.08 as it was originally a 283 car). The
 car has a 327/300HP and a 2-spd powerglide now. I also
want to get a rear the same size (width) as the
existing 10-bolt, as I dont want to push my wheels and
tires out any further. Im hoping for something around
3.73 gears and a posi in the replacement.
Any input or links would be greatly appreciated!

 Jim

I have a 64 El Camino with a Muncie 4 speed, M 21. Just had it

getting the car back from rebuilt transmission, my speedo does not work.

I replaced the cable, and still nothing. I see the old cable
worked ok, once I removed it.

With my cable it is a screw on cap at both ends, so not hard to
replace. Just can not figure why the speedo does not work after
having the transmission rebuilt. yes it did work before the transmission
work. Will be talking to them today.

So I too need help with the Transmission and Speedo cable too.

Easy way to check cable condition is with the old or new cable hooked to
the trans, routed into the car correctly, unhooked to the speedo (have it
hanging down so you can see or feel the end) - take it for a slow ride
around the neighborhood and see if the inner cable rotates
