I am a real fan of a product called
Sea Foam. It's a fluid that sells for about $6 a can and works wonders with
stuck valves, gummed up carbs, etc. Fill the carb and let her set overnite;
should clean it up.

I
lurk a lot and have come to appreciate the wealth of knowledge on this list.
My problem is my 96 SeaRay OMC.
She has been sitting up too long (My wife wanted a pontoon) and when I went to
fire her up for the summer ski season, the float, needle valve etc... seems to
be gummed up. I have gas pouring out the top etc...
Anyone have any neat suggestions on a way to curb this problem without tearing
it down or sending it to the dealer?
Maybe take the fuel line loose and spray it slam full of gumout and let it
soak? Harm?
I just feel if I can get it running well enough it will eventually clean itself
up.

Re: [Chevelle-list] Heater vent thermostat source?

2004-06-27 Thread Robert Shaffer
I was replacing the heater core on my 66 this weekend. The heater
thermostat that sits in the heater box is mounted on a piece of
cardboard-like material. When removing the heater box this cardboard
disintegrated. Is there any place to buy a replacement thermostat? Has
anyone else run into this problem before? Thanks.

Re: [Chevelle-list] Original Keys

2004-02-16 Thread Robert Shaffer
Krister, I have the original keys for my '66. One side is stamped "GM Your
Keys to Success." The other side is stamped "Briggs & Stratton Corporation,
Milwaukee, Wis." I would guess that the Racine stamp on your keys is for
the dealership that sold the car.

[Chevelle-list] 1966 Grill Rivets

2003-07-31 Thread Robert Shaffer

I need to remove my grille to do some work on it and was
wondering if anyone knows if there is anything special about the rivets.
Are they “special” rivets?  If so, does anyone know of a
source?  It also looks like it is pretty tricky to install new
rivets.  Is there a special tool?  Thanks.

Chicago Corvette Supply is a great source for Holley parts, though I can't
say whether they're the cheapest in terms of price. Catalog says they have
a base plate assembly for a 3310 - $179.00.

[Chevelle-List] CA Legislative Alert - S.B. 708

2003-03-07 Thread Robert Shaffer
I just received this in an email from Hagerty Insurance. If you live in
California you should write your senator to stop this :

quote:

CA Senate Reintroduces Legislation to Repeal Old Car Emissions Exemption

The Specialty Equipment and Manufacturers Association (SEMA) recently sent
the Hagerty Protection Network the following California Legislative Alert to
share with our customers. If you have any questions regarding this alert,
please contact Sydney McManus, Hagerty Protection Network Legislative
Director at 800-922-4050, x8787 / [EMAIL PROTECTED] or Steve McDonald,
SEMA Director of Government and Technical Affairs at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT

Legislation to Repeal Old Car Emissions Exemption Introduced AGAIN in
California Senate

As predicted, legislation has been reintroduced in the California Senate to
repeal the state's current rolling emissions test exemption for vehicles 30
years old and older. S.B. 708 repeals the current pro-hobbyist exemption and
replaces it with an exemption for vehicles that are 45 or more model years
old commencing January 1, 2005.

We Urge You to Contact Your State Senators Immediately to Oppose S.B. 708

Existing law in California exempts all pre-1974 vehicles from emissions
testing until 2003. After 2003, vehicles 30-years old and older are exempt
from emissions testing.
California's current emissions testing exemption recognizes the minimal
impact of vehicles 30-years old and older on vehicle emissions and air
quality.
Vehicles 30-years old and older constitute a small portion of the overall
vehicle population and are a poor source from which to look for emissions
reduction.
Antique and classic vehicles are overwhelmingly well-maintained and
infrequently driven (about one-third the miles each year as a new vehicle).
Legislators and regulators are feeling the heat from a failed effort to meet
air quality goals and are looking for a convenient scapegoat. The old car
hobby should not carry the burden of their mistakes!
Please contact your state senators to oppose S.B. 708. To find out who your
state senators are, contact the California Senate general information line
at 916/445-4311 or you can access this information via the Hagerty
Protection Network website, "Advocacy Avenue" section at http://www
.hagerty.com/advocacy/adv_sections.asp?z=contact or by emailing or calling
Sydney McManus, Hagerty Protection Network Legislative Director, at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] or 800-922-4050, x8787. Please email a copy of your
correspondence to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or fax a copy of your letters to SEMA
at 202/783-6024 Attn: Steve McDonald/Brian Caudill.

Thank you for keeping the hobby strong!

Sincerely,
McKeel Hagerty

[Chevelle-List] Help with 66 tailpipe hangers.

2003-03-01 Thread Robert Shaffer
Thanks to everyone that Gave me advice on getting the stock ex. man. in. I
unbolted the motor mount today on the driver side, lifted the motor up about
an inch or so and the manifold slipped right in. It was pretty easy to do.

Now I have a question that I hope someone can help with. I installed my
Gardner Exhaust system today. My 66 was built in Oct. 65 and has the long
tailpipes. I can't seem to figure out how the tailpipe hangers are supposed
to fit. Neither the assembly manual nor the chassis service manual are any
help. Does someone have a close-up photo they could send me or a link on
their web site? Thanks.

You might have to loosen a motor mount and jack up one side of the

I need some advice on installing the exhaust manifold on my 396.
It's a 1966 Chevelle. I removed the headers to put the stock manifolds
back on. The motor is in the car. The passenger side went in no problem.
The driver side does not want to fit. I tried from the top and the bottom
and the steering arm gets in the way no matter what I try. Is there a trick
to putting it in? Do I need to remove the steering arm? If so, how
difficult is that? Thanks for any advice.

Okay, so it looks like I will have to lift the
motor on one side.  After I loosen the motor mount where do I place the
jack to lift it?  I've never done lifted the motor in this manner, so I
